Or, a good weekend :D

Friday night, I met up with a buddy of mine who came up from Auburn to go shooting and hang out with me. We went to the Alabama Training Institute Pistol Range, which is a few blocks from where I work. Got started shooting (I was using my Springfield XD40 and my friend used an awesome Smith & Wesson 5906) and a couple of cops from the Gardendale PD came in to work on their qualifications. We got a chance to shoot alongside them and compare our groupings. At 15 meters, I'm glad to say that I posted better groupings than the police :)

After this, we decided to do something even more fun. We changed the targets from regulation "que" targets, to hostage targets, which is a big picture of a woman being held at gunpoint by a hostage taker, such that the woman's body is fully exposed to gunfire, but the hostage taker is not. We set the targets up at 4 meters this time. Everybody holstered their weapons, then drew, and fired in a mozambique drill (two shots to the chest, one to the head). If you've seen Collateral, you'll have a good idea of what I'm talking about if you remember the scene when Tom Cruise's character confronts the two muggers who take his briefcase. It's a three shot maneuver, from drawing, to aiming, to firing. You go as fast as you can possibly control your sidearm

As for who won?

Good guys of course :)

Saturday was fun. We all linked up at Christin's place, chillaxed a bit, and watched Indiana Jones. Tried to get Christin into a rematch of a game of zombies, but she declined. I'll get her one day.

Also...I found four bottles of Conecuh Ridge at the liquor store. My single most favorite booze in the history of anything is back and legal to drink again! I bought three bottles ^_^;

Sunday, me & a bunch of folks went to Pleasant Grove, to the FOP firing range. I finally got talked into becoming a member there, which means I can go any time I want for free, and invite any of you schmoes for a low $10 fee :)

The FOP range is pretty huge. It's got a 100+ meter rifle range with steel and paper targets. Firing lines are under covered pavillions, and you can use the range's zeroing benches and sighting scopes if you want. It's a pretty sweet setup if you're wanting to zero your rifle. I did such with my AR and my WASR-10 and it worked very well.

More pictures to be released soon I'm sure :)

Oh and look what is finished!

Well, not "finished", but fully servicable at least. Zeroed out and dead accurate at 100+ meters, which is all that I ask from a carbine. It's probably accurate out a good deal farther, but I haven't ranged it out beyond the FOP's rifle testing.

man, that thing really took form fast. Looks good, man. Now, get us some video footage of you shooting up targets :)
