Changed in the nick of time.

Wow, what a comeback for the Chiefs after last week's miserable performance. They are now 14-0 against the Chargers.

Jets gives the Lions a beating it seems, 14-0.

And the Patriots are 14-3 against the Bills, no surprise there.

Tannis V'larr

The Steelers are doing what they did against the Bengals -- they're dominating on both offense and defense and making dumb mistakes on special teams. They spotted the Falcons fourteen points on a pair of fumbles and then allowed them to ride the momentum of an onside kick recovery and punch it in for the go-ahead TD. Apparently Pittsburgh didn't do a good enough job of addressing the mistakes, namely, fumbles, in their game against KC.

That extra go-ahead score before the half is a welcome lift, but nothing's going to help if they can't keep the ball off the ground.

Jedieb

I was just about to compare this game with their Bengals loss. The Steelers had control of that game against the Bengals. If they don't fumble that punt return they probably would have won that game. The Falcons turned that botched snap into a TD, an onside kick, and another TD. They bounced back to get this TD before the half, but they've turned this game into an unnecessary shootout. A foolish celebration penalty and 58 seconds give the Falcons a chance to tie this before the half. Yep, now they've got a 51 yard return. This game is probably going to be tied at halftime.

Tannis V'larr
Oct 22nd, 2006, 12:39:58 PM
James Farrior pulls the special teams out of the fire with that interception. Think the Steelers can kneel out the half without messing up? :p

Meanwhile, Houston leads Jacksonville 10-0 in the 3rd, though the Texans just committed defensive pass interference in the endzone, setting the Jags up at the 1. The Dolphins are up on the Packers 10-6, and the Jets still seem to be in control of the Lions 21-7.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 12:40:27 PM
Wow, Warrick Dunn plays paddycake with a pass from Vick and the Steelers get the ball back. I don't care if Vick did throw that pass a little too hard, he should have caught it. I'm surprised the Steelers are sitting on the ball, but I think Cowher wants to avoid anymore mistakes and get into the locker room with the lead.

Tannis V'larr
Oct 22nd, 2006, 12:46:27 PM
Hey, the Steelers are obviously doing better in this game because they've had to go a lot farther than the Falcons did to get their touchdowns! ;)

Yog

The Bucs are in the process of a major upset. McNabb got picked for the umtillion'th time.

sirdizzy
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:08:09 PM
i took the cheifs because I understand the AFC West, home team rules in the AFC West. You are going to be right 3 out of 4 times by just taking the home team (the exception this year is the raiders home games).

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:22:30 PM
The Steelers couldn't have had a worse series. Big Ben got knocked silly and is probably out of the game. After a cheap holding call gave them a first down Parker gets the ball stripped and the Falcons turn another turnover into a TD. The Falcons have the lead again and the Steelers are going to have to rely on Batch to bring them back. Stupid challenge by Cowher on that TD. I doubt it'll get turnover but you never know.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:26:51 PM
LT just scored a TD and the Chargers are only down 7 with plenty of time left. The upset in KC is still up in the air.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:27:05 PM
About the Chief's - Chargers game, its not over yet. They are still within striking range..

Can someone tell me what the heck is wrong with the Jaguars? They make Houston Texans look good.

Edit: Eagles said "holy crap, if we keep this up, we might actually lose! We better sharpen up our play!", and now they are only 3 points behind the bucs.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:31:50 PM
Tune into Sportscenter tonight and you'll see Wards TD catch. What a run after the catch and a spectacular dive to get the ball past the goalline. The Steelers are back in the lead in a wild game in Atlanta.

Tannis V'larr
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:31:52 PM
Charlie Batch pulls off another huge pass -- 70 yards to Hines Ward for the lead! This game is unbelieveable!

Agh, if only for the turnovers... Come on guys, play some defense and hold onto the ball!

Heh, great quote from Steelers broadcaster Tunch Ilkin: "As fast as Deangelo Hall is, he cannot bring Hines Ward down with one shoe."

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:34:14 PM
What a drama in the Steelers - Falcons game!

Oh, and Bengals finally turning around their game it seems. I was wondering when they would release the clutch.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:37:11 PM
The Chargers start a drive at their own 15 with 10 minutes to go. LT just ripped off a big run on first down and they're already at the 33. Big drive here for both teams, the Chargers have scored on 4 of their last 5 drives.

Jedieb

TD to Crumpler, 4th TD pass for Vick. Game of the week.
Pittsburgh 31
Atlanta 35

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:43:09 PM
When was the last time you saw a TE score 3 TD's in a game. I sure can't remember. And when was the last time you saw Vick pass for 4TD? I can't remember that either.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:51:33 PM
Vick's NEVER passed for 4 TD's in a pro game. The Chargers just forced a fumble inside the Chiefs 25.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:53:02 PM
Wow, the Chiefs just got nailed for a pass interfence call in the endzone. LT time.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 01:57:26 PM
Haha, LT stunt time. He PASSED for a TD. Flashback to last year when he did the triple.

Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:03:16 PM
wow. like 35 secs left, Eagles scored TD and extra point, putting them ahead, 21-20. 4 secs left, Bryant scores a 61-yard FG for a Bucs win, 23-21.

Jedieb

Chargers force a KC punt. They've got the ball at their 21 with 1:48 to go.

OMG, I had no idea they'd lost the lead! Wow, but it's probably too late for the Bucs to save their season. They may have found their next QB though. I don't think Simms will be back next year.

Rivers just hit Parker for a big first down, they've got the ball at their 41.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:10:18 PM
I reiterate: Before that, he had not even made a FG beyond 28 yards. Then he goes and make a 62 yarder. It would have gone in at 64 yards too. That got to be a record.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:11:40 PM
Big completion by Batch gets the Steelers to the 16. If he hadn't of underthrown it a bit it might have been a TD. Steelers down by 7, TD TO WARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why, oh WHY, ye network contract gods, did CBS choose to waste their single-game coverage on the Browns and Broncos instead of the Steelers?????

Come on, guys, you can hold on for a little longer!

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:14:49 PM
wow, the Chargers were forced to punt and now the Chiefs are driving for a game winning FG. There's 11 ticks on the clock and Marty may have found another way to lose a winnable game. Here comes the FG attempt....

The record is 63, held by Dempsey and Elam.

Wow, that was close.

And whats even more comedy gold, the announcer said "all you have to do is sit back and watch him miss it." Right before the kick. :lol

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:17:36 PM
OMG, the Chiefs make the kick but they had a false start so now the kick is going to be a 53 yarder. Wow, what a finish. Here comes the second attempt.... he nailed it again! Way to go Marty. It's not really your fault, but you'll get the blame anyway.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:23:15 PM
Whats up with all these long FG's in the last second of the game? Damn, tough luck for me about the Chiefs game.

Actually, reviewing the 62 yarder, it seems like Bryant could have been another 5-10 yards back and still nailed it. Incredible.

The Falcons just had a 56 game winner taken off the board when the Steelers called a TO just before the kick. Holy crap, what a day for game winning FG's. This is unbelievable. Here comes attempt #2.

Tannis V'larr
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:27:00 PM
Bogus running-into-the-kicker call. Mike Koenen takes acting lessons from Joe Nedney, I see.

Morton Anderson tries it this time, and it's short! The 46-year-old kicker doesn't have the leg!

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:27:18 PM
He misses the kick but the Steelers roughed the kicker!!!!! You've got to be kidding me!!!!!!! Running into the kicker, here comes attempt #3, this time from 51. BTW, it was the punter attempting the kick because Anderson's 46 year old legs can't possibly reach that distance. Cowher call another TO, the third attempt is coming and Anderson is coming on the field! Can he even reach the endzone from here!

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:28:20 PM
He was short by a couple of yards. I can't believe they brought Anderson out for that kick. Ball outside the 40, around 30 seconds to get the ball in FG without TO's.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:28:47 PM
LOL, this game is hilarious.

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 02:30:39 PM
The Steelers got the completion they needed to try a 50 yarder but they blew it with a false start and 10 second run off. Here comes overtime.

Yog

While drama unfolds, here is another bizarre event of the day. 414 yards passing for Harrington, on 62 attempts.

To be fair though, only the Pope could have saved the game for Steelers after that pass to Crumpler.

Yog

The 4 PM games are well under way! Stay tuned for more action!

Here is a shocker! Raiders learned to score! 14-0 o_O

Edit: What an anticlimax to the games earlier. Not much going on

Jedieb
Oct 22nd, 2006, 03:09:18 PM
Holy cow, the Cards are down 17-0 to the lowly Raiders. If the Cardinals lose this game Denny Green can definitely kiss his job goodbye.

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 03:12:56 PM
Yeah, and Leinart seems to have a hard time out there :(

Did you see that 72 yarder to Darrel Jackson. Nice.

But ugh, Vikings equalizing with a 40 yard TD. Seahawks better not lose this one. I picked them in survivor...

Yog
Oct 22nd, 2006, 03:23:24 PM
Clinton Portis displayed a moment of brilliance, then went down. He suffered a "jinglebell" if you catch my meaning..

Broncos shutting down Browns so far, 10-0. No surprise. I dont think they have a chance really. But who knows on this bizarre day. And Colts leading 10-7. Its close so far, but I can't imagine them messing this game up.

Edit: damn it, redskins scores again! I don't know how many upsets I can handle today.

Edit 2: kickoff from the 5 yard line, LOL!

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 22nd, 2006, 03:47:04 PM
The first half games were incredible. That Atlanta-Pittsburgh game was a classic. I was glad the Chiefs hit that FG, at 3-3 they can still do something. Can anybody believe the Redskins are beating the colts right now?

Ryan Pode
Oct 22nd, 2006, 03:48:06 PM
Question: Who has worse pass defense, the Falcons for giving up over 400 yards to the Steelers or the Steelers who let Michael Vick throw a career high 4 TD passes?

