Matt Damon as Kirk?

Anyone got anything else on this?

I heard the same rumor, but who knows if its true or not? Its only a casting rumor.
I'm not too sure about the whole "prequel" idea with Star Fleet Academy and Kirk and Spock as young'uns. :\ It sounds like a gimmick to me.

Sounds pathetic if you ask me.
I can just imagine the execs at the table, trying yet again to find ways to milk money from the franchise when someone came up with that turd of an idea.
"Let's see...We're all out of new and relevant ideas...We didn't even watch Enterprise...Kirk & his crew are really the only enduring characters...let's do them again, only we'll make them younger and more X-TREME!!! Kirk can be like Jay, and Spock can be like Silent Bob!!! How can this fail!?! I submit that it can NOT!
PERFECT.

Its an old,old rumor and from what I hear they aren't even sure any more if it will be a prequel.

Well, there don't seem to be any new rumors about the project, so I suppose they're sticking with the last they heard over at IMDB.

The last I'd heard on the movie was that JJ Abrams of Alias and Lost fame has been tapped to direct Star Trek 11. This is confirmed, because there was an interview in TV Guide with JJ earlier this month in the middle of the 40th anniversary article. Apparently they're still saying that it's going to be a Kirk/Spock/McCoy at Starfleet Academy prequel. I think that idea sucks, personally. Having JJ Abrams involved is great, but they need a better idea. A MUCH better idea. And nothing against Matt Damon, but him as the young Kirk? Argh, gimme a break.

I love Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci... can't say I'm excited about "acadamy trek." They'll muck up something somewhere...

Well also consider that anybody can submit names to IMDB. That place isn't reliable for future projects. Also, I thought I read somewhere that the prequel part isn't confirmed.

I saw a fan-done picture of Affleck and Damon as Spock and Kirk; not too shabby of a PS and actually looked pretty darn good. Doesn't mean that I think it would work, I'm just saying it was a good visual match.

I was annoyed with how Voyager ended. Very Deus Ex Machina and a kick in the teeth for the fans who'd followed Janeway and her crew all the way through the Delta Quadrant!
They should disregard the last few episodes and make an almighty movie to relight the fire and then carry on with a series or two!
Damn, my alarm just went off. Time to WAKE UP!!! :(
If only, eh!?

Reportedly Zachary Quinto (Sylar, Heroes)is in final negotiations to play Spock in this Star Trek prequel.
He looks really good in this fan mock-up.

Syler? As Spock?!?! While he'd be a great fit visually... seeing Syler as ... not evil is hard.

I'm of such mixed emotions about this project. I desperately want it to work and bring Trek back on a strong note, but I'm also horribly afraid that Abrams and his writing team will screw it up by putting in too much superfluous distraction, ala Alias and Lost. As much as such things worked on those TV shows, it won't fly in Star Trek, especially in a Kirk/Spock era storyline.

Visually, Damon would do quite well as a young Kirk. I don't know about anything beyond that.

I just had to resurrect this thread today after hearing the latest casting news for the new Trek movie. One of the choices just about has me rolling on the floor with laughter, just because I think it's just an unexpectedly hilarious choice. :lol
So, for Sulu, this is who has been cast (the guy on the right, of course):

So Harold is not going to White Castle this time, he's going to outer space. Say hello to John Cho. :D
Now, for the pivotal role of Montgomery Scott, the role goes to....

SIMON FREAKING PEGG!!!!
Holy crap, yes, the same Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz genius is playing Scotty.
BRILLIANT!!! :D :D :D

It should also be noted that Eric Bana signed on to play the lead villian in the film, and supposedly the role of Kirk was offered to Chris Pine.
The film is scheduled to start shooting in November, so the rest of the casting should be in place soon.

I'm calling Jada Smith for Uhura. You heard it here first.

Uhura has already been cast, she's being played by Zoe Saldana.
I'd also read about Eric Bana being cast, that's an interesting choice as well.

Predictably, I don't know any of the actors they're talking about, except for Zachary Quinto...
As a long-standing Star Trek fan, I'm both excited and apprehensive, but I'm willing to let excitement win out for now. I'm one who was very disappointed in Voyager - it had such great potential, but it became entirely a formula show. And Enterprise was a formula show from day one. What I'd love is a bold re-imagination of the show, true to the heart of Star Trek but not afraid to take chances or be overly tied down to the minutiae of the canon - Star Trek II and its immediate sequels did this brilliantly, I think. I'd love for them to break away from the dull formula that's dominated the last two shows and the last two movies. Granted, once they've done that, they still have to come up with something good.
Well, we'll just have to see. :)

As much as I love Simon Pegg, I'm not sure he'll do Scotty justice. I won't pass judgement just yet - I'll let the finished product speak for itself.

So, more casting news...

It's confirmed that Chris Pine will be Kirk.
But also... Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy? I just can't see him in that role. Urban is a good actor, but this seems like a huge reach to me.

On a Star Trek board my brother frequents, someone posted this image with the caption, "I wasn't sure Chris Pine could play Kirk until I saw this."
