This week should be easier to predict, probably the hardest games will be Giants-Atl, Philly at NO, Seattle at St. Louis and KC at Pittsburgh. Atlanta, Philly, Seattle, and Pittsburgh should all win those games, but they could be close. I personally don't think St. Louis is that good so I think Seattle will win that one. I am torn by the Kc-Pitt game. I want to pick KC and do think the game will be close but think Pittsburgh will come out deterimened to win that one.

That game in Denver is going to be a mauling. Shanahan has owned the Raiders as he will probably hold that grudge tell the day he dies. The raiders are the most pitiful team in the last few years I have seen and Denver is going to want to get their offense back on track.

Since being in the Superbowl in 2003, they have fallen COMPLETELY out of relevance. I can't think of a team in any sport that crumbled to obscurity after being so close to the top.

Ambrose, you missed SEA at STL.
Sunday Early
BUF @ DET WIN - Another mediocre AFC East/NFC North matchup.
CAR @ BALT WIN - Much as I WANT the Ravens to lose again, I don't think the Panthers have it in them.
CIN WIN @ TB - Similar to the above.
HOU @ DAL WIN - Ah... pleasant memories of the Cowboys being embarrassed in the Texans' franchise premiere...
GIANTS @ ATL WIN - Tough for me to call, but Atlanta's defense wins it.
PHI WIN @ NO - As much heart as the Saints are showing, I have to think this is Philly's game to lose.
SEA WIN @ STL - Seattle, please don't embarrass me again like you did against the Bears.
TENN WIN @ WASH - Needed to pick an upset, and, hey, the Titans came close to one last week.
Sunday Late
KC @ PITT WIN - Come ON for goodness' sake!!!
MIA @ JETS WIN - Could you guys PLEASE stop making it so easy for the Patriots?
SD WIN @ SF - Er... yeah. SD wins.
Sunday Night
OAK @ DEN WIN - National TV Laugher #1
Monday Night
CHI WIN @ ARZ - National TV Laugher #2

I know its embarassing. The only team that comes close is the Bulls after Jordan retired. They fell off there for almost 10 years.

I still think the bills are somewhat of a joke, they made a strong run a few years back to fall just shy of the post season and then they played like that was a complete fluke
they have enough talent, they should be at least contending
JMK
Oct 13th, 2006, 08:14:50 AM
No way - the Bills are a tougher team than they're given credit for, this year anyway. Last year was awful, as were the previous years, but they've never been embarassing doormats the way the Raiders are this year. You can almost guarantee yourself a win if the Raiders appear on your schedule...not so with the Bills.

I almost picked KC, but when I heard the line was Steelers by 7, I decided to pick them. I don't always go by lines, but that one convinced me this time. Plus, they do say this is the do or die game for the Steelers, so I figure they'll be pumped up, at least to a certain degree. Although personally I think it's totally a given that they won't be repeating as Super Bowl champs.

Well you can cross off #3 because Pittsburgh played SD last sunday night:p Hey Pittsburgh may win. They need the win right now more than KC does at the moment. I am only taking the Chiefs because I am biased and the Steelers seem to have been having a lot of bad luck. If those 3 starters weren't out I probably would have took Pittsburgh.

Games are starting now. Some thoughts about this week's matchups:
Buffalo at Detroit - home team win I suppose
Carolina at Baltimore - defense wins the day
Cincinnati at Tampa Bay - Bengals will rip them apart
Houston at Dallas - Texas Chain Saw Masacre
N.Y. Giants at Atlanta - gotta go with Falcons at home
Philadelphia at New Orleans - Eagles look good
Seattle at St. Louis - close call
Tennessee at Washington - I won't waste my time watching this game..
Kansas City at Pittsburgh - hard to say, but you gotta think Steelers starts winning
Miami at N.Y. Jets - Dolphins are a disaster, as usual
San Diego at San Francisco - as is the 49'ers. This gonna be ugly
Oakland at Denver - and this is going to be even more ugly. This years Raiders one of the worst ever
Chicago at Arizona - rookie QB against the team that steamrolls every team in NFL

NO up 10-0 over PHI!
And, surprisingly, the Bengals offense is looking more like the Bungles so far against the Buccaneers. Unfortunately, the Buccaneers offense is looking more like... well, the Buccaneers. Barring something really surprising, the Bengals will break it out at some point.
We got home from church with most of the games close to the end of the 1st quarter and found Kyle Boller at QB for the Ravens. Apparently Steve McNair took a sack and was pulled. Anyone have any report on how McNair's doing?

