Has anyone read this series? It has a similar appeal as the Harry Potter books, but that's about as far as the similarities stretch.

Artemis Fowl is a self-proclaimed criminal mastermind; He's also 12 years old. In the first book, Artemis uncovers a hidden colony of fairies and concots a plan to restart his family's criminal empire by ransoming the fairies for their gold. Thing is, the fairies have quite a collection of high-tech gadgetry, and will go to some pretty extreme lengths to get back what's theirs.

If you want a more spoiler-y description, check out the Amazon link above. You can also read a small excerpt from the beginning by clicking on the cover.

It's not the best children's series I've read, and most of you would probably rank it below Harry Potter, but I found it entertaining enough that I'd like to check out the rest of the books.

I read them onto a tape and send them to my youngest brother. He loves them, and I'm enjoying them immensly.

Sounds like something I might enjoy. I think I'll investigate :)

I've been listening to an audio book of the first book in the series, and I'm enjoying it so far. A couple have things have made me chuckle - LepRecon, and such :)