I thought the injury to Portis while, painful, was hilarious. Especially with the announcers trying to talk about it. As for Leinart, after two great games (one against a great Bears D), he's gotta look like a rookie.

Nope. But strangers things have happened.

Yeah, if you told me this game was going to be a shootout, I would have thought you were crazy. I thought this would be a game of defense.

Edit: Colts scored another TD. The balance is restored in the universe. Allmost.

Edit 2: nooooo! I should not said that. Leinart intercepted for a TD, and Vikings in the lead. This can't get worse.

What is bad for Seattle is Hasselback got hurt and he proably won't be back. Many Seattle is going through some injury issues. Although even with everything they still will win that crummy divison.

Yog

And Colts score again. At least there is some sanity left. I think that game is pretty much over, realistically.

Cleveland ruins Broncos defensive streak a bit with a TD. SirDizzy must be frowning over that one..

Ok I am mad at Plummer, we could have gone 6 games giving up only 1 td but he throws that idiotic INT in the 4th quarter.

SO gearing up for next weeks game when indy comes into town. Denver is the first team since 1934 to give up only 1 td in 5 games. They are the first team since 1934 to win 5 straight games scoring 17 or less points.

Next week should be fun, the Denver O was clicking in the first half when Shanahan took some of the handcuffs off but then he reshackled them back up in the 2nd half as he nursed that lead. Colts better not be expecting to put up 36 points next week we aren't the redskins.

Great games this weekend, I was gone all day and had the Pats game on DVR and finally watched it so now I'm checking all the other scores.

Some incredible upsets, all the top teams from even a few weeks ago are losing, right now IMO top 4 teams are in Bears, Colts, Bronco's and Pats(in order).

Colts vs Bronco's will be a great game, I wouldn't be suprised if the Colts put up some big numbers, fluky things happen, heck the Raiders won today.

What impressed me about the Colts offense today was the way they ran the ball. Their rookie RB finally had a breakout game. They may finally be getting some balance back. Denver is probably the smart pick because the game is at Mile High. If it were in Indy I wouldn't even consider picking the Broncos. But I think the Broncos can take them at home. It all depends on Plummer. He's got to finally break out and have a big game. 17 points probably won't be enough.

The Colts offense is finally playing like it did last year. I think they can win that game. Oh anybody hear about Merriman getting suspsended for steroids?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2635475
That hurts the Chargers even more. Also is Hasselback going to be out for the KC game? Or is to be determined? I think if he can't play, the Chiefs will rough them up.

if their defense plays as good as they have been, 17 points will be more than enough

But I think the case will be that Shanahan will have to un-handcuff the offense, I mean they were playong fantastic today stomped to that 17-0 lead and everything went conservative and predictable after that. Shanahan has been nursing leads with a very tame offensive scheme but he won't be able to that against the colts even if he gets that 17-0 lead because you have to fear the colts offense and he can't just play not to lose if he stakes an early lead.

So Merriman gets dinged for 'roids. Surprise surprise.

Let me spare you the boredom of his press conference later, where he will undoubtedly deny that he's done anything wrong.

"I'm here today to address the allegations that have been made against me for the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs. I want to take this time to clear the air and let my team and my fans know that I have never taken any illegal supplements...to my knowledge. I don't know how the tests came out positive. Come to think of it, Miguel Tejada said he was giving me a B-12 shot...maybe it was something else in there instead."

:rolleyes

Another guy who was trumpeted as a brave 'rags to riches' story, a guy who defied all the odds, the classic tale of a guy who had no reason to ever amount to anything, but ended up on top.

Oops!!

Boy am I feeling cynical today.

He is just hurting himself with it. He was looked at a great future pass rusher but now he has clouded that future.
On to other news, Matt Hasselback is out 2-4 weeks. I think Seattle is in a lot of trouble now. They play KC, Oakland and St. Louis in that stretch. Oakland they can beat but they could easily lose the other two games. Seneca Wallace is going to have a lot of trouble in noisy Arrowhead.

The Giants sack celebration has to be the worst celebration I've ever seen in Pro-Sports, they look like total idiots when they are doing it.

This Dallas O-Line is horrible

What an awful way to start a second half for a young QB. Comes into cheers and then throws an INT, first pass. Romo isn't going to be very popular for a while.

The problem is the line, not Bledsoe. Yeah the one bad throw was bad but the rest wasn't his fault. Very risky move by Parcells.

Game over, 3 INT's by Romo. Bledsoe is not the problem. The offensive line is horrible and TO is TO.

I have to admit, Merriman's lawyer is pretty compelling. He makes the best 'he was suckered by tainted supplements' case yet. Still, I don't quite believe it. I've heard it way too many times now. The same thing over and over. Nice try, but I still believe that 90% of the NFL is taking something that they aren't supposed to.

And whats even more comedy gold, the announcer said "all you have to do is sit back and watch him miss it." Right before the kick.

Huh. I must of missed that. But I did love the expression on McNabbs face right after the FG.
