The sun was setting and Darius had just finished a three day 'trek' from the Western Sea back to the Uscru Entertainment District, where he had taken up residency only a week ago. During his stay on Coruscant, before things took a turn for the worst, Darius use to enjoy the sight of the Western Seas and would visit the cool waters quiet often. Now, being homeless and having no funds for traveling, he could only manage a visit every two months, if he was lucky. He would start early in the mornings, walking a good ways, picking up loose change or doing some small deed to earn a few creds and by the end of the day, he could usually find someone to give him a ride the rest of the way; for a small price of course.
Walking back behind a small night club, Darius found his usual spot and plopped down, resting his back against the cool dura steel wall. Leaning his head back, he could hear the electronic beat of music resounding inside. When he first chose this spot as home, it was annoying to hear that crap every night, but as time went on, one gets use to it. Besides, sometimes it made the night go by faster. Looking over to his right where he kept all his things tucked away in a small box, Darius lifted up its lid and pulled out a blanket. Cuddling up next to a small pile of clothes, which he also pulled out of that small box, Darius feel asleep.
Things didn’t use to be like this, not saying Darius was the richest man on Coruscant, but he use to have a good amount of credits stored up. But one day that all changed. Soon after he had arrived here on Coruscant, Darius’ bank account suddenly became victim to massive scam headed up by some big shot banker. He didn’t get far before he was arrested but since Darius was new to the bank and had just opened his account, he hadn’t been a member long enough to acquire insurance for just such an event. At first, it wasn’t that bad. He had about 1200 creds on him and it served him well… for a time. Once it ran out though, he quickly learned why Coruscant had such a high suicide rate. Food came in small amounts, if any came at all, water was easy to come by, if you didn’t mind drinking dirt and every other foul smelling thing the planet had to offer with it, and showers, he could only showers when it rained and it hadn’t rained for quite sometime.
Being raised in a monastery Darius believed he had only two things going for him: God and the gift God had given him as a child, the ability to see the future. Every so often, Darius would receive a vision of the near future, what Darius decided to do with that vision was up to him, but no matter what he did to try and make them stop, they never did. He would try to stop the events from happening and sometimes he succeeded, but for every success came twice as much failure. He could only take it so much death, so much innocence being destroyed by wickedness. Darius would ask God at night, as he laid underneath the stars, to forgive him for not being able to help those in his visions, but he never received an answer. For so long it seemed like Darius did nothing but pray for God to relieve him of the visions, but he never did. So Darius soon began to think God had abandoned him and in doing so, left behind his childhood teachings and stopped praying.
Rolling over, Darius scared himself awake as a few Humans and Twi’leks went walking by. Most nights that meant a mugging or a beating when they found out his pockets were empty, but tonight he was able to let out a sigh of relief as they kept walking. Darius closed his eyes again and soon fell back asleep. With no friends or family to turn to, he had to watch out for himself just like every other bum in the ally. It was sad really. You’d think they would group together and help one another, on the contrary, they way they saw it, if you died, they got some new clothes and whatever else you had on you. Yes, it was sad, but when you have nothing to lose, it was something to look forward to.
