I'm writing something that at it's heart is inspired by the beginnings of this online community (and CC.net). It's a sci-fi/horror short (horror along the lines of outer limits & twilight zone rather than what goes bump in the night)
What I would like to do is use names and settings that were created by the people around here and CC.net who were posting around 99 and so on. Real names (first or last, doesn't matter) & online screen names for a set of characters that are in what I'm writing.
There's a very good reason as to why I'm asking for real names and not just making up or pulling them from a phone book (as is my usual tactic), but I can't say at the moment because I'm still writing it and I'm not sure if the idea I have is going to ultimately unfold the way I hope.
But what I am writing is taking place in a "lounge" on a space station in a system far away. I would love to name it the "Lizard Lounge" and fill it with characters remotely resembling those of us who romped around in those early morning hours of the summer and fall of 99... but I don't want to do so without the permission of those of you who share that history.
The piece isn't a direct reflection of that time or the board, but if it comes together the way I envision it, there would be little doubt as to where the seed of the idea came from.
So I guess in essence, I'm asking for permission from those of you who share that history, to draw upon that history freely.
If that makes sense...
final thought, just to clarify, I'm not going to be using any storyline or rollplay created by someone, just names and characters to fill the station. And only those who wouldn't mind.
