View Full Version : Emergence: Brave New Worlds [Rebel Alliance]

Serena placed her hands on the flight stick of Serenity, guiding the yacht through the microjump from the location of General Tomahawk's fleet. Morgan was in the back cabin with Rhianna, most likely teaching the girl more Basic. She only hoped that the tincéir girl did not pick up some of the galaxy's more crude sayings from him.

She looked over at the man sitting in the co-pilot's seat, Byl Laprovik. "Providing your coordinates are correct, we are there."

Byl nodded, but was silent, eyes looking out the viewscreen. He did not trust her, but that was all right because she did not fully trust him either. Faced with her choices, however, this was the only one to make. If he could indeed bring her into contact with the Rebel Alliance she would be much closer to her goal. He was either a stroke of good luck -

No, there was no such thing as luck. Serena pulled her thick red braid over one shoulder, and returned her gaze to the console.

She activated the ship's sensors, sweeping the surrounding space for any sign of the so-called Rebel fleet. "I wanted to say thank you, for your assistance with the General. She is not an easy woman to convince to change her plans."

The Rebel fleet, if it could be called that, was comprised of little more than a handful of corvettes and fighter jets, all clustered around a single larger frigate vessel. The Alliance did want to attract any Imperial attention, so divided its resources accordingly. What the passengers of the Serenity had happened upon was just a small part of a much larger collective.

As the yacht exited hyperspace, the Nebulon-B frigate was the first to acknowledge it's presence. With its sensors scanning a wide circumference of usually barren space, the appearance of any new ship was always given high priority. The vessel was marked immediately as being unfamiliar and not part of one of the many scout patrols and envoys that travelled to and from the frigate on a regular basis. “Scans are showing no working weaponry, no distinguishing marks matching anything in the database. Just a skeleton crew on board... should we send a hail?”

It was a risky choice, and one left to Intelligence Director Dasquian Belargic. On the one hand, the yacht could have been innocently passing through the nearby space and simply stumbled upon the drifting Rebel convoy. On the other, it's sudden and unexpected appearance had the markings of a trap. There might have been other vessels in waiting on the signal to attack. Whatever the case, the crew of the yacht would have spotted the Alliance vessels by now. “Open frequency,” Dasquian nodded at last, waiting a moment before continuing, his voice now being relayed across space: “Vessel, please identify yourself.”

"She's been out on her on for a long time. Guess its hard to listen to anybody but yourself when that's the case."

Inwardly, Byl knew he was also describing himself with that statement.

The hail came in, and Byl put a hand on Serena's shoulder.

"Let me."

He spoke into the comm.

"Black Seven Four. Requesting docking clearance. I'm escorting guests of interest."

Grace waited patiently alongside her partner, leaning over the comm console to get a better idea of the ship's specs. It was a fairly harmless vessel, an older model that dated back to the Old Republic. There were no markings on the ship that identified it however. That caused alarm and she prayed that the Force would spare them a trap. Their fleet was slowly being rebuilt and an attack at this critical time could be disastrous.

"Black Seven Four. Requesting docking clearance. I'm escorting guests of interest."

"Black Seven Four?" Her brows crinkled in thought. "Why does that sound familiar?"

Morgan had been talking to Rhianna ever since intense dinner that had gotten them out of the frying pan and toward a hot skillet. He didn’t want anything to do with the Rebels, even though they had offered him decent pay after springing him out of Stars End. It had been a very strange coincidence. He had turned it down because, in his mind, joining them was a ticket to be shot at all the time instead of whenever a bounty hunter found him. Now it looked like he was going to be chased by both the Empire and bounty hunters.

So much for that plan.

Instead of dwelling on this, he had simply immersed himself in learning Rhianna’s language, and teaching her Basic. He had asked Serena to only speak to him in it. His vocabulary and grammar use improved by leaps and bounds every day as he did his best to fill Serena in on the recent happenings in the foriegn tongue when he wasn’t in the back of the ship. Rhianna’s language had different tense rules and subject/verb arrangements that were not totally alien to Basic. She could now communicate in awkward, often incorrectly tensed sentences about simple subjects such as food, her general state of being and welfare. Right now he focused on the spoken word, because it would be a little while before she needed how to read, and practical spoken basic didn’t always follow the same rules as written basic. Morgan felt there was no need to confuse the two.

“Tell me about the river you mentioned yesterday.” He asked.

Rhianna
Jun 7th, 2006, 09:05:42 PM
She was so weary of being confined to her bunk. It was to be expected though. Ever since her recent bout of illness, Sámh had been at her constantly with medicines. Rhianna had been told the "injections" were going to make her stronger. Safe on her remote world, she hadn't been exposed to a lot of the everday germs that were floating around. They didn't make others sick, but to her they could be very serious. Until she had completed the series, she was to stay in bed. Boring.

It wasn't a total loss though. Morgan came to sit with her a lot of the time and he was teaching her to speak the other words. Although she had a tendency to roll her r's a bit, she was picking up the new tongue quickly. It helped of course that Morgan was also learning to speak her own language. Much.. quicker than she was learning his. Apparently he had a talent for such things.

