View Full Version : The Younglings: A Study in Patience (Rebels, s'Il)

(This thread is open to Rebel intelligence agents)

Serena Laran entered the conference room slowly and deliberately. Rhianna was right on her heels, brimming with enthusiasm, and Morgan was not too far behind though far more subdued. She'd been asked to meet with several Intelligence agents to explain about Jedi detection, and several other Force related subjects.

She knew it had to do with the Imperial program against Force sensitive children. She intended to help as much as she could, but in the end she knew that the Rebels would go their way, and she hers. After they had put her in touch with the other Jedi they had met: Daria, and her young padawan.

The Jedi took a seat, and Rhianna sat next to her. She'd been working with Morgan on learning Basic, and was making excellent progress. She understood nearly all she heard now, though speaking it was taking understandably longer. Morgan sat on the other side of Rhianna. Serena looked across the long table at the Rebels, including Agent Danell, who'd been working with the testing equipment she'd let him borrow. "Good morning," she smiled.

Rhianna

Rhianna was pleased to be able to attend another meeting with the Rebels. The last time she hadn't been able to follow much of the conversation. She had also just recovered from serious illness. Now however she had a glow about her and seemed animated in an energetic, positive way. She was catching on to the new language quicker everyday and felt confident that she would be able to learn much on her own at this meeting.

She took her seat, beside Serena and settled in. She knew that if she got stuck on her words it would be alright because she had both Serena and Morgan for backup. She had already told them both that she would speak up, just to let the rebels know that she was progressing and that she could now communicate better. So when Serena greeted the Rebels, Rhianna took the initiative and did the same, with a smile and an accent.

"Good mornin'! Hello again.."

Estelle smiled in polite greeting as Serena took her seat and responded with "good mornings" of her own.

It stirred her heart to see the Jedi seated before her. It was something she could not have even imagined given her prior belief that they had all been, almost to a one, extinguished by the Empire. But that was before she had joined the Alliance. That was before so many things.

She was very pleased to be apart of this meeting and found herself eager for it to get underway. She folded her hands neatly in front of her on the table, however, to keep a patient composure and allowed the meeting to begin at the Jedi's pleasure.

"I have asked the Jedi Loklorien s'Ilancy to join us as well," Serena added. There was a new face at the table that she didn't recognize, but deduced that this was Agent Russard, a young woman who was spoken of highly by Danell.

"I believe that she will be instrumental in helping us deal with this new crisis."

The three Rebel Agents had been in the process of looking over one of the devices that Serena had given to them when the Jedi pair arrived. Danell set the equipment aside, smiling somewhat meekly at the two women. Dasquian bid them good morning, and nodded at the mention of another Jedi joining the meeting. “Excellent. The more information we have, the better.”

Sitting quietly beside Serena, s'Il dipped her head in acknowledgement.

She only knew the basic outline of what this meeting would be about, but the Lupine was willing to listen and offer any input she could; not that it would be all that much, sadly. But, she would wait to see how things progressed.

Serena addressed Dasquian, as the senior member of the Alliance present. "Do we know where the testing is localized, at the moment?"

Dasquian Belargic

“No, I'm afraid we don't,” he sighed, shaking his head. “Given that we've had reports in from a variety of locations, it seems as if the testing is a galaxy-wide push by the Empire, with no clear nerve-center of operations.”

Agent Danell spoke up, "Our plan of attack at the moment is to begin a testing program of our own. The more children we find, the less the Empire can."

Serena nodded, "And the equipment I gave to you is helpful?"

"Oh yes, very much so," he nodded. "We have techs working on a way to replicate the technology even as we speak."

"What happens to the children you find that have force potential?"

Dasquian Belargic

“The first wave of testing has been targeted on economically undeveloped areas, in particular on children who have very little or no family. In these cases, we try to arrange for the children to be relocated to a foster home on a neutral or pro-Republic world,” Dasquian explained.

“For those who are part of a family unit... it's a little more complicated. As you can imagine, not everyone is willing to allow the testing to take place in the first place, and even those who do can be reluctant to relocate or part with their children should the results come back positive. It's a difficult, delicate operation.”

