That's right, I'm going with the Bucs! I don't care what it costs me!!! :crack

The Cowboys haven't forgotten that embarrasing Monday Night collapse. They'll make the Redskins pay. They know how to win on Washington's home turf. They'll get the job done and find themselves in first place at the end of the day.

Plus, KC is going to show some guts and win a road game against the NFC East. The key for Dallas last week was Bledsoe. I don't think Manning at this stage in his career can give the G-Men the same kind effort Bledsoe did for the Cowboys. If Manning plays as poorly as he did last week against the Chiefs they'll bury him.

Go with the favorites! Here's your chance to close the gap, I don't care!!!!!!!!

You've picked them to win every week!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Well, the Colts injury games have started. Both Corey Simon and Cato June are nicked up. If they were still battling for HF these guys would be starting, but with everything wrapped up Dungy is sitting them. Even Robert Mathis might not play this Sunday because of a minor foot injury. This is what's gonna happen for the rest of the season. If Dungy hears a guy sneeze he may end up sitting out a game. If San Diego can't beat a Colts team that has nothing to play for then they really don't deserve to be in the playoffs. This is it for Marty and the Chargers. They lose and the AFC Wild Card spots are left for Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and KC to fight over.

jjwr

Oh No!!!! Two Colts players have minor injuries, what shall they do!!!! Once they lose their top two RB's, #2 WR, Starting TE, Center, a Guard and a Tackle at the same time then I may start to feel sorry for the Colts :)

Lord how I HATE the Pats. First ball Brady threw bounced off Brooks's hands. Brooks doesn't make the big play, the Pats drive down for a TD. They can't let those opportunities get away from them. Time for Simms and Cadillac to respond.

Anyone else catch the replace of the facemask penalty when Brady completed the 26yd pass to Dwight? Rice had his facemask and it looked like Brady's eyes were closed when he threw.

Sorry to say but this is what the Pats would have been all year without all the injuries.

That was silly. A total domination by the Pats. Proof once again that teams from South Florida can't hack it up North. The Pats are officially back now and look out if they meet the Colts. Peyton had better be ready.

Ryan Pode
Dec 17th, 2005, 04:39:28 PM
I wouldn't call this the next coming of the Patriots. The Buc's offense has been bi-polar all season, some weeks playing great, some weeks playing worse than the Ravens. They were on the road, in a tough to play in stadium, playing a team that needed the win desperately, and it was cold.

Just a glimpse of their road wearies:

At Min 24-14 Win
At GB 17-16 Win
At NYJ 12-14 Loss
At SF 10-15 Loss
At Atl 30-27 Win
At NO 10-3 Win
At Car 20-10 Win
At NE 0-28 Loss

5-3 on the road. But they've lost to the 2-11 Niners and 3-10 Jets. They barely got the win in Atlanta and good defense kept the Saints from winning there. They're hardly a top tier team.

Jedieb
Dec 17th, 2005, 05:05:26 PM
They were 5-2 on the road before today. That's a pretty good road record. You're not suppose to win handily on the road. But they should have won those games the Jets and Niners. That's where the bi-polar disorder shows. They win on the road against tough teams but lost winnable games.

Today I blame the play calling in the first half. On that fist drive Simms was 4 out of 4 and the Bucs drove the ball. But after stalling and punting they spent the rest of the first half running for 1 and 3 yard gains on first and second down. It was horrible. They should have thrown more on first and second down to set up the run. By the time the second half came around they were down big and forced to throw. It's a miracle Simms didn't get carried out on a stretcher.

The Pats looked damn good today. They're healthy and they've clinched a playoff spot. Now they have to get through the last 2 weeks with little to play for and hope they don't get any more banged up.

Jedieb
Dec 17th, 2005, 06:48:28 PM
That last TD by Toomer is being challenged, but one thing is certain;
The Kansas City Chiefs couldn't tackle a girl scout in a phone booth. This is some of the most pathetic defense I've ever seen. What the hell has happened to the Chiefs? This is just embarrasing. The Chiefs have enough offense to come back, but I haven't seen anything today that makes me think KC is anything more than a 1 and done WC team, at best.

Jedieb
Dec 17th, 2005, 07:15:48 PM

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 17th, 2005, 10:38:08 PM
The Chiefs defense is regressing. They looked great against Denver and New England but sorry against Dallas and Ny Giants. I think it is the road bit, they have played horrible on the road all season, especially the Defense and I have no idea why. Maybe they can't get motivated enough on the Road, that could be a lot of it. I still wouldn't be shocked to see them sweep their home games but I don't know if they can get in at 10-6, besides they would be playing at either Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Denver or New England and that is just a loss, IMO.
About New England watch out for them they are going to be Dangerous I think. If they play the Colts again they could beat them.

sirdizzy
Dec 17th, 2005, 11:32:52 PM
I wonder if Denver was trying to get ready for the playoffs the first half of that bills game. I haven't seen them throw it that much all season, I wonder if Shanahan thinks they may need to gunsling it at some point in the playoffs. You saw what happened after they got back to broncos football, 4 long back breaking drives ending in 4 tds to seal the game.

