Samuel L Jackson, on a plane, with snakes.

According to IMDB: Samuel L. Jackson only signed on for this film because the title was "Snakes on a Plane". When the film makers tried to change it to "Flight 121", Jackson was adamant to keep it "Snakes on a Plane".

Am I the only one who thinks this is gonna stink? I don't know - Sam Jackson is da man, but the whole premise of this movie sounds retarded, and the snakes in the trailer looked way too CG to be believable.

Oh definately :D I highly doubt the movie is going to take itself seriously at all, which is what's going to make it so funny.

You know, for the longest time I thought this was just some crazy internet joke, but I have recently come to the reality that while implausible as all get-out, this is, in fact, a real movie.

Samuel L. Jackson headlines a cast of other people we've never heard of in what could possibly be thre greatest movie of our generation.

Snakes on a *censored, but trademark SLJ phrase* Plane.

And, there's even a tee shirt. http://topatoco.com/artwork/snakes-aa-big.gif

I used to complain that Hollywood hadn't been caring much lately, but, snakes on a plane, man, snakes on a plane.

EDIT-- Dang you all! You beat me to my punch!

Hollywood seems to want to just feed us crap, but, snakes on a plane, man, snakes on a plane.

I know of very few actors other than SLJ who could have as much fun doing that schlock, yet still come away with his reputation as an actor completely unblemished.

He's completely terrified of snakes. I mean, to the point that it's more than a phobia.

I feel for him. I had a close encounter with a big bull snake when I was 4... the thing was about 6 to 8 feet long and about 5 to 6 inches in diameter, much bigger than my punny little hand was... =O

I was a teenager before I could touch a photo of a snake. And if caught off guard I will fall into an uncontrolable epileptic fit of the willies if I see one.

My friend's dad had a huge phobia of snakes. This was a big, huge grizzly bear of a man, and we caught a skinny, short garden snake and put him in the bucket we used to wash the car. We asked the dad if he could go over and get the bucket for us. Well you should have seen this man squeal like a little 5 year old girl and run right into the house. It was hysterical.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/23/film.snakes.reut/index.html
Chris Rohan of Bethesda, Maryland, created an elaborate, R-rated audio trailer that lovingly mocks the title and movie. "It's a genius title," Rohan said. "It's so stupid it's great. It invites satire, but it's something you just love. It's something I can't explain. You either get it or you don't."

The audio bit uses a Jackson sound-alike shouting, "I want these mother------- snakes off the mother------- plane!" Soon, the growing legion of fans added their voices as they demanded that that phrase also appear in the movie.

Apparently, the studio got the hint. When Ellis assembled Jackson and others for the recent shoot, the filmmakers added more gore, more death, more nudity, more snakes and more death scenes. And they shot a scene where Jackson does utter the line that fans have demanded.Lots of other interesting tidbits in that article, so check it out.

Possible Snakes on a Plane Sequels

A fella working at a film company, whose job is to search the MPAA's title registry for conflicts, has found some titles that seem to imply the possibility of a Snakes on a Plane sequel. Here's the list:

Snakes on a Boat
Snakes on a Train
Snakes on a Plane 2
More Snakes on a Plane
Snakes in Space

I don't know why they'd even consider Snakes on a Train. If anything, that's a step backwards from having snakes on a plane. If you have snakes on a train, you just stop the train, get off, clear out the snakes, get back on the train. "Snakes on a train" is an equivalent threat to "bee in your car." Clearly your winner here is Snakes in Space. When an astronaut mistakes a snake for his urine tube, you'll see why.

When I saw X3 and the trailer started playing something like 30% of the theater started clapping and yelling. The friends I went with were really confused and didn't seem to get why it was so amusing. Snakes. On. A. Plane. What's so hard to understand? :( I need new friends.

And that is precisely why I can't abide the impending arrival of this intelligence insult. It infuriates me that up and coming directors and screen writers have to fight tooth and nail to get their films off the ground when along comes an actor of charisma who is now most cherished for his use of a swear word and what does he use his status to do? He jumps onboard a film whose premise is the title and completely mundane. Everytime I've asked someone what interests them about this film, their answer, unsuprisingly, is:

"Oh my God, man, it's like... Snakes.... on a plane! Snakes... on a plane!"

