Some previews for the new season starting in October of '06. If you didn't catch the minute long preview during the premiere of SciFi's new show Eureka, you really missed out. But here it is! It gives me the chills when I watch it.

And a shorter, 30 second one:

That would make sense, or it is some kind of dream sequence.

Wow, 2 hours of great drama last night. The beginning of the third season finally came after a very long wait, but it was well worth it. As many publications and critics have said, Battlestar Galactica really is one of the best shows on TV.

It seems to me they tipped their hand a little bit with the preview of upcoming episodes showing Roslin to still be alive, unless they're part of a dream sequence or something. But I also haven't heard anything about Mary McDonnell leaving the show, so...we'll see next Friday, I guess. I also can't help but wonder if maybe they're killing off Tom Zarek...I loved seeing Richard Hatch on the show because he's been a living bridge between the old show and the new show, but if they've killed him off, they probably think his character has served its purpose.

I read somewhere that Jamie Bamber had to endure something like 3 hours of make-up every day to be transformed into the "soft" Apollo...that was wild, and that was also one of my favorite aspects of last night's episode. Ron Moore is definitely doing the same thing he did on Deep Space Nine, giving us a roster of characters who are not perfect, who make mistakes, who have emotions, and who are human.

I'm really curious to see where the Starbuck story goes...how far into the Cylon's clutches is she going to fall?

Jedi Master Carr

I think something happened with the Cylons. Either Sharon did something to them or Geta got some members of the resistance there. I don't think Roslin or Zarek will die. I did find it interesting that they seemed rather close there towards the end of the episode. Also showed that Zarek realized that Baltar was a traitor. Oh I hate Baltar, (even though I like how the actor plays him). I think he won't be going back with the others when they do eventually leave. Baltar will end up staying with the Cylons, probably similar to the position he had in the old TV series. I am hoping Starbuck wakes up. I don't particularly like how she acted in this episode. I thought it was a great two hours though and oh Dean Stockwell was great, even though he was chillingly evil.

Welcome to the neighborhood! ;)

Carr, I suspect you're right about Baltar never being able to rejoin the colonists after all is said and done, which would echo Baltar's role in the original series. And I feel the same way you do about the character...I love love love the way James Callis plays the character, but there's no doubt that he has become more twisted and evil, not to mention downright psychotic. The scene where the Cylons forced him to sign the death warrants was probably one of the best scenes in last night's episode. Although he should have let them blow his damn head off. Unless it's the Lando Calrissian twist...they still would have gotten their way even if they killed him...dunno, we'll have to wait and see.

I'm thinking there has to be some casualties from the final scene, it will be interesting to see who they might be. That was one of the great chilling images, that moment where the Cylon centurions came marching up over the hill and deployed their guns.

I also was kind of confused by Starbuck's behavior, it seemed like she turned compassionate toward the child very fast. But I'm suspecting/hoping it's another part of the game she's playing with the Cylon holding her prisoner.

Oh, and BTW, I'm not sure if I missed something...when Adama swore Sharon into the Colonial Fleet, he called her "Sharon Agathon." The original Boomer's last name was Valerii...Agathon is Helo's last name, so did this Sharon marry Helo? I don't recall that happening, although I guess that's one of those things that might have happened during the months we didn't see.

And yes, Dean Stockwell rocks. Big time :thumbup.

So, everybody did end up survivng the Cylon firing squad...good, we still need Roslin, and we still do need Tom Zarek as well. I'm just curious to see how Tigh deals with Helen, he's so addicted to the woman, but now that he's looked her treachery straight in the face...it'll be interesting to see how that all works out.

And it appears as if the cavalry will be riding to the rescue next week, woohoo! :)

Last night's episode was, as far as I'm concerned, the best episode of this series yet. I literally had goosebumps multiple times during the episode, especially when the Galactica was plummeting through the atmosphere and then jumping to FTL after the Vipers had launched, the Galactica looking like it was going down only to have the Pegasus arrive, the Pegasus slamming into the basestar, the scene with Gaeta and Baltar, the scene with Tigh and Helen, Starbuck finding out that Kasey was actually someone else's child....wow, this episode was just brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

It does make sense that Kasey wasn't really Starbuck's child, becaue then otherwise there wouldn't have been so much reverence re: Hera. And speaking of Hera...now that D'Anna has her, what's to become of her?

Great, great television.