She didn't even try to make the words. She just focused on what she had told him yesterday about one of her favorite places. It was a holy river that her family had stopped at frequently in their perpetual wanderings. How to describe it..

"Naofa.. It was important to the Tincéir . In the middle of a very thick part of the ..tree's? " She was sure there was a better word for the place, but she had already explained the place in her own tongue once.

"It was dark there. No sun. Many tree's. The water was bright. Lit from under. "

She didn't know enough basic words to properly describe the sacred river. In the middle of a dense forest, the river shone like liquid diamonds. It spouted from a massive waterfall and was the source for many of the rivers and streams in her homeland. The source of their water and how their clans mapped their travels. It wasn't known why the river cast the white glow in the middle of the darkest part of the forest. Some said it was from the tiny creatures that lived in the water, they were the light. Rhianna didn't know the answer, she just loved the solace and peace of the place.

"Beautiful."

Serena waited for the Alliance to respond, finally picking up the fleet on the sensors. For a small ship she had good sensors, but they did not have the range of a larger ship, such as the frigate that was before them.

The fleet was small, and still far enough away that it was hard to see them on the viewscreen. The Jedi Knight ran her hand down her braid and continued moving Serenity towards the ragtag fleet. If this was all the Rebellion against the Empire had, they were in poor shape.

"Do they always wait this long to reply, Byl?" She turned to study his face, but he didn't seem worried at all. He was tense, but that was to be expected.

Byl Laprovik
Jun 8th, 2006, 01:57:47 PM
"They're probably busy running my clearance."

Byl's hawkish eyes glanced to and from the distant specks of the Rebel task force.

"Keep your course tight. They'll bring an escort when they recognize me."

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 9th, 2006, 07:57:51 AM
One of the communications techs, with a database of information at his fingertips, ran the call sign through the Alliance's list of known contacts and allies. It was only a matter of seconds before a result was returned, and a personnel datafile appeared on-screen. “Laprovik?”

To Dasquian, the name rang a bell. “Now where do I...”

“He's listed as a casual operative of ours. Apparently he hasn't touched base for sometime... should we clear them?”

Belargic nodded. “Send out an escort to meet them. Have them searched on arrival, then send them up to conference room six.”

The comm channel opened once more. Clearance was given to the yacht and within minutes a shuttle was deployed and en route to meeting the Serenity. Dasquian and Grace departed the bridge, heading for the privacy of the conference room.

“Guests of interest... what do you think he meant by that?”

Grace Van-Derveld
Jun 10th, 2006, 09:01:42 AM
Grace studied her datapad and frowned. Laprovik was a good Agent and was sent out on various under cover and high priority missions in the past. He wasn't known to really link in on a regular basis but everything checked out.

"I'm not sure." She called up his last known whereabouts, which were two months old. Seemed Laprovik was hopping around the systems towards the Rebels various safe houses to keep low. "Nothing in his records mention kidnapping or rescues."

Dasquian opened the doors to conference room six and Grace stepped inside. "We'll find out when we have our crew search them and the ship. I really hate surprises."

Morgan Evanar
Jun 11th, 2006, 08:34:21 PM
Morgan smiled and corrected Rhianna’s speech. He explained what she did wrong in Basic, and filled in any gaps of misunderstanding in her language.

“We’ve been out of hyperspace for several minutes. I’m going to go see what is going on.” He said. Morgan stopped in the door, waved, and then dashed up to the cockpit.

He paused, his powerful vision picking up several ships on the main screen. The Nebulon B loomed closest. It alone easily outgunned Serena’s vessel, and they probably were in range already.

“Any luck so far?” He was more asking Serena. Byl was playing his own game with his own rules, he suspected, and Morgan didn’t trust him. He was also leading them into the Alliance, which made Morgan a little resentful.

Serena Laran
Jun 12th, 2006, 04:26:05 PM
"Yes, Morgan." Serena pointed at the HUD for the sensors to indicate the shuttle that was coming towards them, flanked by two Y-Wings. "We are being escorted in." She was grateful that Morgan was gentle with Rhianna, and that he was being understanding about their situation since the initial plan to drop him off on Ithor had gone haywire.

He hadn't seemed to mind where he was being taken, as long as it was away from Hutt space. But since they had been captured by the General and it seemed apparent they were going to be taken to the Rebellion, she had sensed an underlying tension to his demeanor. He didn't trust Byl, and had spent most of the trip as far away from the man as possible.

Serena did not fully trust Laprovik - he was a man of many facets and he was certainly not revealing all of his true intentions to them. The Jedi guided the yacht towards the frigate, and as it was only a little bit larger than a shuttle they were greenlit for a hangar. Serenity slipped through the opening and landed quietly on the deckplating.

Byl Laprovik
Jun 12th, 2006, 07:12:23 PM
Byl was already up on his feet, with his hand on the egress hatch. He paused, glancing back to speak to Morgan.

"Is the girl fit to leave quarters?"

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 17th, 2006, 04:09:41 AM
Outside the Serenity a small group had amassed. Six armed men and one escort guard were waiting for the guests to exit their ship. They had been instructed to be courteous yet firm with the new arrivals. Once they had departed, others would arrive to give the yacht a once over.