They say it twice as if it adds weight to their argument and I find it sad that a film like this generates so much enthusiasm amongst cinema goers. Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinions and tastes but those of us who don't share them would at least like a more satisfying and convincing answer to why they are so enthused by this film other than "it's snakes... on a plane". Everytime I get such a response it only serves to multiply my loathing of it. There. Rant over. Believe me, I've kept it quite short and bitter but I've been wanting to get this out for ages.

I think it appeals to people because a) it's absurd, and b) it has Samuel L. Jackson. It's not going to be a ground-breaking piece of film, or anything to get your brain going, but I can imagine it will be fun none the less. I just find the idea of Sam Jackson beating up snakes on a plane so ludicrous, and out of left field, that its really funny. ^_^;

My feelings exactly. I really can't wait, I'm just looking forward to 90 minutes or so of sheer unadulterated goofy rollicking camp, which is something that we all need every now and then. My sister had heard nothing about it a couple of months ago, and once I told her about it, she Googled everything she could about it, and now she can't wait either. :D

As for the possible sequel titles...Snakes in Space wins, hands down. :lol

Some friends of mine blew off steam at the end of last semester by brainstorming ideas for "Black Hamlet in Space". Clearly we're ahead of our time.

As far as snakes goes, the entire premise is utterly ludicrous, strung together by only a shoestring of logic. Coincidentally, that same formula made "Army of Darkness" a cult classic, so there you go.

Cobra Starship is a side project of Midtown vocalist, Gabe Saporta. It seems a little weird/planned that they be titled Cobra Starship at the same time they will be featured on the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack. But thats not why I’m writing about them.

Instead I’m talking about their new song, Snakes on a Plane (Bring It), which is an amazing collaborative peice of work. The song features, Gabe Saporta (obviously), William Becket of The Academy Is…, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, and Maja Ivarsson of the Sounds.

This song also changed my mind on William Becket of the Academy Is… I’ve really dislike him and his band since I saw them with Panic! at the Disco, a little while ago, and they were absolutly terrible (both PAtD! and TAI…). But he’s really a lot better in this. This song also made me rediscover my fandom of Travis from Gym Class Heroes.

I'd cite where I got the quote from, but the title would set off the censor.

There was a competition whereby bands could submit songs to get onto the soundtrack. I think it's pretty cool, the amount of public influence and involvement that the movie has had :)

I went to see it last night. It was a lot of fun. Nothing that will win any awards but i wasn't expecting a Spielberg masterpiece or even a brilliantly-detailed Cameron film. It was simply a lot of fun.

I have to admit I was wondering when Mr. Jackson was going to deliver his immortal 'Mother@&%$er!' but it was way into the film when he finally give in. And I howled with laughter as he said it twice in one sentence. I think one of the things that made it entertaining was seeing how people were dealing with the situation, including Sam Jackson - I was wondering whether or not he'd lose his cool.

On a side note, I'd advise people with weak stomachs not to go see this movie - there are some pretty nasty gratuitous scenes in there.

Will I go see it again?

No.

Will I buy the DVD?

Maybe - I'll wait and see what Disc 2 holds.

I'd recommend people with low expectations to go see it (like you, Droo). I wasn't looking forward to it at all but found myself really enjoying it.

Also got the trailer for 'Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny' which looks like a lotta fun too. Rock on, doods!"

I did see it today, and I literally was the first person in line. There were only about 8 other people in the theater with me, and all of us had come alone except for a couple (I think it was a mom and her teenage son) who came together. So it was pretty quiet in the theater. But I loved it, absolutely loved it.

As long as you go in with expections like I did, that what you were about to see was pure unadulterated over the top nutty as a fruitcake gratuitously violent cheese, then you won't be disappointed. Shakespeare it ain't, but it never presents itself that way. I loved the fact that it had every cliche you could think of--a baby, a yappy little dog, two kids who'd never flown alone before, the flight attendant on her last flight, honeymooners, a singing star, idiots aspiring to join the mile high club--and still managed to be so much fun. From the moment when the oxygen masks were deployed and the snakes fell on everyone, I had this huge :D on my face that didn't go away until the movie was over. Awesomely tasty cheese indeed. :thumbup
