View Full Version : Cloud City

UPDATE: The list has been added to, and positions are on a first come first serve basis. Names have been placed in as well until a definite yay or nay is given.

After watching too much DS9, Charley and I would like to propose an idea.

A new group, so to say, for Fans; a somewhat neutral group on Cloud City. Now, according to the FAQ, a new group requires five unique members in order to be 'recognized' - this shouldn't be a problem as long as we have participation.

Neither Charley nor myself really want control of this group, so this would give anyone who wants it, a chance to helm this project in both IC and OOC capacities. The only responsibility I personally am willing to take on is to take care of financial obligations in terms of group costs - beyond that this is something fun for the players.

Another large facet that this would give us is a somewhat central and neutral bar setting, much like the set-up we had with Yog's. A place for everyone to meet up, gamble, grab a few drinks along the way, etc. Another neat thing about this would be the chance to make small adlinks for this 'bar', and submit them to either Agglomeration and/or the Holonet.

Here are a few of the positions that would need to be filled:

Baron Administrator - Morg
Baron Administrator's Advisor
Security Chief
Chief of Mining Operations
Barkeep - Mu
Imperial Garrison Commander - Lamar
Rebel Presence
Doctor - Jenny

These are just the initial ideas, so if anyone wishes to comment or voice their thoughts, please feel free :)

After the whole Vader fiasco Cloud City was abandoned, so right now it would only take an enterprising group to try and hold the whole thing down.

Are you suggesting that the Imperials take it over?

I'm sure there is some room for certain shopkeepers to set up shop and provide amenities for the miners and various community members. For instance, a florist. Since I am an accomplished florist - and nothing else mind you, I am eager to provide my wares and services to any and all who would seek them.

Don't worry about any of my past employment history, especially my tenure as an imperial stormtrooper cloning template. My past employment ventures are concluded and I'm simply entering into business for myself, thats all :)

Not necessarily. Wasn't sure if the imperials would still be there or not, but from what it seems, they aren't :)

Well.... As a place for pirates to lay um and do business, this could be a most excellent idea. Count me in?

I was thinking more along the lines of a very slight Imperial presence; perhaps the Imperial garrison stationed there has become a slight bit lax in upholding Imperial law?

Mostly I think this would work better as a neutral point/melting pot of the galaxy's patrons. And this certainly includes pirates. It could not only be a spot for scoundrels to stop in and turn whatever profit they can or start trouble, but Imperial/Rebel intrigues - since I'm sure both parties would have their own agendas while on Cloud City.

And if that's the case, it's certainly not a problem to strike of 'Imperial Garrison Commender'.

Morgan Evanar
Mar 6th, 2006, 11:31:01 AM
No, I could see a shady but very competent jaded Imperial garrison commander who simply doesn't give a crap anymore so long as people aren't murdering each other, he makes some extra credits on the side and Command is off his back.

I like this idea.

Of course, we've had a problem getting new groups to stick ever since the Cizerack Pride went belly up.

Mar 6th, 2006, 12:47:58 PM
Yeah, but this seems like more a place then a group. Sure, there'd be the "Cloud City" characters, but everyone could potentially rp there. I like it :)

We could just add CC: Awesome RP Title Here to the threads.

this sounds like a perfect place for Mu to chill in... she's always wanted her own bar... how much time comitment is needed on a weekly basis?

Lilaena De'Ville
Mar 6th, 2006, 02:36:49 PM
I think it needs it's own place. But we could make it another subforum inside the Star Wars Rping - since it's a location rather than a typical group, persay. Like the KA is now really just the planet Onderon (although, like other newer groups, it seems to have gone belly up).

Not making an official opinion, just throwing an idea out.

If it was made into a group board, it would be sub-forumed under ...Dark Mosaic? Anyway, I'm not sure we're officially open to accepting more group boards at the moment.

edit: or make the Roleplaying forum headings look like this:

Star Wars RPing
Cloud City
General RPing
RPing planning etc

I like the idea a lot, though I'm so swamped with my already established characters to really contribute, though I would post there, if that counts as contributing.

Ira Yahff
Mar 6th, 2006, 08:49:58 PM
If I could ever get this character off the ground I would definately jump aboard as a Barkeep or something.

Also, I'd be quite interested in shifting Lamar Starworth into the mix as an Imperial Garrison Commander if that would be cool with everyone back on the Empire's Front.

Jaime Tomahawk
Mar 6th, 2006, 09:25:23 PM
I would think for this to work, Bespin would be best run with someone like Sil or someone like that taking up a new Imp account and acting like Morgan thinks is best.

Although a corrupt but competent Imp may have some appeal to me for a side account.....

Loklorien s'Ilancy
Mar 6th, 2006, 09:59:12 PM
Mu: I'm not entirely sure about a time commitments. Since I know an RPer who plays the barkeep can't be in every thread that takes place in the bar, I thought it best to approach this like we did with Yog's. Nothing's to stop you from jumping into an open thread or starting your own, but nothing is going to require you to poke into every bar thread there is.

That being said, maybe setting up bar rules, hiring a small (1 or 2 person) staff, and whatever else would help. Especially with the hired help, you can recruit other RPers to watch the bar in your absence. A name would definately be needed, like Mu's or The Lazy 'I' or something.

Holly: I definately was thinking this best done with its' own space. This gives members a somewhat tangible place to go, where they can RP without the tangle in the Roleplaying forum and it makes it feel as though we're at more of a location. Now, where it is put I'm not entirely sure of. I was originally thinking Dark Mosaic, so that's certainly a viable option.

I do know that like KA, Cloud City really should have it's own subforums; one for the Bar definately, and probably another for the city itself.

Lamar: You're more than welcome to set yourself up as the Imperial garrison commander. I'm thinking this is gonna be a first come first serve thing in terms of picking out what role you want.

Now, as for who runs this thing. The person in charge is the Baron Administrator. As I said before, there would be both an Imperial and Rebel presence (in whatever form), but Cloud City needs to stay public and the main administration neutral.

Morgan Evanar
Mar 6th, 2006, 10:10:36 PM
Actually it's far more appealing to have it officially Imperial, since everything official is. It's just so much more profitable to not give a damn :) Remember, neither group is going to share space willingly unless they absolutely have to. We could have it run by a firm like BlasTec, who agrees to have a garisson simply to keep extra Imperial officiating out of it's hair. The security/chief would be a mercenary company under a solid contract to BlasTec.

Loklorien s'Ilancy
Mar 6th, 2006, 10:25:59 PM
I like the firm idea alot. I can't remember exactly what Tibanna gas is used in, so whatever big conglomerate/company stands to gain the most would probably make a very good administration.

I was thinking it'd be set up in its' own forum, with a Cloud 9 subforum and a few others - possibly Cloud City Administration, and the Hospital; kind of like what the groups in Dark Mosaic have.

Garak was such a classy cat :D Though I have to admit that I liked Gul Dukat the most ^_^;

Level 101-120: Administrative offices.
+ Level 115 houses the offices of Dr. Barton Henning
Level 121-160: Port Town, an area which held an infamous reputation.
+ Level 122 boasts Cloud 9 Bar & Grill, owned by Mu Satach
Level 161-220: General housing of the facility's workers.
Level 221-280: Factories.
Level 281-370: Gas refineries and miners' quarters.
Level 371-392: Contained the 36,000 repulsorlift engines and tractor beam generators that kept the city afloat and in position.
