Dear Stupid Animal Owner,

I understand that having a pet is really, really fun. But did you know that it's also a lot of work? Let's take a look at your dog, for instance.

Yes, Sparky the Cocker Spaniel is very cute, and he really does seem like a champion but he needs to vaccinated against yucky viruses like parvo. What's parvo, you ask? Well you know how Sparky has been lethargic and not eating? Recall his vomiting and diarrhea? And that fun smell of old blood and feces coming off of him? No, no, he didn't just get into the garbage can and eat something wierd, ha ha :) you just didn't protect him from all the dangerous diseases out there!

What's that? Ah, yes, that is beuthanasia that we just stuck into his catheter. It's much more humane this way, instead of letting him die of dehydration.

Your's truly,

Disillusioned Vet Technician

:mad

I am really really really sick and tired of having to jam catheters into veins and hold animals down so the doctor can kill them so please TAKE CARE OF YOUR PETS OK???

It has been a sad day @ work.

I think even some pet shops need to be a little more responsible too. I used to work for a pace called Crab Buddies... for like a week... I was so sickened by the way they ran it that I quit.

First off, when they delivered the hermit crabs they dumped the whole box of them into the cage quickly. I'd hear shells and claws snapping the entire time and even saw a few curl up and die/crawl out of their shell to die.

Another thing that was irritating was the owner wanted us to spray the glass of the pen inside and out with Windex... The hermit crabs prolly didnt take too well to being so close to poison when being sprayed cuz every morning I'd be digging bodies out. Supposedly hermit crabs are supposed to live 10 years or so... So obviously the way the owner was telling us to do things was wrong.

But there were other reasons I quit. PETA took their aggression out on me instead of the owner about the hermit crabs not liking the fancy painted shells and that they cant breed in captivity... Stupid kids that wouldn't listen to me when I told them how to hold the crabs without getting pinched... And I got yelled at when a kid got pinched by the mall security and was told to put up a sign, as if I owned the place or something. Those contributed to me walking out.

My brother used to have hermit crabs as pets - we never could keep them alive after they shed their exoskeletons to grow bigger. >_<

They need shells that are bigger provided for them all the time even if its a size or two too big. They're a pain to keep but once you get the hang of it they are supposed to live a long time... It also depends on where you buy them. I seriously don't reccomend getting them from Crab Buddies or any type of mall kiosk. Stick to pet stores.... in fact, don't buy them in Florida period.

We had bigger shells for them, they just never seemed to survive the trauma of it all. Plus my mom accidentally threw out the shed exoskeleton because she thought it was a dead hermit crab. Apparently they have to eat their shed skins or they die. :uhoh :p

Hm. Then I dunno. O.o I only know what I read from the pamphlet given to me when I started working. Perhaps the shells didn't match with their environment and they prefered not to switch. Thats one reason why they are in shells aside from living in it, camoflague. Its been years though so I might be wrong. but I never heard of the exoskeleton thing. Yuck. >.<

I think my hermit crabs either had a battle royale to the death or they all spontaneously blew up. I just found.. pieces of them one day. O_o

I haven't much cared for them since. LOL

That happened to my hamsters when I was a kid... The guy that gave them to use neglected to mention they dont do well in the same cage together after a while. :(
