It has been announced - all Star Wars movies are being re-released next year in 3D! I'm not sure if it's starting next year, or if they're releasing them all next year. I can't seem to find anything on the official site other than some message board buzz about the new 3D technology they're using.

Great news! I can't wait to see how they make this work! :D

I still am not sure about this. I doubt they could get the movies on more than 500 theaters. 3D technology right now can only be shown on digitial theaters and IMAX ones. And there are only about 500 of those combined in the U.S.

Well that averages out to about 10 per state. That's not disastrous. I don't think this is meant to be a widespread major release more than it is to push technology on theater owners.

This just sounds like another gimmick they're going to exploit to make more money out of ravenous fanboys.

Well I was saying that because I am not sure if I would be able to see any of them :P the closest one to me is probably a 3 hour drive.

Hell, id go and see it. Image the lightsaber and star fights in 3D. Yeah, I'll have some of that thank you.

LOL If there was one within an hour drive I probably do it. Three hours is a little far. I guess we will have to see.

Three hours is Seattle for me. We do that all the time!

Ok, well, not ALL the time, but it isn't that hard. :)

Well 3 hours would be Atlanta for me or about the same distance to Charleston. I would have to really see.

From the sounds of things this is a cinema re-release, not another DVD boxset, so no need to buy anything... apart from a ticket!