Jinn, I have to agree - this episode was fantastic. I don't know how they're going to keep the momentum going, though the teaser for next week with Gaeta being tried for crimes against humanity by villigantes/the Resistance looks like it will be awesome too.

The scene with Tigh and Helen had me in tears. I kinda hope that Helen does still turn out to be a Cylon so we'll see her again, but if she doesn't her character still had a great turn on the show and a fitting end.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 21st, 2006, 05:31:17 PM
Well, I don't think Ellen was a cylon because there wouldn't have been need for her to go through and have sex with Cavil. It was a very touching scene I have to say that. The best scene was the one with the Pegasus especially when it went out in a blaze of glory. I can't wait for next week. Also is Roslin president now? I ask because Zarek was Vice President and with Baltar gone, shouldn't he be president. I wonder if he will give the presidency to Roslin as some kind of noble gesture and stay on as the VP.

Rutabaga
Oct 28th, 2006, 07:09:58 AM
I was glad to see Gaeta spared, and back in uniform at the end of last night's episode. I've always liked the character.

But wow, Starbuck is really on the edge of a nervous breakdown, I think. Tigh as well. Apparently next week's episode will be about both of them struggling with adjustment back to life in the fleet...it'll be interesting to see how that all plays out.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 28th, 2006, 04:43:19 PM
Really, Geata was never a traitor. I think he was a hero. If it wasn't for him they all be dead. I found it interesting how they all looked at him at the end realizing they almost killed someone who saved their lives. I found Zarek's role in this interesting. I guess he was trying to keep Roslin's good name out of it and keep the trials from focusing so much of the govt's time. Roslin did the right thing then by pardoning everyone, so they could just move on. So I guess Zarek is the VP now as well. That should be interesting to watch, although I think his character has done a 180 from Season 1.

Oct 28th, 2006, 04:52:59 PM
Oh yeah, realizing that Zarek had authorized The Circle was a scary moment...at first when they said the group had presidential authorization, I thought it was just posturing. But oh boy, was it ever not posturing. The fact that Roslin is apparently keeping him as her VP is interesting, no doubt he's going to be on a very short leash.

Well, I think he thought he was doing right. He could have even been egged on by Tigh for all we know. We know that he was the leader of the Circle. I do agree he will be on a short leash, but at the same time he isn't the person he was in Season 1. I am guessing New Caprica changed him.

Yeah, New Caprica had to have changed him, especially since he was on the death list and would have been executed by the Cylons if the rescue mission hadn't arrived in time.

I also couldn't help but feel sorry for Jammer when they blew him out the airlock :(.

So Starbuck is apparently going to attempt to straighten herself up and work through her demons...Tigh, on the other hand, appears to be attempting to drink himself to death. Yikes.

Loved the concept of the hybrids controlling the basestars.

And we were reminded that although there are 12 models of the flesh and blood Cylons, we're seen only 5 of them. This lends credence to the theories that perhaps some of the characters we've been watching all along might be Cylons after all. Baltar? Adama? Ellen?

Best moment was definitely Adama kicking Starbuck's chair over and dumping her on the ground. :thumbup

Jedi Master Carr

Well, They acted like they didn't know who the other five were themselves. The question is why? I still don't think Ellen or Billy were cylons they were human and are now dead. As for other charaters, I think there is at least one major character who might be a cylon. I know Baltar is wondering if its him. I am wondering where the virus story is going to go. I actually hope it doesn't wipe the Cylons out. It would seem too much like war of the worlds or Independence Day.

There are seven known cylon models, not five. ;) I'm not sure what their numbers are... "Xena"/Deanna is a Three, obviously we know that Baltar's cylon is a Six, and Sharon/Boomer/Athena is Eight, Doral (reporter in the miniseries) is Five... the other three male models don't have numbers yet that we are aware of (Cavil, Simon, and Leoben).

And when will Baltar learn that lying will only save his hide for the moment, and usually sets him up for worse consequences later? ^_^;

Another good episode last night...I really like the fact that this is a show that isn't afraid to tackle tough questions and try to show both sides of those questions.

And now I finally have the answer to the question I asked after the season premiere...yup, Sharon/Athena is now actually married to Helo. I'm a little surprised that that happened so quietly, but maybe it will be fodder for a future episode.

I liked how Adama treated the virus and that he let Helo get away with what he did. To me I think it would have been a mistake to commit mass Genocide, besides whose to say it would have come back and did them in. The whole thing with Baltar was very creepy.