Meanwhile, Dasquian and Grace sat waiting, occasionally glancing again over Byl's file for some indication of what might be stepping through the conference room doors.

Grace Van-Derveld
Jun 17th, 2006, 09:04:31 AM
Grace threw the datapad away with disgust. "There's absolutely nothing in these files to give us a clue what he was doing. Hell, our boys higher up were tempted to list him as MIA because he hadn't checked in for so long."

The small computer at her desk chimed with an incoming page. "Yes? What is it?"

Ma'am. We're waiting for the passengers to depart now as ordered. So far scanners pick up four life forms. One of them seems to be ill according to the vitals.

That was interesting. "Very well. Give them another five minutes and hail them again if no one contacts you."

Yes, Ma'am.

"We have three guests of interest, one of them is ill. Perhaps that is why Laprovik sought us out." The resigned look on her face said it all. "Nothing we can do but wait."

Morgan Evanar
Jun 17th, 2006, 12:35:29 PM
Unlike the previous encounter, we docked the ship ourselves this time, and while our escort was armed, there were no blasters in faces. Morgan was less nervous, but he still wondered what Laprovik’s game was. Serena was awash with calm, as always. Morgan supposed it was a Jedi trait.

The whole affair was too uptight. Morgan fanned out his fingers and put his wrists on his temples.

“Wooooo… take us to your leader.” He said, waving his hands around. It was immature and silly and dammit that was what the situation needed.

Serena Laran
Jun 17th, 2006, 12:39:55 PM
Serena's eyes widened at Morgan's antics, but she couldn't hold back a smile. Rhianna was walking beside her, arm linked through hers, and the Jedi turned her attention quickly back to helping the girl out of the ship. She was strong enough to walk, but tired easily. In a few days the girl would be as good as new.

Byl was standing up with Morgan, and the Jedi listened carefully to what his reaction to the slicer's actions would be.

Byl Laprovik
Jun 17th, 2006, 12:54:28 PM
"Hehehe."

Byl cracked an appreciative laugh at Morgan's joke.

Back to business, he passed a dataslip to the ranking escort.

"I need to see the ship's commander. Also, the girl needs medical attention. My clearance should be in order."

On the coded slip, they would find my background and commission as an Alliance Captain. My tours of duty would include Hoth, Endor, Sullust, and Bothauwi, with large gaps in between reserved only for "special assignment". My current orders listed as "local population interdiction" which loosely meant to persuade neutral parties into open rebellion. Such activities were necessary to destabilize the outer rim and add recruits to the cause.

That being said, nobody knew exactly what liberties I could and did take with those orders.

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 18th, 2006, 01:18:55 PM
A quick scan search of each passenger was performed. The guard who had been placed in charged looked quickly over the identification provided by Byl. Another guard, meanwhile, radio'd for a medic team to be sent down to the hangar bay. Soon enough, the small team had arrived to take Rhianna away. “Everything here seems to be in order. The medic team will take the girl for her treatment while the rest of you are meeting with the Commanding office. Please, come this way...”

Grace Van-Derveld
Jun 18th, 2006, 06:08:05 PM
Morgan, Serena and Byl were led towards a lift by a small escort of three, one Bothan and two humans. It was the Bothan that called in their arrival. "This is Sergeant Bellin. Everything checks out. The young woman that is ill has been taking to medical. We're bringing you the rest."

Excellent. Grace's voice crackled over the comm. See you soon.

Five minutes later of walking down the spotless white corridors of the command ship, Bellin opened up the conference room doors and let the trio enter first. The two humans fell in place as guards outside with Bellin entering last. The two Rebel Agents were already standing and waiting. Grace approached them first, observing the male and female human behind Laprovik. Grace's sabbac face disappeared the moment her eyes registered exactly who the young man was. It was Morgan Evanar. The same human they rescued from Star's End months back. He wasn't their assignment. The Jedi that they had come for had been turned over to the Empire and in order to escape themselves, they had made a deal with a Bimm named Roker: his services if they took Morgan along with them. There was little time to understand why him, so she and Dasquian had to agree to the terms. When they were free of the Corporate Sector, she had asked the young slicer if he wanted to join the cause. A man of his talents would be very useful to the Rebellion. However he had refused to join. Grace never thought she would see him again.

"You?!" She was stunned. "By the Force! How did you manage to run into Laprovik?'

Morgan Evanar
Jun 18th, 2006, 08:10:38 PM
Morgan put his arms up and shrugged. He looked around, as if the explanation might be in the corridor somewhere. This had gone from a situation he wanted to avoid to downright weird.

“I got captured by pirates.” He said, as if that explained everything. The last time he had seen Grace she had been thoroughly engaged in getting him to join the Rebellion, but was not interested. Since then, his life had enough adventure to write a trilogy of novels.

“You’re probably more interested in talking to Laran right now, though. Grace, uh, forgot your last name, this is Serena Laran.” He smiled awkwardly.

