Yes, yes I am. I am still here, just a little preoccupied. University has started again. I have exams at the end of the month. The sun is shining. People have birthdays. Please excuse me :)

I have a job now. I am going to be working on the bar at the Students Union for my University. There was a big group interview this past weekend, where we had to do things like make spiders out of newspaper :lol ..then I had a little mini interview and obviously impressed the guys, since I got a callback yesterday offering me a place :cool eeeyyy :thumbup

It was a great ice-breaker activity and a good chance to show off communication/leadership skills. It was just a shame that we had to use copies of the Student Newspaper! After all the effort the writers put in, you'd think they'd want people reading the paper, rather than having it turned into spiders!

I'm sure you read it while you were forming spidery legs and such. Right? ;)
That's great news - hopefully it will be a zillion times better than your last job.

They took £10 off my first paycheck and said I would get that back when I handed the uniform in, if/when I left. I'm not that bothered about getting that tenner back ^_^;
I am trying ot get a place on the "welcome week" team too - as one of the people who helps out the new students in their first week here :D

Just a wee update: I got the job! I am going in for training next Tuesday! At last. I was starting to worry that I would never get started, which was making me anxious because I need the money to pay rent, since I am... *dun dun* Moving out! On June 21st. I suppose this can serve as a little FYI that I might not be around for a bit after that, whilst we get our internet set up and everything.

It's exciting. I can't wait to move out... providing I don't die before then. I have had this really bad cough lately, which has morphed into something worse. I am in constant pain... I feel like someone is ramming a needle between my ribs, into my left lung. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning, thankfully. Until then I am just going to have to survive by snorting lines of paracetamol and doing shots of this medicine that tastes like sambuca. Providing I survive this stabby thing, I will make sure to take pics of my new room, where I actually have SPACE. Space to put things, would you believe it. And five housemates. :D

I thought I just had pharyngitis again, which I got at the start of summer last year... but then I was coughing up blood and almost vomiting from coughing so much. It was horrible. And now I can't cough at all, despite needing to, because obviously all this coughing has done some kind of extra damage inside me :cry

Nah, we tried to get an appointment today but it was too late :( And yes you are right, looking stuff up is freaking me out. I am just worried. This pain just came totally out of nowhere, and it is constantly there. I have been taking painkillers but it's not having any effect :cry

May 25th, 2006, 08:49:14 AM
poor thing!!! :( I think you need to go to an E.R or something. There's got to be a doctor or someone that will help you. You should not be hurting that much and waiting til tomorrow is just not good. Please go take care of yourself.

I did fracture a rib coughing when I had pneumonia. It's possible. Please take care of yourself, explain to the doc its a TODAY thing, not a wait until tomorrow thing.

Yes. I fought for an appointment at my doctor's office last week.. you should too. You're suffering and it's their job to make room for you, not the other way around.

My mum should be home soon. Maybe I can convince her to take me tonight. I don't know what time our surgery closes though... They did say that we might have been able to get an appointment today, but it would have meant us going and sitting there all-day until someone missed their appointment or whatever.

Well I saw the doctor and she said that I had just torn or sprained a muscle. She just told me to apply a lot of heat to it and ride it out.
Fiona Devlin
May 26th, 2006, 05:57:50 AM
I'm not a doctor, but that doesn't sound like a good way to treat a muscle if it's torn. :/
Dasquian Belargic
May 26th, 2006, 06:11:44 AM
It must just be a little tear, I guess. She said it's nothing to worry about. Applying this heat rub stuff to it does actually make the pain go away.
Apparently it will take a week+ for it to be fully healed though.
Razielle Alastor
May 26th, 2006, 06:13:14 AM
I agree. Torn muscles need to be treated with alternating heat and ice. If its a small tear, if not it needs more agressive treatment. I worked in the OR doncha know. ;)
At any rate, that sounds like treating the symptom not the cause. What about what started it all? Did the doc say anything about your cough? What about the blood?
Fiona Devlin
May 26th, 2006, 06:14:21 AM
good to know, but let's see what our resident nurse thinks about it. :)
Dasquian Belargic
May 26th, 2006, 06:18:27 AM
She said the cough was a result of a chest infection which was clearing up from the sounds of this - this is true, I'm not coughing as much anymore.
The blood thing only happened a couple of times, I guess because of coughing lots/hard in a short space of time.
What started the pain was, she said, my spraining the muscle or whatever through coughing too much. She said it's not all that uncommon.

I tore a muscle too... heat is the best thing for it.
And if it was an infection ... why arent you on antibiotics? O_o just because the symptoms are going away doesnt mean the little bacteria bastards are gone

There is a lump on my ribs... :( My mum just called my aunt, who is a nurse, and she thinks I might have a Hernia. We are going down to the doctors again today.

They did a bunch of blood tests and nothing came up (the Doctor thought, at first, that maybe there was something going on with my spleen). She said that the lump has probably always been there and I'm only noticing it now because of the muscle sprain. The official verdict is to wait a week, to allow the muscle to heal, and if it's still this uncomfortable, then to go back to my GP. We spent 4 hours at the hospital... what a waste of time.

Finished my first year of uni yesterday. Last exam went... okay, I think. The questions were pretty awkward, but at least it's over and done with now. I went in for "training" at work after that. It turns out that I probably won't get any shifts there over the summer, because the union is largely closed until September :( So I'm going to have to get another job on top of this one.
They did give us a couple of shifts for this week though. I am having to miss a friends birthday party to work tonight, since it was either today or tomorrow you had to work - and tomorrow I am at a gig in the evening. Then I am working on Friday from 10.30am til 7pm, during this all-day drinking "survival" party that's being thrown, for the last day of the year. I think it's going to be pretty hectic!