Titans go ahead of the Redskins 20-14 on a drive that includes a 23-yard pass on a 4th and 2 attempt.
The Boller-led Ravens find themselves down 13-7 against the Panthers. I just heard that McNair's injury is listed as a concussion and neck sprain. Much as this may make things easier for the Steelers, I sure hope he's okay. :(
The Buccaneers offense is finally challenging the Bengals, led by an explosive Cadillac Williams. If their own defense holds up, they may be able to victicmize a porous Cincinnati run defense to pull off the upset.
Edit: Titans add a safety!

whew I pulled steve mcnair in favor of Jake Plummer this week in the wookie fantasy league, its only the second time I have started Plummer (the first was that horrendous week 1) and what a decision that has turned out to be. I didn't do it because I thought mcnair might have a bad day, I did it because of the oakland defense and jake is going to have a monster day.
But look at Steve's line for the game 2-4 for 4 yards and a INT, thats a nice negative point day had I started him

Wow, things are getting crazy! Kyle Boller got credit for a touchdown pass that was batted at the line of scrimmage and somehow wobbled into the hands of Mark Clayton, who took it for the distance. And now Jake Delhomme has responded with a 72-yard TD strike to Steve Smith!
The Saints looked like they'd blown up by throwing an interception inside their own 20, leading to an Eagles TD, but now Drew Brees has thrown a 49-yard TD pass to tie it!
The Redskins tie it against the Titans with a touchdown and 2PC!
And the Texans are -- no, wait, the Texans are just losing horribly. Never mind.

I haven't been home :p The game isn't on in my area so I have no idea what happened. I am thinking Pittsburgh just came out and was desperate. I think they wanted the game a hell of a lot more than the Chiefs. Actually, the defense for KC has a looked a lot better in the first 4 games then it has in previous seasons. I am guessing the defense just didn't get on the bus for this game.
Tannis V'larr
Oct 15th, 2006, 04:39:23 PM
Well, we're looking at a very good gameplan that worked this time, on both sides of the football. We're looking at a more confident and competent Ben, and a rushing offense that has once more found its stride (remember they gashed the Bengals very efficiently). We're looking at an amped defense that is stepping up to make the kind of plays we saw in the playoffs last year.
The Steelers haven't been perfect, definitely. The fumbles are a huge concern. And the defense was way too soft on KC's touchdown drive. But it looks to me like the doomsayers have spoken far too quickly about Bill Cowher's Steelers.
In other words, there is a lot of season left, and things could still go either way, but the rumors of the Steelers' demise have been greatly exaggerrated.

Kansas City has been exposed, yes. But by a team that's really on fire. The Steelers overcame a three-game skid last year, if you'll remember.
Are they playoff material? I'll have to reserve that judgment until they take down a proven playoff-calliber opponent. See, that's my whole point: it's too early in the season to make a blanket judgment about them. But I'm greatly encouraged by this performance. This is exactly what the Steelers needed.

I wouldn't go that far. They tackled the previous 4 teams just fine. They had a bad game that is all. Their defense is better than the last few years. Of course with the problems with the offense, if they get Green back, the best they could do is 10-6. Although, it is more likely they will finish between 7-9 and 9-7.

Ton of upsets this weeks. If I had known that Boller was going to be holding anything except a clipboard I never would have gone with the Ravens. 3 TD's but 2 of them were on tipped balls that should have been INT's or incompletions. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good and the one thing we know Boller AIN'T is good. Holy crap the Bills suck. Doubt I'll be looking their way much this year.

i had a bad week, no excuses on fantasy because i had only major bye and that at TE and kellen winslow wouldn't make up the 36 points i needed. Its going to be closer than it looks as boldin is worth 16 points so far but I am still going to lose and the only major change I could have done was rivers for manning and that was only 10 points
but man how the hell are the cardinals winning that game, I am stunned

I know I can't believe the Cardinals are winning like that. I guess the 72 Dolphins can celebrate. The only 0 now that has a chance is 0-16, and the Raiders are so bad they could do it.

Oct 16th, 2006, 08:49:30 PM
The Bears look stunned. I really think they should have established the run in that second quarter instead of continuing to drop Grossman back again and again. Now, thanks to a boneheaded roughing the kicker penalty, the Cardinals are eating up the clock. The Bears are going to get one dimensional pretty quick. And that was a HORRIBLE call on first and goal. Especially when you consider Thomas Jones is one of my fantasy backs!

Oct 16th, 2006, 09:04:49 PM
That's the play the Bears have been waiting for. It'll be interesting to see how Leinart and the Cardinals respond here. That Bears defense is pumped now and they're coming right back on the field after that defensive TD looking for a 3 and out or another big play. Are the Cardinals going to get conservative and start handing it off to Edge for 2 yard gains and some 3 and outs or will they drop Leinart back and see what happens?

This is unbelievable. The Bears have just scored their SECOND defensive TD right after Grossman tossed his 4th INT which looked like it could seal the game for Arizona. kornheiser is pretty much right on the money, if the Cards blow this one they might as well shut up for the rest of the season.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crack
This is AMAZING! How the hell could Arizona have blown this game?! Still plenty of time left and a FG can win this game for the Cardinals, but Chicago has them by the testicles right now.