Serena Laran
Jun 18th, 2006, 08:30:09 PM
Rhianna and Serena had engaged in a quiet conversation before they had made the hyperspace jump towards the Rebel fleet. The girl had understood that she would most likely be separated from Serena for a short time once they reached their destination. She hadn't been happy with the thought of being alone, but Serena had assured her that she would rejoin her as soon as possible.

The Jedi looked at the two Rebel agents as Morgan attempted to introduce her, and bowed her head in greeting. She had already decided that a direct approach would be appropriate. "Greetings, Grace. I am Serena Laran, Jedi Knight of the Republic."

Byl Laprovik
Jun 18th, 2006, 09:51:24 PM
"That brings me to my reason for being here."

Byl glanced at Serena, crossing his arms.

"Standard order seven. Secure the safety of all Jedi encountered."

It wasn't something that Byl necessarily agreed with, but the Alliance considered the Jedi to be valuable to the war effort.

"Hopefully, with the possibility of mutual cooperation.

It was important enough to break my current assignment."

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 19th, 2006, 04:34:07 AM
Life was full of coincides, peoples paths crossing here and there unexpectedly – hopefully changing things for the better. “Good to meet you, Serena. I'm Dasquian Belargic. Grace and I head-up Alliance Intel... though a lot of our time is spent working with Jedi like yourself, building relations between the two groups. If there is any way that the Alliance can offer assistance to you and your companions, we would be happy to do so.”

Grace Van-Derveld
Jun 19th, 2006, 03:11:16 PM
Grace smiled at Morgan, "It's Van-Derveld," and took a step back, motioning to the free chairs at the conference table. "Please everyone have a seat."

She rounded the table and picked up a datapad to place into Laprovik's hand, "And if you please update us on your progress." He knew what the Agent was referring to. "It's been months after all."

Morgan Evanar
Jun 19th, 2006, 09:21:14 PM
Morgan sat and wiggled the chair back and forth a little before settling into it. This was absurd.

He was here, with a Jedi, with the same people from the Rebellion from the last time he was with a Jedi(?), and the Jedi was joining up. He was here with a girl who didn't speak Basic yet. He was here in a ship four times as old as he was.

Morgan sighed. His skills would be useful to the Rebellion. He still didn't want to join, even though he realized that everyone would be better off without the Empire in the long run, and that the Rebellion had viable leaders for the future. There were enough people shooting at him anyway, what was another group?

Still, this was interesting enough. He would sit quiet while Serena and the Agents talked.

Rhianna
Jun 20th, 2006, 07:39:34 AM
Droids. Rhianna had seen them before, of course. The Tincéir had enough dealings with the strangers that wandered the forest to have encountered them before. She hadn't, until recently in her travels with Sámh, had to attempt speaking to one though. After managing to muddle through explaining who she was, her recent illness was on a recorded file that was transfered over. When it was confirmed that her lapse in health was sufficiently treated and that her immune status was up to standard, she was given the okay to meet up with the rest of her party. The very life like droid showed her to the door and spoke in an all too real voice.

"You are in excellent health Rhianna. Soon you will no longer tire so easily. Back on your feet in no time!" After blinking in confusion at most of the too fast jumbled words, she looked down at her boots.

Wasn't she on them? She'd have to ask Morgan about that one later. She smiled.

"Thank you.." Tossing a little wave to the medic droid, Rhianna was shown to conference room six. She had absolutely no idea what to expect. A part of her wanted to be frightened, but somehow after all that had happened recently, she wasn't afraid of a meeting room. Shrugging, she followed the protocol droid in. The droid went off to assure its leaders that she was fit enough to attend. Rhianna quickly scanned about for a friendly, or at least familiar face. Her eyes went straight to Sámh. Smiling to assure her that she was alright, Rhianna moved towards her mentor and took a seat.

Serena Laran
Jun 20th, 2006, 01:39:02 PM
There were other Jedi! Dasquian had said "a lot of our time is spent working with Jedi like yourself." Serena took a deep breath and let it out slowly as the attention shifted momentarily towards Byl. He looked uncomfortable as Grace handed him a datapad.

The conference room door opened, and a protocol droid entered, followed by a timid Rhianna. Serena smiled at her, and the girl was soon safely in a seat beside the Jedi. She patted the tincéir's hand reassuringly.

"So there are other surviving Jedi?" She addressed Dasquian.

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 20th, 2006, 02:28:51 PM
He noted the new arrival, smiling in greeting. Then addressing Serena's question, Dasquian nodded. Surviving was certainly the right word for it. Those remaining eked out a difficult existence. Already some had been lost to the Empire – Zabian Bal-Wandler was a name that came to mind in such situations. The Jedi Knight had given his life for the Rebellion. It had been a great loss, but one that all had to expect and be prepared for.

“Yes. In fact, Grace and I have only recently returned from meeting with another Jedi Knight like yourself.”

Dasquian glanced towards his partner at this point. It was rare that they would encounter one new Jedi in the space of a month, let alone two.

Grace Van-Derveld
Jun 20th, 2006, 04:08:10 PM
Grace picked up the conversation with ease. It was obviously that the Rebel Agents had work with one another for quite some time. "We've had little success in finding Jedi before the Battle of Endor, but ever since the death of the Emperor and Vader, we've been more successful. Thankfully we were able to help the Jedi Knight, that Dasquian mentioned, escape capture by the Empire."

