Several years ago, Peter and I saw a teaser poster for a new TMNT movie in one of our local cinemas. Naturally, we were excited so when we got home we looked it up and found precious little. There have been rumblings in the recent past but as far as I knew, there had been nothing further going on for the project. That was until I hopped over to AICN and found a link to the teaser trailer:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/teenagemutantninjaturtles/

You get to see a fair bit of the turtles gracefully soaring over the city rooftops and the style and colour are perfect. I've no idea how the film will turn out, and I was suprised to see it animated rather than live action but I much prefer this choice for the ninja (hero, if you're British :P) turtles.

So, it gets the thumbs up from me. What do you guys think?

Wow. This came out of nowhere. The trailer reminds me a little of Spiderman, with all the rooftop water towers etc. Not sure what to think, really. I'm guessing from the animation style and the gag at the end that this is going to be aimed more at younger kids?

I'm sure it will but like all good animated films these days, they can equally appeal to adults. I'll definately be going to see this next year.

And for the record, my favourite turtle is Donatello. :cool:thumbup

I'm sure I'll see it too.

Donatello was always my fav as well. He was the brains behind that outfit :D Though Michaelangelo was pretty sassy, he would be my second fav.

Wow, I'll have to check this out.

The original TMNT film was a fav of mine as a kid. It's also a bit of an unsung hero in terms of successful comic book films too - it made $135 million way back in 1990.

After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Max Winters is amassing an army of ancient monsters to apparently take over the world.

That's the synopsis. That last line sounds pretty daft but like you said, it is a kid's film after all. I just hope old Shredhead turns up in the very last shot of the film for a cliffhanger ending for Turtles 2. And this time, I want to see Krang, Beebop and Rocksteady, too! :(

I too thought, and still think, the first TMNT film was great. Think I'll have to check it out again soon for an old nostalgia trip.

Is the plot line derived from the comics or the TV series? I remember the original 1990 films came mainly from the comics and that it didn't involve Krang, Beebop, Rocksteady etc since they were inventions of the 80s TV series (or so I've read).

On that note, I haven't seen the newest TV series yet - how does it fit in with the general scheme of things? I understand it's closer to the comics than the 80s series was.

He's neck & neck with Raphael in my book.

While I think all inner nerds loved Donatello, I've always had a soft spot for dark, brooding, film-noir characters, and Raphael fits that to the letter.

Oh, and Christin just recently bought the trilogy and added it to our vast collection :D

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
LOL :lol

Which song version is that? I remember hearing about how some versions were altered because the censors didn't like the word 'ninja' (felt it related too much to violence etc).

EDIT: saw Sanis' post.

I always liked Donatello, but I have to admit I grew to like Raphael and Leonardo a lot following the 1990 film. The scene where they make up and are then caught hugging by April and Donatello (or was it Michelanglo?) was fantastic. :)

I've not caught the newest TV incarnation of them unfortunately. As for what you said about the aforementioned characters, I think you're right and given the appearance of the teaser and what I would like to see from the film, I don't think the high camp antics of Krang and the goons would fit.

Raph would be in at second place for me. I quite liked his edginess and snappy wit. I wonder if anyone liked Leonardo most? I feel he may suffer from the boring righteous leader syndrome that Cyclops seems to endure.

Well I think in the new cartoon the Shredder is an alien. Yeah it sounded lame to me when I found that out.

Cyclops is at least a well-monied twit. Leonardo is just a boyscout. I guess the whole wannabe martial arts mystics would be all about his adherance to Splinter's teachings or something, but yeah he never really struck me as interesting.

That said, I probably liked him more than Michaelangelo, simply because I always considered him too carefree, liability-prone, and completely annoying.

I found the Wikipedia page for the new series, and indeed it confirms that Shredder is an alien.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_(2003_TV_series)

Also I found a description for the newest film:

The Turtles' fourth feature film, entitled simply TMNT, is currently in pre-production, with a theatrical release date scheduled for March 30, 2007. Unlike the previous films, it will be using 100% computer-generated imagery, produced by Imagi Animation Studios and distributed by The Weinstein Company and Warner Bros. Pictures. According to a press release, "the PG-rated movie will derive its tone from the original comic-book series and will be slightly grittier than the previous live-action pictures. The animation will be created in Imagi’s state-of-the-art facility in Hong Kong."

There's also a Wikipedia page for it too:

(Wikipedia - gotta love it. :) )

Agreed - I think all age groups will be able to enjoy this one. I know I will. At least I hope I will...I will certainly give it the chance.
Unless they bring in the Neutrinos. Then I'm out.

I wonder how much Donatello's dominance in the early-90's arcade & SNES games lead people to say he's their favorite turtle? My favorite turtle on-screen is Raphael but I wouldn't touch him in the video game. It was Donnatello or bust. :smokin

They were called the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK. Not really sure why! Maybe it was a censor issue.

I can't imagine the song without the "heroes in a half-shell!" bit. Did they have "ninja's in a half-shell!" in the US? o_O

No, it was Heroes in a half-shell, but Ninja Turtles.

Hey, their arms and legs are a bit skinny. I always remembered thicker turtles, even back into the days of the comics. Still liiks like fun, though.

This looks awesome. I always liked Leonardo. He had the most self control. It's something I had trouble with when I was little, so I admired him for it.

EDIT: Heard that Quinton Flynn (Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2) is voicing Casey Jones. I hope not. If it is true, I hope he doesn't use the same voice he used for Raiden. It doesn't suit Casey at all to me. I'd prefer it to be closer to the way Elias Koteas portrayed the character in the old trilogy.

He's also the voice that did Axel in Kingdom Hearts 2. =/