82-yard punt return to take the lead! This is unbelievable! Rex Grossman has accounted for 6 turnovers and only 3 offensive points, and now the D and special teams have put them in the lead!

This defensive outburst by the Bears might be enough to get me the win in our league! :D

They're not that far out of FG range. That first down just got them in FG range. Now the Bears may have to start using their last 2 timeouts. Big catch by Boldin and the Bears are surprisingly holding on to their TO's. I'm surprised.

This 3rd down is the game. If the Bears hold the Cards should be able to make this FG. But then again, they should have been able to hold this lead.

And Edge runs into a wall. James has run 36 times for only 56 yards. A 1.6 avg, I hope the money keeps him warm at night. And Rackers predictably misses the FG. Holy crap, this franchise is a collasal joke.

This is the second straight week they take a big first half lead and fall apart in the 4 quarter. The only good news for the Franchise is Leinhart, although I don't think Denny Green will be around much longer.

Leinart looks great for a rookie. But you don't have to look any further than the Cards pathetic offensive line for why they couldn't put this game away. Edge almost runs 40 times and he can't break 60 yards. That's beyond embarrasing. The Bears defense won them this game, but I wouldn't call them the best defense in the league. The most consistent defense I've seen all season long is Denver's.

I don't know I think the Bears have the best defense. The question I have is their offense. I am not convinced Grossman can win them the big game. If I was Chicago I would be wary of Carolina and New Orleans and Seattle with a healthy Alexander.

denvers D has been just as dominant, and they haven't had an offense to back them up all season
only 1 td against a D in 5 games you have to go back to 1940 to find another team that has done it

I saw part of Denny Green's press conference on ESPN News, and good grief, you've gotta feel for the guy with his frustration coming screaming out of him.

Where to start with this one?
Last night at 8:30 I decided that instead of watching what was surely going to be a laugher, I'd pop in Rocky 1 instead. 2 hours later, after watching the greatest underdog movie ever, I asked myself "wouldn't it be funny if the Cards were spanking the Bears?" Well whaddaya know? 23-3 for the Cards, midway through the 3rd quarter. I couldn't believe my eyes. Then I told myself "This is the Arizona Cardinals...they'll blow this".
What unfolded over the next 1.5 quarters of football will last a lifetime, at least for me. Hearing Kornheiser's comments about how they should just close up the dome and fold the team if they lose this game was pretty much spot on with what was going through my head. But I think Kornheiser said it for effect because I don't think anyone watching that game thought that the Bears' offense was going to put it together in time to pull this one out. Well, the offense didn't have to do squat. The Cardinals fumbled and bumbled the game away...once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Only the Cardinals could be this much of a sad-sack franchise. I don't think the Raiders are capable of that sort of meltdown. I suppose that's the best way to put it. And to choke...YES YES, a thousand times YES, Rackers choked on a very makeable 40 yarder to win the game. Leinart did everything he was supposed to do. I feel badly for him today. I have to admit, when it was 4th and about a yard, I was hoping they'd go for it and continue to work the clock, THEN kick a FG to win. But like Jedieb said, their line was SO EMBARASSINGLY bad at getting room for Edge that there was very little chance of gaining that extra yard. I guess they had no choice but to kick the FG. Like I said, it was only 40 yards. That's pretty much a lock these days unless mother nature intervenes...which it didn't in that dome.
I was pretty much stunned once the game was over. How could a team, even one with a history like the Cardinals blow such a big lead? How could they do this, even though they created SIX turnovers, and gave up exactly 3 points to the other team's offense? I wonder what the mathematical probability was for the Bears scoring 3 unanswered TDs from defense or special teams. I'm sure it's way out there. It was a truly mind-numbing loss, even for the Cardinals. I hate to say it, but I think Dennis Green got himself fired for this one. I don't know how much blame is his, afterall, it wasn't exactly bad play calling. It was a fumble from a guy who NEVER fumbles. It was a shanked kick from a guy who's automatic. It was a good game plan to knock off what was at the time, the NFL's best. It almost worked, but if you can't manage a game in which you have a 20 point lead for 20 minutes, you don't deserve to be a head coach.

I truly feel bad for Denny Green. Defensively, the play calling was a masterpiece. Even offensively, the play calling was fairly good considering they were missing a top playmaker, starting a rookie QB and their offensive line is offensive to watch. Green may get fired at the end of the season, but he'll get another job fairly quickly. And whoever inherits the job will fix the offensive line and suddenly have a very good team.

Green's press conference was pretty sad. I felt bad for him, but at the same time I was laughing. He went from calm and disappointed, to agitated, then to the point where I thought he was going to turn green, double in height and destroy the place.
I bet he got very little sleep last night.
What does he do today, or what does he say today to his team? They played a pretty good game. There were 3 plays which ruined them. The fumble is on Edge. The kick is on Rackers. The TD return is on the punting team. Not exactly reasons to bring the house down, but clearly something has to be done.