Anywho, about last night's episode...I wasn't all that into it at first, seeing as how I'm not a boxing fan in the slightest, but then those last 15 minutes...oh boy, did the crap ever hit the fan. Starbuck's marriage was already over before this, and I think it's safe to say that Apollo's marriage is over as well. The question now is, how far are they going to take the Apollo/Starbuck relationship?

And how about Adama and Roslin getting all cozy when things were first setting up on New Caprica, eh? ;)

I guess he will kind of take full control now of the Cylon Fleet which is great, he is a terrific bad guy in this show. Finally, I wonder who the other 5 are, especially the one she said sorry to. I dunno...The President is a Cylon? Hmm. I'm not so sure on that one. If she was, wouldn't Baltar know? His Cylon detector does actually work: the fact that he just gives everyone the green light regardless isn't evidence of it being ineffective. I think he'd keep an eye on the actual results, at least in the early stages: if its someone high-profile like Adama or the President, I'd expect him to already know that.

I'm wondering if its Starbuck. For starters, there's been rumours that the character is getting taken in a different direction this season, and the fact that she drew the supernova while on Caprica...*shrug* If she's one of the original five, her being on Caprica long enough to know Lee is understandable...and it'd be nice to see Adama exonerated from blame for starting the war.

Depends how paranoid Baltar is, though. Would he have checked up on the person he slept with, just to make sure he wasn't frakking Cylons like Helo?

Also, dunno if any of you have seen this, but it made me chuckle:

Well, I thought his cylon detecter didn't work. I thought he said something to that effect to 6 that it didn't matter since he was basically making it up as he went with each person. If it did work than he wouldn't think it was possible he was a cylon. Personally, I am thinking Baltar will end up one of the 5 but that is just my hunch. Cara has been confirmed by the creators as not being a cylon.

That was because he found out that Sharon was a Cylon. The detector worked on her, but he lied, so he wouldn't "betray" the Cylons. The episode where he ran the test on Tigh's wife was the one where he told Six that he was going to tell everyone that they were a Cylon.

Knowing how paranoid Baltar is, I would've thought he'd have tested the President and Adama, if only to gain leverage against them - he did, after all, stand against Roslin for Presidency. Surely he would've wanted to know?

As for Gaius being a Cylon...I'm really not so sure. In the original (and I know this is re-imagined, but still), Gaius just betrayed humankind. And I think that makes for a better dynamic to the character. If he was actually a Cylon, it completely removes a dimension from the character.

What I don't get though is how the numbers of the models work. Sharon is an 8. Caprica is a 6. D'Anna is, as I understand it, a 3. And Dean Stockwell is a 2. If these are the first five...why aren't the others numbered 6-10? And if its because the other five fill in the blanks...why doesn't D'Anna already know who they are, since her model was (presumably) developed third? Was the knowledge erased from their memories or something?

It would? Dumb moment here...but what did she ever do to Tyrol?

The more I think about it, the more I begin to wonder why she was appologising. She only encountered the main cast twice really: once as D'Anna, and then again on New Caprica. I'm trying to think back to who they might have wronged or killed in that time.

Excluding those who's names appear in the start-up sequence, Tom Zarak was a high-profile prisoner who the Cylons detained. Saul Tigh had his eye plucked out, which was a pretty appology-worthy incident. There's also Gaeta, who spent all his time around the Cylons while serving under Baltar. And lastly, there's Helen Tigh and her Cavil frakking who, though tested for being a Cylon, never had her result revealed.

In that last case, it all comes down to whether Baltar tested her and lied about her not being a Cylon, or whether he just didn't bother, and faked the result. If the former case is true, then she's off the hook: Baltar wouldn't need to ask who the other five were if he knew about her. But if he didn't bother to look, she's still a name on the table.

I hope it isn't Tyrol honestly, because I like him as a character. Lol. He has had doubts about being a Cylon or not in the past: those were shot down by Cavil, but then, the final five probably weren't at any of the meetings either.

Cavil is a shifty one. I think he knows more than he lets on, especially since he was the one who boxed the Threes. Besides, he could always ask Ziggy who the final five are. ;)

Now I think its Gaeta, and then it does make sense why she's apologizing to him. Helen Tigh is dead dead?? I think its been pretty much proven she isn't a Cylon. ^_^; This show! :shakefist

I think I would find this thread more interesting if everything wasn't masked by spoilers. From looking at the masked stuff in this thread, most is either discussion about events that have already occured on the show or speculation about what might happen.

