Well, Mark's got his own thread, and so does everyone else, it seems like, so, now here's one for me and Mongoose Ink., my design company.

I'll try to post finished pieces here when I can, but I think my sketches will still go in Ze Art Thread.

I'll get things rolling with my first samurai armor picture in over four years. Tried a new method of coloring on this one and I'm very happy.

Sakai Jironato, second son of a swordsmith, dons his father's armor on the day he is accepted by the Hazakuro clan as a minor sword instructor at the age of seventeen.

:thumbup he looks even better with a head. :D

The amount of detail you put into your finished pieces is amazing - the background is great, the sash is terrific - not to mention all the tiny bits that really make it pop. Like the rope holding the pieces of his armour on.

A masterful followup to your first Samurai piece :)

The armgaurds and the sash are my favorite bits. Aaaargh you make me jealous!

And, my next piece, Derrer and Roland.

<img src=http://www.nehantish.com/D-and-R-done.jpg>

http://www.nehantish.com/D-and-R-done.jpg

Roland, the 6'3, 280 pound beaver, learns the hard way that Derrer, the 4'11", 99 pound lop rabbit, hates to be called short.

Derrer might be a little guy, but he's got one heck of a chip on his shoulder about his stature, and he'll go off on anyone he darn well pleases. Though I wager right now Roland is wondering just how far he can toss the bunny.

I'm so glad I finally finished this one. It's been a sketch for over a year now, and I always loved it. Feels great to have it done.

Khendon Sevon
Mar 24th, 2006, 08:19:34 PM
Anatomy and coloring are both awesome. Only thing that bothered me at first was Derrer's hand. It appears almost as if it were coming out of his mouth :)

Mitch
Mar 24th, 2006, 09:01:42 PM
An unfortunate necessity, really. I tried to make sure you could see as much of the rest of his arm leading up to the hand, but, the angle needed for dramatic effect put his hand at just the wrong spot in correlation to his mouth.

Well, I went to the Emerald City ComiCon today in Seattle, and who was there but the amazing Brom! Talked to him for a while, then went off and did some doodling while looking like Kevin Smith, then came back and he took a look at it, liked some things, and suggested some others, so I worked on it and came up with this:

<img src=http://www.nehantish.com/Vol-II-Cover-Sketch.jpg>

Sketch for the cover of N'duk the Hunter: Volume II. Scene is taken from my story "Gears of the Masters."

Good lord I'm jealous. What's Brom like? I've always like his stuff - selectively of course, but there's no denying the man has some serious talent.

II like the start of this new cover. About the only thing Ive got a problem with is N'duk's lower body; his right leg looks a little flat.

Mitch

Still need to work on his legwork.

Brom is a great guy, very friendly, and very humble.

Finally got a scan back from the person I drew this for. His style is so cartoony, I had to give him something fun in our trade, so I drew his marten character in N'duk's kilt, and gave him Conan's sword and headband, too. And sneakers for the fun of it. Brush pen and Prisma markers.

Well, due to some strange space/time anaomaly, I somehow missed ever reading Jeff Smith's wonderful and epic comic "Bone" until my cousin loaned me the complete book last night.

Five minutes in, I knew I had to do this.

So, here is N'duk Bone and some of the Rat Creatures in Bone style.

Okay. I've just made it out of the hospital after my Khendon/Zereth-inflicted burns... :p

I love that last one. Regardless of the image itself, the blonde guy's outfit looks spiffy. Its got a "Cowboys in Space" feel to it, almost. You've got your cowboy with his pistol, and his little Indian friend with the darts. :)

Just out of curiosity (feel free to shoot me if its a stupid question), but does the "backwards 7" in the background represent anything in particular, or is it just there to look funky? I half expect to see it shoot off to the right, with the title of the series and a picture of their ship underneath it, or something.

Maybe Furball XL5? ;)

okay second question. How long does it take you to color a picture. I would guess 5 or 6 hrs or is the program faster than that.

Mitch
Feb 19th, 2007, 11:09:32 PM
Really depends on the piece. Some of them can be finished in color in under an hour, the average is 3-5 hours, and some can take in excess of 10-12, all depending on the complexity and style I'm going for. Also, how into the piece I am really makes a difference, too.

Laird James McCullen XXIV, better known as Destro, and Baroness Anastasia DeCobray, the real power behind the puppet Cobra Commander. Destro's armament company, M.A.R.S, was always able to provide firepower, and the Baroness provided a firepower all her own. They've always been two of my favorite villian designs, and so I decided to furry-ize them for my submission to the Califur convention book.