She didn't want to mention Wyl. He was a very sensitive case and if she was allowed to talk to the Jedi Knight in private, the Agent would bring up that information then.

Morgan Evanar
Jun 20th, 2006, 05:12:24 PM
Morgan was bored. This was Jedi stuff. And Rebellion stuff.

The Care-O-Meter was near the breaking point it was so deep in the negatives. He took out a datapad with the last coordinates before they had gone into deep cover. That put them in orbit above Nar Shadda, and they had been heading to

Carry the six, divide that by eight, take into account Nal Hutta's postion and it's relatively standard gravity field. He occasionally noted an important figure into the pad in case he wasn't sure of his math.

Hrm... he calculated the jump down to the 256th digit, which would be good enough for one to three light-years, depending on how complicated the area was. It wasn't anywhere near Ithor but it would be a good start.

"Six point eight oh oh seven eight oh oh oh by two twenty one point three oh oh six oh one seven seven eight by thirty-two, coreward." he muttered to himself, forgetting where he was and what everyone else was doing.

Byl smiled thinly, thumbing down the datapad before pocketing it. It would need to wait. Half of the stuff wasn't appropriate for their guests to hear.

He sat silent for a bit, and jumped into the tail of the conversation.

"In addition to the Jedi, I've made a contact with a sympathetic privateer named Tomahawk. She..."

Byl glanced at Serena and Morgan.

"...was responsible for this pickup."

Rhianna
Jun 20th, 2006, 09:01:06 PM
At the soft spoken mutter from Morgan, Rhianna covertly tried to look to her side to see what he was going on about. She tried not to laugh. He seemed as bored as she sometimes felt. Although probably not for the same reasons. It was hard to be the only one left out in conversations. She tried to follow what words she did understand, but there were simply too many and she couldn't put them together fast enough to keep flow with any topic. Offering him a look of mock pity she shrugged one shoulder and tried once more to follow the meeting.

She thought she picked up a feeling from Sámh. She also understood enough to know that they were discussing other of what Sámh had refered to as the Jedai. They were her people and she must be finding out something important regarding them to be so intent upon the conversation.

Jun 20th, 2006, 10:31:44 PM
The Alliance agents were momentarily focused on Byl when Morgan started mumbling. Serena picked up the string of numbers, glanced down at his datapad, and then back to his eyes. He seemed half asleep. Bored, even.

It appeared that he had just computed the coordinates for a hyperspace jump, in his head, in the space of a few minutes. She blinked.

It did not appear that anyone else had picked up on his words, and she abruptly cleared her throat to draw attention back to herself. "Tomahawk was a Clone War general. I am not familiar with her military background, but she was in charge of my last official mission. Well," Serena amended, "I was in charge, but very young."

She smiled at the Rebels, and indicated Morgan and Rhianna. "Would it be all right if Morgan took Rhianna for a walk? It will do her good to stretch her legs, and I'm sure that Mr. Evanar could use a break as well. The journey has not been easy, for any of us."

Dasquian Belargic

“By all means, have a wander. It's pretty difficult to get lost.”

Dasquian smiled at Morgan and Rhianna, the later of whom seemed to be having difficulty following the conversation, while the former simply wasn't interested – understandably so. The pair stood to leave, allowing those still present to continue their discussion.

“A Clone War General,” Belargic mused aloud. “She had no interest in accompanying you all here?”

Morgan Evanar
Jun 24th, 2006, 04:07:09 PM
"Hooray." Morgan said with a grin as soon as the door hissed shut behind them.

"I've never been on a Nebulon-B" Rhianna looked confused "which is this type of ship before." He explained.

"Lets see if we can find the dining hall. I'm hungry." he said in Rhianna's tounge.

Rhianna
Jun 25th, 2006, 10:44:05 AM
Rhianna wished she could have stayed and understood the meeting. She was going to have to double her efforts at learning Basic if she wanted to be included. Still, if she couldn't follow the words there wasn't much point in staying. She was certain that Sámh would let her know about anything important. She was glad that Morgan was going to walk about with her, though.

"Food sounds good. Did I understand correctly, Sámh has found others like her? Other Jedai?"

She fought the urge to apologize. She was sure that Morgan had been bored with the proceedings, but she hadn't meant to get them dismissed. She didn't like being a burden, but until she learned to speak their words, she was very limited to who she could communicate with.

Byl leaned back in his seat, studying the faces across the room.

"We can probably still play this our way. Sometimes it pays to have muscle without direct ties to us."

Serena's left eyebrow twitched at Byl's words. Jamie Tomahawk had seemed intent to fly her entire fleet right into the Rebels, and she wasn't sure what Byl was up to by hiding the fact that he had had to dissuade the General from doing so.

Of course, she hadn't intended to sign up with the Rebellion once she'd gotten here: she was going to demand answers and probably start an incident that would make an alliance impossible. Serena sat quietly, wondering about Morgan, and about the Jedi Knight that Belargic had mentioned.