She listened quietly, brows furrowed in thought as the discussion went on around her.

"What happens to the children that the Empire finds," s'Il finally ventured.

“The Empire has their own 'relocation' program,” Dasquian replied, with a slight grimace at the thought. “Some parents are told that their children have been identified as gifted and that the Empire would like to offer them the chance to be part of a brand-new initiative within the Sub-Adult group, some kind of enrichment program... all lies, of course. Any children who aren't thrown into death camps are given to the likes of the Inquisitors for brainwashing.”

Morgan Evanar

This was very ugly, both in difficulty, scope and concept. Extermination was a simple enough idea. In some ways, the Empire was efficient, and he was sure they had an efficient proceedure for this task. One word caught his attention, though.

"Inquisitors?" He asked.

Rhianna

The Tincéir, lost her perky exterior, sad of heart, at what she was hearing. It seemed her planet wasn't the only place suffering. Rhianna knew that the same people responsible for the attacks at home, The Imperials were responsible for much, much more. She knew she would do whatever was required to help. She also knew that such a declaration wasn't needed. She remained silent, doing her very best to catch everything, so that she could understand.

"Special operatives of the Imperials whose purpose is to aggressively seek out and eradicate any threat to the Empire." Estelle offered to Morgan's query. "It is highly likely they are the originators of this new threat. We dont have a great deal of confirmed intel on them, though. It is rumored" and this she had gleaned from her own father, a supplier of military wear to the Imperials, "that they are responsible of policing even their own military personell."

Serena spread her hands, "Of course, any Force sensitive children should rightly be offered sanctuary with the Jedi." She paused, "There just are not enough of us follow through with that offer."

Dasquian Belargic

“That's why we're so keen on keeping track of your progress, of course,” Dasquian added, indicating to the Jedi present. “In the hopes that one day the Jedi Order and Republic will be able to work side by side once again.”

Serena Laran

She smiled, "That is my wish as well, Agent Belargic."

Serena turned to the other Rebellion operatives, "Loklorien and I spoke at length the other day, and we agreed that while she cannot actively help in retrieving Force sensitive children, she will be keeping in contact with me as she travels with the Layla." The Jedi smiled at the blonde woman, "She will be traveling to many different worlds, some of which may be far beyond the reach of the Empire. Not only am I hoping she will locate a suitable place for the new beginnings of the Jedi Order, but places where familes and children can be relocated to."

This was good news and a welcome response, although Estelle did not understand Serena's comment regarding Loklorien and the force-sensitive children. She discreetly looked the blonde woman over unable not to speculate mildly as to what was the obstacle. Loklorien was obviously trusted by the Jedi and was willing to be involved in a very committed way. Maybe she'd ask Dasquian later.

"Where do you plan to start the search for the children?"

Danell spoke up again, "We are putting into motion plans to begin our own testing at a large orphanage for Alderaanian refugees on Munto Codru. The groundwork has been laid for the arrival of a small team posing as a volunteer medical unit. We will be giving true vaccinations and also doing our own blood tests. Once we have our results, an extraction team will be sent in to take the children out."

The guise of an innoculations team was clever. The extractions would be low key, no doubt, and probably not so frequent as to raise notice of the Empire. There would be talk however. Eventually the wrong people would start to pay attention.

"I would assume we would want to be sending out multiple teams in order to cover the most ground in the shortest time" she spoke it as a question. "Do we have that kind of man power?"

Taking everything in, the Lupine was silent as those around her conversed. What they planned to do was their own business; she had no suggestions either way about how their operation would be conducted. After all, they were the ones more experienced.

Another few quiet moments passed, and she let her fingers trace idle patterns on the tabletop.

Danell stifled something of a nervous laugh, but did not reply, instead looking to Dasquian.

“Yes, and no. We're looking into the possibility of diverting personnel from elsewhere. This whole operation is a relatively new venture, so we're not clear on the specifics of everything yet. We'll probably stagger the teams deployment, to lower the chance of detection.”