Are speculation, or things that have aired, really spoilers that should be masked? I'd say no, and no masks would make the thread much easier to follow and read. :p

And just to back up my own talk, I'll add a few of my thoughts even though they aren't all that new or even very deep.

I'm starting to lean more and more towards Gaeta being one of the cylons, but am also still unconvinced that Baltar is not one. Though the surprise on D'ianna's face and her apology make me think one of the big three colonials, Adama, Rosilin, or Tigh could be one.

And now for a real spoiler, though not a big one, and just a tiny bit misleading how I state it. There will be an appearance by Lee's mother before this season ends

You're right, speculation shouldn't have to be masked, nor should things that have already happened. I tend to go overboard. ^_^;

I can't remember, did Baltar test himself with his Cylon testing device? And whatever happened to that? It obviously worked, because Sharon was unmasked by it early on in the first season.... it seems to have disappeared now, however. :(

The only danger with "already happened" stuff is that people might come wandering in here not realising the next episode has aired in a particular country, and might read something by accident. But meh - I guess you browse these sorts of threads at your own peril.

When Baltar was asked to test Tigh's wife, he had to stop and start the process so many times (presidential orders to check Adama, etc), that he got fed up. Everyone now gets a green light, but the inference at the end of the episode was that Baltar did actually know the correct answer at the time: he said "I'll never tell", or words to that effect.

I'm guessing that Baltar "bluffed" his way through the Galactica crew, and then became Vice President and thus had other duties. It kinda fell by the wayside after that.

Ignore my point about Tyrol. For some reason when I read that, I thought it said Tigh. I think he would make more sense becuase he did have his eye taken out and for all we know, D'Anna might have been there when it happened.

I've been starting to think that Tigh is a Cylon as well. It's just this weird feeling I have. I also don't think that Baltar is one, because that would just be too obvious, especially after all his hand-wringing over it. And I know there are people out there who love to speculate that Adama is one, but I just can't get past one thing...if Adama is a Cylon, then where did Lee come from? Especially since it's been made very clear that Hera is the first of her kind (as far as anyone knows). And yup, Gaeta might be one as well, I could definitely see that happening.

Great episode this weekend (finally watched it last night). I'm just peeved at Dee for taking Lee back because I really feel like he full-on lied to her. As presented in that flashback episode, I didn't feel like he married Dee because he loved her...he married her because he was so angry that Kara had gone off and married Sam after that night out in the fields. Lee had just better treat Dee like a queen after this. :shakefist

But I'm tired of all the Lee/Kara drama bullcrap! Who cares! I liked it muchbetter when they were just squadmates. :mad

Yeah, I agree...I'm kind of hoping that what happened in this week's episode means that the situation is resolved, at least for the time-being. We need to see Baltar on trial, stat! :D

Tristan Tahmores

I can't be mad at Dee really: she obviously loves him, so you can't really blame her for wanting him back. And I think Lee loves her too...he just has "unresolved feelings" towards Kara as well. Its one of those "what if" scenarios: he could be happy for the rest of his life with Dee, but he'd always be wondering what might have happened with Kara.

Hopefully, they've resolved that now, though. Lee and Dee make a cute couple: Apollo'd better not screw it up again. :shakefist

We haven't talked much about BSG lately, but, boy, can't let last night's episode go by without some kind of comment.

I haven't heard a peep about Katee Sackhoff leaving the show--if anyone has, speak up--but I can't help but believe that the groundwork has now been laid for us to find out in the season finale in a couple of weeks that Starbuck is one of the final 5 Cylons. :eek

Well I don't think she is dead. I think that vortex suckered into somewhere else. To me it looked like her ship was doing something before you saw that explosion. It reminded me how the Delorean in BTTF before it went in time. I am going to guess she is going to leap to Earth. She will then come back next season and lead Galactica to Earth. I think that is her destiny.

That's true...that's a very good possibility. I'm just still awfully curious, though, because the producers have assured us that we will learn the identity of one of the final 5 Cylons by the end of the season...we're still left with wondering just who that might be, if Starbuck isn't one of them.

Jedi Master Carr
Mar 5th, 2007, 04:52:44 PM
I am not sure who that is. I expect it is somebody on Galactica and probably between: Tigh, Dee, and Gaeta. To me those would be the big shockers. We can rule out a lot of characters like the Adamas, Roslin and probably even Baltar. Those above three would be shocks especially the first two.