Dasquian Belargic

“She'll come to us when she's ready and willing. There's no sense in pressuring her. In the meanwhile, though, if there's any information you could provide on this General Tomahawk, we'd be interested to see it.” People needed their freedom of choice. It was no use trying to force them into a partnership with the Alliance from the outset. Small, slow steps were necessary.

“That aside,” Dasquian looked now towards Serena, “... if you'd like, we can try and organize a time for you to meet with our newest Jedi contact. I can't guarantee that they'll agree to it, but I suppose it's worth a try, right?”

Grace hoped that Nytherciria would be receptive to their communication. She welcomed the chance to train Wyl and protect the boy, but trying to contact her so soon since rescuing her might be pushing their luck. Still, the Spy hoped that the Knight would be agreeable. It would be nice to see Wyl again.

"Not yet, but the Alliance knows of another. The might be arranging something." Morgan was following his sense of smell. The straight, simple corridors made for little interesting movement, unlike the graceful, sweeping ones of a MonCal ship. Rebels looked at them with slight unease and twice as much hope. After all, everyone had been informed that there would be guests on the ship.

The mess was empty at the moment. Morgan sniffed intently, seeking out something edible, and, failing that, sealed rations. The heaters at the counter had no trace of food. The crew must have been on rations for at least a week, and he couldn't smell any. Discourged, he took a seat and sighed.

"I think they've got the food under lock."

Rhianna

Sliding into the seat across from Morgan, Rhianna pulled her legs up into the seat with her and crossed them. She didn't get the impression that these people would lock up their food, just to be stingy. If it was locked up, there was likely a good reason. She was a little hungry, but she would be alright. She had made it through famine, when the forests had been critically depleted by the strangers that swarmed her home. She had also been surviving harsh elements and little food every year in the barren season, since she was a child.

She attempted to try out some of her new words, supplementing with her own when she drew a blank. The mixture of the two languages seemed to work for her luckily. "Well, it would seem if nothing else, these rebels will be able to help Sámh."

Self-consciously, she tugged at an auburn curl. Dropping her voice, Rhianna sounded apologetic. "What about you? I know that none of this is what you had expected. My sickness, being boarded by pirates, and now this. It does seem a bit much when you were just supposed to have transportation. You must be ready to jump ship by now, figuratively speaking, of course.."

Serena nodded to Dasquian, "I would like to meet this Jedi very much." If they even were true Jedi. One would have to be crazy to claim the name without anything to back it up, however, but it was all too easy to succumb to the Dark side of the Force. Especially on your own, on the run.

She looked at both of the spies, and added, "Do you wish to authenticate my claim?" It was odd that no one had doubted her when she said she was a Jedi, and she wondered how many of the 'Jedi' that had been discovered were even Force sensitive.

“If you'd like.”

Neither Dasquian nor Grace had raised the issue. It was rare that anyone claimed to be a Jedi, either falsely or truthfully, given the stigma of the title. That aside, given the years worth of field experience both agents had, they had developed a keen eye for spotting fakes and liars. In this case, Dasquian believed the woman sat before him was neither.

“The girl... Rhianna? Where does she fit in all of this?”

She raised an eyebrow, but did not further the discussion of proof. If they wanted they would probably be able to find her in an old database later.

"Rhianna is a native of RX-271, where I lived in exile until just recently. It was the will of the Force that I bring her with me - she is also Force sensitive."

"Ah," mused the Agent and continued to take notes, "We will update our systems accordingly. What about Morgan? I'm not sure what he has told you of himself but Agent Belagric and I rescued him from Star's End when a lead to find another Jedi fizzled. He was incarcerated for slicing, amongst other things that the Corporate Sector labeled him with. We attempted to get him on board for the Rebellion but obviously that didn't happen."

Morgan Evanar

Morgan shrugged. After years of slicing, it seemed the universe was telling him to do something else. The reality was that he had nowhere to go, so he stuck along for the ride.

"I'm not sure. I was, but it seems like you and Serena need my help." He didn't mention that the longer he stayed off planets the better his chances of avoiding Black Sun's bounty hunters. He needed to tell Serena when the Galaxy stopped dumping insanity on their laps. He figured she had enough to worry about right now.

It was true. They did need him. Things seemed to have changed greatly while Sámh had been in hiding. Rhianna would adapt fine on her own, but she wondered how her mentor would find the changes. They were lucky Morgan was a good person, or they could have met with a lot more trouble.

"I'm greatful you are with us, for however long." With a smile, she rested her elbows on the table and propped her chin up in her hands, already getting tired. She wasn't in danger of falling asleep, just a bit sluggish.

"So who are these people, the rebels?"

Grace set the datapad down and looked at the Jedi squarely in the eye, "We keep track of Jedi and their movements as best as we can. Which isn't easy considering your talents. It's important to our mission to do this incase we find Force Sensitives that need guidance. The Alliances surely isn't equipped in teaching the ways of the Force. Also, our database has been instrumental in informing us when the Empire has come close in locating other Jedi. We've been able to make sure that doesn't happen... Most of the time."

Her thoughts returned to Zabian Bal-Wandler, one of the Jedi they weren't able to rescue in time.

