The new series, well, last season's season of it, at least, of Dr. Who is coming to the Sci-Fi channel.

A friend of mine gave me the whole first season a few months back, and I must say that I am totally addicted and I love it. There are a few throwbacks to the previous series, but it can more than stand on its one. That, and Christopher Eccleston is a treat to watch.

So, watch out for it, and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. I believe it is set to premiere on Friday, and if you want to get some of the longer running jokes, you'll really want to start watching from the beginning.

I just checked the Sci-Fi Channel website, since none of the commercials I've seen for Doctor Who have mentioned a premiere date...it's Friday, March 17 from 9-11pm. It makes sense since this Friday is season finale Friday for Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica.

I'll definitely check it out, since I've been a Who fan for years and years. Last I'd heard, though, is that Christopher Eccleston had already announced he was leaving the show, but I hadn't heard anything more about any new casting.

David Tennant has already taken over from Eccleston.

I think he started in the second series. I haven't watched any of it, though I have heard good things from others about it :)

The new series is decent enough. I unfortunately didn't get to see too many episodes of the first season (and I haven't seen any of the 2nd with Tennant ala. Barty Crouch Jr) though I at least got to see the Daalek one, which was a treat.

Maybe I'm just nostaligic, but I really wish we could get an older looking doctor again ala. William Hartnell (the 1st Doctor) or Jon Pertwee (the 3rd Doctor). It seems that starting from Peter Davison (the 5th Doctor) we've had younger men in the role, which may be good for action scenes when they can run around but I kind of like my old, thinking, methodical Doctors too. :)

Eccleston was great at being both the active, quick younger Doctor, but he was also definitely thinking the whole time. I've seen a good bit of the old series, and all of season one of the new one, and so far he's been my favorite Doctor. Too bad he felt he was going to get typecast and left after season one.

Hopefully he'll land the role of the Joker in the next Batman movie.

I got the show on disc for Christmas from someone on another board. Have to admit they did a great job.

Useless bit o' trivia for the day: Harry Melling, who plays Dudley Dursley in the Potter films, is Patrick Troughton's (the Second Doctor's) grandson.

I wasn't all that impressed, at least not with the first 2 episodes. As a matter of fact, I turned the second one off halfway through. It just didn't grab me or hold my attention as much as I'd hoped.

I'm sure I'll probably still watch it if there's nothing else on on Friday nights, but it's not at all going to be "appointment TV" for me like Lost and Battlestar Galactica are. Except for any episodes that feature Daleks, those will be a must-see.

You turned it off halfway through? Man, you missed the best parts, then. "The End of the World" has a great ending.

The problem was that what was leading up to the ending just wasn't interesting for me. I guess they'll be rerunning that one before the new episode next Friday, so if I feel like it, I may still try to see how it all turns out.

Trust me, I'm as a big a Who fan as anybody out there, but so far, this one just isn't doing it for me. :\
