Nintendo has released the price of its Wii. No more than 25,000 Yen which apparently roughly translates to $222 or £120.
Compare that with the PS3 price of around 3 or 4 times as much as that thats an extreamly good price point!
Ive visited a few games forums and Wii is the buzz word at the moment. Its the most exciting system, the cheapest system and I havent heard anyone say they wouldnt consider getting one.
Id still like to have a go before getting one. Im interested to see how well it works.

First of all, love the title. Secondly, this is awesome news. Thirdly, I will most definately be getting a Wii.

I think it's great how the discussion has gone from suggesting that Nintendo was 'shooting itself in the foot' with the Wii, to praising it and eagerly awaiting its release! Well done, Nintendo :) Said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm a Nintendo girl at heart – you can always count on them for something fun and fresh.

It's still a pretty dumb name. :) But glad to hear the price is going to fall right along the lines of what everyone was estimating.
edit:
Microsoft's Peter Moore was quoted saying recently that "People are going to buy two [machines]. They're going to buy an Xbox 360 and they're going to buy a Wii... for the price of one PS3... People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid.", to which Sony's Phil Harrison replied "I think Peter Moore is exactly right, Nintendo [Wii] will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3". :rolleyes

Say the following out loud Jenny:
"I'm gonna go play with my Wii."
Game, set, match. ;)
I never downed Nintendo's ingenuity in console design, but their marketing tactics are... perhaps a little too innovative. I too am eagerly awaiting its release.

I never knocked Nintendo for the direction they decided to go with the console, I was simply stunned I suppose is the word. Im very interested to see how well it works. I have to admit I was completely un-impressed by the name when I first heard it, but its a grower. The amount of tag lines you can have from the name!
I think it was an incredibly smart move. They caught everyones attention with the ridiculous name, but it meant that people have taken note of the console and now everyone is talking about it more than the 360 and PS3 put together.

I just don't see how Sony plans to market the PS3 at such a high price. Only the most dedicated gamers are going to chuck out that much money. No doubt it is the most impressive system, but the $222 price tag on the Wii surely distracts.

Actually, that's part of the problem. I haven't heard a single neutral developer say that the PS3 is any better than the 360 at all.

I think Sony is going to face heavy losses. I'm not big on the Xbox, never owned the original and never played a 360. I may look into buying one at the end of the summer when I go off to college. Or I may wait on the Wii.

I own an Xbox and its pretty impressive. Im not a fan on how the console looks but in terms of performance I have to say I like it. Plus with Microsofts money they can afford to have some important exclusive titles which is probably the biggest factor when choosing a console. Which one has the games you want to play?
The 360 improves on the Xbox. From what ive heard, there isnt a noticable difference between the graphics of the PS3 and 360 so given the price difference, 360 looks like better value for money.
I think if the Wii comes out before PS3, and 360 has a price drop (which I expect) then Playstation could find themselves in some trouble. Apparently Sony have had a reasonably bad time of it lately and are depending on the PS3's success too. There's no doubt it will sell well at first but I can see that tailing off sharply. Look at the PSP, the DS has basically wiped the floor with it.

I think the 360 may be worth buying simply for the Halo games. I've never played one but my friends love them and some are addicted. I would like the PS3 for MGS4 though.