“They’re people who oppose the current government, which was, as stereotypical and odd as it sounds, ruled by an evil old man who didn’t like aliens very much. During the Clone Wars about 30 years ago, he was granted emergency powers and just expanded them like a Hutt at a hundred year all you can eat buffet.” The analogy sailed over Rhianna’s head. Lucky for her, she had no experience with Hutts.

“He took over the government. There were many who were not pleased, and the former ruling body was gradually stripped of its power over those thirty years. Five years ago, I think, the old ruling body was disposed of completely, and the opposition, the Rebellion grew. Then the Emperor blew up a planet that was very poplar and peaceful. The Rebellion swelled after the planet-slaying device was destroyed by them.”

“Recently the Emperor died and right now most people are convinced the Rebels and the Imperials are pretty evenly matched, although it’s been months since either has struck a decisive blow.”

“And that is the shortest of summaries that can be made regarding Galactic politics over the past 30 years.” He finished in Basic.

“Well, there is no food to be found. I hope Serena is about done.” Morgan wasn’t about to start snooping around the ship. He didn’t need another organization mad at him because he had read something incriminating or important.

She was glad she had been so sheltered on her remote planet. However she somehow knew that even distance would not have stopped the Imperials from taking what they wanted. Was that who had attacked her family? She would have to ask Sámh that question. She trusted Morgan, but didn't know that she wanted to go into painful detail about how she had wound up with the Jedi. Too soon to talk about it and to be honest she was still feeling humilated and helpless over the whole affair.

Frowning at her own turn of thoughts, she realized she was wrinkling up her brow. "Sorry.. Too much on my mind I suppose."

"Should we return..?"

She nodded, "A wise plan, Agent Van-Derveld."

Serena looked at the two spies across from her, and felt comfortable. The Alliance, or at least these two members, had nothing but good intentions when it came to the surviving Jedi. Though how they would be able to help her remained to be seen.

"I am sure you wish to debrief your agent," she looked at Byl, "And I would like to rest if that would be all right."

Things were going well. After speaking with Byl, they would hopefully be able to touch base with Nytherciria again and have her meet with Serena. She seemed calm and collected, more so than Daria. Exposing Wyl to the Jedi Knight could only have a positive effect, Dasquian thought.

“Hooray.” He said, and issued a lopsided smile. He and Rhianna matched Serena’s pace, and then he drooped his long arms over their shoulders. Serena raised an eyebrow. For once, Morgan looked relaxed.

“I take it that went well. They keep all of the food locked up, by the way.” For whatever reason, he was feeling pretty good about the whole thing, even though he hadn’t had anything to eat in longer than he liked.

“So what happened?” He asked, desperate to know something. It was ironic, considering he didn’t want to be present 10 minutes ago.

Keeping up with the faster, long-legged strides of her Jedi mentor and Morgan was something of a tip-toed sprint for Rhianna. She peeked around Morgan and remained quiet, not wishing to interrupt.

At that moment, the conference room doors slid open. One of our tech teams was testing out the gravity well generator we, ah, recovered at Endor... and without meaning to, they've pulled a freighter out of hyperspace. The two Agents stood up and when Laprovik began to, Grace held up her hand. "We'll take care of our guests. We really need that report so we can assess where to send you next."

Dasquian and Grace made their way down to the hangar bay that the Layla was going to be pulled into.

There was a lot of confusion going on around the medical bed that James had been strapped into. Loklorien hadn't moved from her side since resuscitating her when the Layla had escaped the backwater planet they'd been visiting.

She was barely aware of what was going on. A jolt sent pain across her injured skin, and there was a lot of shouting going on above them in the cockpit. James slipped back into unconsciousness.

Byl stewed for a bit, his face screwing up in pent-up frustration as the door closed behind him.

He took the pad, and began to type up his brief. In short, it involved financing black market smugglers in the Hyfa corridor to charter much needed aid supplies to Hallicon and Typho. The populations had been cut off from regular trade by heightened imperial presence in the area.

Off the record, Byl inventoried some "other supplies", including several crates of Imperial weapons that were seized and re-routed from captured ships at Endor. Some arms were taken by the smugglers for their own defense, and others were sold to the Cizerack Pride and the Bothans for collateral to finance the operation.

He'd planned to return to Typho to set up the resistance cell, but that would be delayed. He had more pressing issues on Coruscant, which he neglected to mention to his superiors.

"Hang on down there, I think we found company."

The ships looked like light warships of varying type and age. It wasn't anything polished-up, and didn't look to be Imperial.

"Maybe some mercenaries....or rebels."

I tentatively opened a channel to the lead frigate.

"This is the freighter Layla. We need medical attention for a member of our crew."

Morgan winced as the initial klaxon echoed through the corridor. Damn that’s loud. Red lights pulsed gently. He took a deep breath.

“Battle stations.” The officer on duty’s voice was cool and certain. Crew ahead in the corridor scrambled for whatever their assigned station was.

“We have an unidentified light freighter, no markings. Prepare for a possible hyperspace jump.” The voice followed up ten seconds later. Morgan was certain the bridge was a very busy place right now.