So, we're heading toward the season finale on Sunday, and according to the emails I've received from the Sci-Fi Channel touting it, we're supposed to find out the identities of all 5 final Cylons. Based on what happened during this week's episode, I've got picks on 4 of them...I'll spoilerize it just in case, since it's a certain amount of speculation: Sam (Starbuck's hubby), Tori (Roslin's aide), Colonel Tigh, and Starbuck. I'm not sure who I'd guess the fifth one is.

Dang, but Lee sure screwed himself this week, losing both his father and his wife in the process. I don't know how he'll ever repair his relationship with his father after this boneheaded move. And I was sad to hear that Roslin's cancer has returned.

And I still can't believe what I read in TV Guide, that the show has been renewed for a 4th season, which won't begin until JANUARY. ARGH!!!

JANUARY!? :cry

That is much too long. That will be almost a whole year since the end of this season. :shakefist I put up with the October start last year but this is too much. I'll have forgotten about the show by then!

Wow and I loved the ending First Baltar gets off, which was no surprise. I knew he wouldn't be executed. Then we find out who who four of the five cylons are. Tigh, Tyrol, Tori, and Anders. I actually predicted Tigh. I had a funny feeling he was a cylon. Then the end I knew Starbuck wasn't dead :) I think she went into some kind of wormhole that led her to Earth that is why she can lead the fleet there. The only part that sucks is we have to wait almost a year yikes

Muhahahaha, I'd predicted Tigh, Tori, and Sam, and I was right :). I figured the whole thing with only certain people hearing the music was a major clue. The only one I hadn't predicted was Tyrol, but as I recall, they didn't hint that he could hear the music until this episode started.

Now, the promo material I'd been emailed by Sci-Fi said we would find out the identity of all 5 of the final Cylons. Either that was a boo-boo and we're still left with finding out who the 5th one is, or else we did find out but still need to speculate...I'm still sticking with the idea of Starbuck being one until proven otherwise :evil.

Overall, this was just a fabulous episode. Although I kept thinking that Lee's testimony never would have been allowed in an American courtroom (not sure about a military tribunal), it was extraordinarily powerful and definitely had the right effect. And especially to find out that Adama voted for aquittal...wow!

I just can't believe that they're making us wait until January to pick up the story. That's just cruel. :shakefist

I am going with Roslyn if they did reveal something. I am going to say because she fainted and had the same dreams Six had. I think it is strange to see Six and Roslyn have the exact same dream. It could be that the final cylon is somebody we haven't met. I don't think Starbuck is a cylon. I don't think she died in Malestorm, I think she went into some kind of wormhole to Earth.

My mother has saved an article re: BSG from the LA Times for me, and she said the article said it won't be a completely dry 9 months before we get season 4. We're apparently going to get a standalone episode sometime in the fall. Once I get the article in my hot little hands this weekend, I'll post any more info that I think is useful :).

I got the LA Times article last night, and there isn't a whole lot of revelations about the show...it's basically a review of the season finale, and a very glowing one at that. It doesn't have any description of the standalone episode other than the fact that it is "continuing the story between seasons." And the final paragraph is worth quoting, I think:

For all the speculation that Starbuck, an indispensible bombshell of a protagonist, will wind up as a Cylon baddie, she also might not. It wouldn't be the end of the world. It would be just another twist in the complex, but never convoluted, drama.

And to think, the Emmys will no doubt ignore the show again later this year :mischief.

Oh, hey, one thing I'd meant to post earlier about the season finale that didn't dawn on me right away...we now know that Tyrol is a Cylon. He and Callie have a son. So there's another half-human, half-Cylon child aboard!

And speaking of the half-Cylon half-human child thing...that might be a reason why Roslin was sharing Six's and Sharon's dream. After all, it was Hera's blood that cured her cancer the first time. Just a thought :).

Well it would work it being the second half cylon born. I think the reason why she had a baby was because the Chief loved Cally.

Geez, they went to significant lengths to pull off the Starbuck storyline. I'm amazed that all that effort paid off so well, I really was shocked when her Viper went poof.

Just posting to say I've finally managed to get ahold of BSG season 1 and I am highly impressed - this revisioning is every bit as good as the original BSG was bad.

Also, Baltar is by far my favorite character. Very well done to the actor and the writers for making a character I can really get into.

I agree, season 3 was a step down compared to season 2. But everything looks inferior compared to that. Season 2 was epic TV series making, while season 3 was "just" good / decent / great depending on your perspective.
