Anywho, to be honest, if there were no Heels there would be several teams that would have a legitmate chance at the crown this year and i'd say UCLA would have stood just as much a chance as anyone.

well, really thought CMJ would pump this up(with UCLA being #1and all ), so i'll do it. Guess everyone knows my Heels beat up on Ohio state (well they won anyway) but I still cant get over the Gonzagna loss, the first game in a long time I had to pull for the other team. I knew in the first 5 minutes that the heels were going to try and play like an NBA team (in which they do spell team with an i ) so a loss they deserve and should have gotten, would have been better had the Zags blew them out. The freshman needed a lesson on how REAL basketball is played and better now than in march. And people are to hyped up aboout Oden finally playing for Ohio st. Had he played last night, Hansborogh, would had gotten the best of him as he did in high school and the only thing that kept Ohio st in it were the three's so...Oden no factor either way.And yet again the Acc proves why they are and always will be the premiere conference.

We've had 2 number 1's go down already, if you count tOSU(who was only #1 in one poll). I wonder if UCLA will be top ranked in both now. It doesn't get much easier for the Bruins. First the Hawaii tourney, now top 10 Texas A&M next Saturday.

well. Knight passed The all time, greatest coach (rise as you read his name) DEAN SMITH. Really bites, hope most of the people that really know zilch about College basketball Understands it took Knight 41 years to get where he is and (rise as you read his name)DEAN SMITH only 36 . Like Knight himself has said, he doesn't really care about the record in terms of his own legacy, it's more a testament to the players he's had over the years than anything. So, in that respect, I really don't care about this record either. Knight will likely get surpassed in the future by Mike Krzyzewski anyway.
I'm no fan of Bobby Knight. I think he's a jackass that has gotten away with far too many things over the years because of his on-court success. However, I'm not going to deny that he's a damn good basketball coach. Best ever? No. Top 5? Probably.

Well I figure they could have 8 losses when they are done with regular season. Of course that would give them 23 wins and they would defintely be in the NCAA tourney which is all I care about. Don't think they would go that far there though.

Here's a question. Say N.C. State plays in the ACC championship (and plays well), they are 16-14 right now. If they got to the championship, they'd be 17-14,and 17-15 if they loss (if they won they'd get the automatic bid), with a conference record at 5-11 with a RPI inside the top 100. Do they think that is enough to get them to make the top 65?

Mar 12th, 2007, 11:53:19 AM
Yeah... someone sure has been drinking the ACC kool-aide.
I haven't filled out brackets yet, but I have a few lingering thoughts on the tournament...
... I'm thinking a #1 seed could fall in the second round this year. Based on the potential matchups, I think it's possible for Kansas to get pushed by Villanova, and North Carolina needs to watch out for the Marquette/Michigan State winner. I could see Florida having some issues with Purdue's tenacity on defense should they beat Arizona in the first round, but not enough to derail them. Ohio State has the easiest road to the Sweet 16 out of the #1 seeds.
... everyone seems to be on the Winthrop bandwagon as being this year's potential George Mason. They're good, and they have a shot, but they're opening round game against Notre Dame will not be easy, and they could easily get bombed by Oregon in the second round. If they get to the Sweet 16, they can beat Wisconsin, then we'll see if they can stack up against Florida. That's a lot of ifs though.
... I think Memphis will lose to Nevada in the second round, and if not, they'll get destroyed by Texas A&M in the Sweet 16. They got fat on an easy schedule, and they're going to pay for it in the tournament.
... I think Oral Roberts can beat Washington State.
... there will be less upsets (by seeding #) than normal, but the upsets that do happen will be huge. (Ala a #1 losing the second round, a #14 beating a #3, etc).
... I will probably be completely wrong about all of this, because I haven't won a tournament pool in about 8 years.

I picked a bracket based on the mascot of the school. Whether it was original or not and which would win in a fight. My final four wound up being:
UNC Tar Heels v. Texas A&M Aggies
Maryland Terrapins v. Southern Illinois Salukis.
A Saluki is an Egyptian guard dog for those of you that don't know.
I did have North Texas upset Memphis, but the Mean Green (I picture some sort of green goat thing for some reason), lose to the Aggies because frankly, I have no clue what an Aggie is.

This has been probably the most vanilla tournament I can remember in terms of lack of first round upsets. Only 5 lower seeds won their games... three 9s (which aren't really upsets) and two 11s, neither of which were really big surprises (Winthrop over Notre Dame, VCU over Duke). My guess is, we'll see some fairly big upsets today and tomorrow. I'm still thinking that a #1 seed could go down in the 2nd round. Xavier is playing Ohio State very tough right now, Kentucky is at least capable of playing with Kansas, as is Michigan State with North Carolina. Either of the 11-seeds could win their games as well.

That Mississippi State/WVU ending was unreal. And if the AFA had been able to somehow get a steal at the end, it mighta topped it. They were down about 7 with 30 seconds to go weren't they?

I believe so, Clemson had a 4 Point lead with 4 seconds to go. That would have been unbelievable if Air force had won after that.

AF had alot of breaks go against them too. I can' remember how many of their shots seemed to rim out, while Clemson got alot of friendly rolls. Neither squad could shoot FT worth a lick tho.

I know that is why it didn't hurt Clemson because AF couldn't hit them either. AF did have some bad breaks and Clemson shot great from the 3PT Line.

I think WVU is more fundamentally sound than Clemson, but yall have better athletes. The NIT committe sure picked the right #1 seeds. Not much seperated the 4.

I think it will be a good game. We will see what happens.

West Virginia dominated play, but Clemson made a last minute charge to lose by 5. If they started that run at the 4 minutes mark, you mighta stolen this one.

I didnt' realze that. The best season I could remember was back in the 80's when they made it to the sweet 16.

Didn't yall make the Sweet 16 in 1990? Connecticut won on that buzzer beater(and then Duke returned the favor in the Elite Eight).

First off.....it was West Virginia, not Pittsburgh.
Secondly the NIT Champion typically is arguably better than half the NCAA field. Hell West Virginia beat UCLA this year, not exactly a slouch school. It's still a big deal.
Last year South Carolina(the NIT champ) SWEPT Florida. I'd rather win the NIT than be one and done in the NCAA tournament. Hell unless you're gonna make the Sweet 16 give me the NIT Championship.
Getting into the NCAA's > Getting into NIT or winning in rounds 1 or 2
Making NIT Final Four in NY > than getting to "the Dance" and losing 1st round
Winning 1st Round NCAA's > Making it to NY in the NIT or making NIT Finals
Winning NIT > Winning 1st round NCAA's
Making Sweet 16 or further > than anything NIT
All in my humble opinion. But to add onto my point, the latest Sagarin computer rankings now have West Virginia at #18 in the country.

Yeah, I thought it was 1989 for some reason. I remember that last second shot by Burrell. That was pretty heartbreaking.