“I hope Byl didn’t sell us out.” Morgan said, slightly irritated at the thought.

"Yeah, these guys seem like just our sort of good samaritans."

Hopping up from the controls the instant they cooled down, I slid down the ladder from the pilothouse.

However, if they were Jedi hunters, she'd rather know as soon as possible. And Serenity was in hangar 2C, with Rhianna asleep inside it.

Arriving at the hangar, she spotted Agent Van-Derveld and walked over. No one tried to stop her as everyone's attention was on the freighter that had just landed. "Unexpected company, Agents?" Serena nodded greeting to Agent Belargic.

The Lupine felt nothing at first, stepping back to follow after Sanis. It wasn't until her bare feet hit the decking of the main bay that she felt it. Nothing quite so sudden, but it was a feeling that tickled ever so lightly at the back of her neck. Her head canted to the side, and she stood motionless.

It had been so long since her only contact with a Force-user was one not of the Dark, that she had to pause momentarily.

And ever so tentatively, the Lupine crept out with her mind, opening it just a little bit more. So guarded had she become over her countless years of solitude, that to come across another Jedi was almost a wholly new experience.

s'Il's bare feet shifted upon the cool decking of the hangar bay, and she took the smallest of steps back.

It was her; this woman was the one. The Lupine cast her eye down, suddenly very self-conscious for no real reason that she could think of. Reservation and not a little timidness replaced her previous curiosity at having found another Lightsider, and she remembered what Dan had said about there being others. She knew he was right, but she had always thought that there were so few left; two Jedi meeting in such times was something she never imagined it to actually happen.

The girl gripped her hand loosely, and Serena smoothed her hair away from her soot darkened face. "I will not leave you, child." She was young, about the same age she had been when she was raised to Knight.

"Do we know her name?" A nurse was entering notes into a datapad.

"Her name is James." Serena thought for a moment. "Prent. James Prent." The girl moaned, and was quickly transferred off the gurney. The Jedi stayed by her side. "If I may stay - I can be of help to you."

The doctor nodded, and pointed to a place she could stand and not be in the way. "If you can keep her calm, Madam Jedi. We have to insert the breathing tubes and prepare her for the tank." A medical droid was bending over the girl, a strange apparatus in hand.

Serena nodded, but moved to the head of the bed they'd placed James on, putting her hands on either side of her head. She was tense - frightened. Probably a residual effect from the trauma she'd endured. Gently Serena soothed her mind, relaxing her body so the breathing tube could be placed down her throat with little difficulty.

Droids and nurses were carefully removing the most badly damaged skin - mostly on her extremities - while the doctor prepped one of the bacta tanks. The dress the girl was wearing was cut away and discarded.

"Lets move, people! I want her in there before we make the jump!" The doctor hurried over again, gently but swiftly applying bacta directly on the worst of the burns.

"The jump?" Serena queried.

She didn't know what to say, and so the Lupine said nothing. Instead, she found herself gazing back at the man who'd just spoken. s'Il met his eye with a curious look in her own; it seemed as though he was studying her or at least trying to piece together some puzzle that only he knew of.

What that was though she could only guess. He didn't look familiar, and she hadn't been too terribly long departed from Cathar. Unless he'd visited in the many years she'd been there,it had to be something else,

Her own eyes became studious then, as she recognized the look he was giving her. It was one of mild recognition; not of her specifically, but of something else. He knew; and just like Sanis, he seemed to be avoiding using the word out loud.

The Lupine turned her head once more to look in the direction that the red-headed woman had gone with James before turning back to lock her eye with his once more.

Her lips moved in a whisper then, her voice barely audible even to Sanis.

"She's a Jedi."

I spun on a heel away from Lok, biting my lower lip before I could curse. She'd complicated our situation a hundredfold with that last line.

"Captain?" The Agent quirked a brow at the odd exchange between Sanis and the woman. Needless to say, something was afoot but she didn't sense an ulterior motive against the Rebellion. "We need to see identification and look over your ship. With your permission of course."

But she had to make sure.

"Why?"

I looked from Grace to Dasquian, and then to Byl. I really didn't like the direction this was going. I may have come for medical help, but I didn't appreciate having to fall in with somebody else's prying eyes.

He heard something exchanged between the two of them, and had an inkling of what she said. It was the word he had been avoiding when mentioning Serena.

"You and Serena probably should talk after your friend is stable." He said to s'Ilancy, playing on a hunch.

“It's standard procedure, nothing to worry about... you can, of course, accompany our agents during the search. It won't take long.” Dasquian smiled apologetically.

The Lupine was silent, and only offered an absent nod at Morgan's words. Her feet shifted on the decking, feeling the cool metal beneath her toes. Somehow, it felt rather... clean.

"Maybe it would help if you told me what you were looking for."

The skin at my jawline became taut as the situation descended into the standoffish. I'd never really cozied up to any authority, much less one that flexed its muscles at will.

The captain's attitude wasn't one unfamiliar to Dasquian. If he had been in Sanis' situation, he doubted he would have taken kindly to someone trying to rifle through his possessions. The search wouldn't be invasive as Prent expected.