And that may be pretty close to the end of the chiefs season, denver won so any hope they might have had at the division is gone, yes they are tough at home in december and may go 2-0 at arrowhead down the stretch but 10-6 may not be enough.

The steelers, jags and chargers can all put one more nail in the cheifs coffin with wins tommorow. There not dead yet but these two back to back losses have them on life support.

sirdizzy

sirdizzy
Dec 18th, 2005, 12:23:33 AM
ummm its not over yet sunny jim, I won it last year and have every damn intention of winning it this year as well. I'll see you in the championship game if your still kicking around.

And denver did put them away, once they stopped that stupid gunslinging attack they went after in the first half. They had four consecutive and very impressive drives all ending in a TD to completly dominate them the second half of the game.

I am not sure what Shanahan was thinking by going after them in the air so much the first half but once he abandoned that idiocy we kicked the hell out of the bills. Those 4 drives were impressive, we drove on them at will and scored on them at will.

sirdizzy
Dec 18th, 2005, 12:39:08 AM
and I love this, some people like JMC were questioning my win last year but now yahoo lets me show I did win it all last year

I have been 9 fantasy football leagues and thats sad I only have won 1 and placed 3rd once more (I am out in two of my leagues this year already, I lost my first game and got sucked into the consolation division last week and the wookie league only allowed the top 4 teams to play for the championship). So i want SWfans to be win #2 in 9 leagues.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 08:55:05 AM
Denver looked pretty damn good in that second half. Why Shanahan threw so much in the first half is beyond me. But I think it's troubling that that's a part of Denver's offense that isn't clicking. Smith had a great game, but they just don't seem to be able to get points on the board that way.

The Chiefs however looked really bad. They played a great game against Dallas but they looked wretched yesterday. I thought they needed to defend their turf and split one of those 2 home games. Without that one road win I think they're out. The Steelers and Jags are going to end up winning those 2 AFC WC spots. The Chargers and Chiefs have pretty much given them away.

The Bucs look like a team that's a year away. A road loss is one thing, but being dominated and shut out is another. The defense played well for stretches, but every time the Pats got into the red zone they rolled over. And the play calling in the first half was way too conservative. Next year they should be back to challenging for the division title.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 12:05:46 PM
The Chargers/Colts game has just started. One quick stat to throw out; San Diego is ranked 27th against the pass.

After a false start the Brees just hit Jackson for a big first down. Let the fun begin!

Jedieb

jjwr

Up 10-0, Chargers have to keep it on though, they are going to need 30+ to win this and unlike the Rams can't afford to lose their QB :)

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 12:40:15 PM
One of the best things the Colts may have going for them is MartyBall! Two holding calls and the Chargers go from the 13 to the 33 and what does Marty do? He calls 3 straight runs including a draw on 3rd and 17. Way to go for the jugular Marty!

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 12:45:01 PM
What I'm seeing from the Colts are a lot of small mistakes. Holding, drops, missed assignments, and an all around lack of focus. It'll be interesting to see if someone makes a play and snaps them out of this funk.

jjwr
Dec 18th, 2005, 01:00:43 PM
You can challenge how many men are on the field but in a Runner is ruled down with a whistle blown even on a obvious fumble you can't challenge it? WTF....

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 01:00:55 PM
On this Colts drive I see alot of 3 step drops and shorter routes to get the offense going. But I'm still seeing some sloppy play. Stokley didn't break off a route on a hot read and then he tripped and nearly gave the Chargers an INT. Quick snap by now Manning to get a free 5 yards. They'll get it on the challenge. Finally, a typical heads up play.

You really can't do anything about plays involving the whistle because they effectively end the play. A player hears that whistle and they're suppose to stop. But the 12 men rule is something that can be checked.

A surprising 3 and out to start the second half for the Chargers D. I didn't expect the Colts to come out of halftime and not make enough adjustments to at least get something going on that first drive of the half. That takes the crowd out of the game. Wow.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 02:07:24 PM
The Colts finally get on the board with a FG, but the Chargers defense is doing a tremendous job of stuffing Edge. They've played the run well all year long. Shutting down Edge is causing the Colts offense all kinds of problems. The Colts D has forced some FG's or this game would be a rout, but I think they're starting to wear out.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 02:13:03 PM
Big turnover by the Colts D and now Manning just Harrison down to the 1. Now, can Edge get the ball in?

Yep, we've got a one possession ball game. 16-10.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 03:12:13 PM
Big pass to Clark and in one play they're at the 35. It doesn't matter though, they don't have enough time and time outs. Here's what I don't get, why didn't they go for it on 4th down? You're betting on a 3 and out, so what's the difference if you get it before the 50 or deep in their territory? They ended up gaining only 20 yards because they punted it in the end zone anyway. Well, here comes desperation time.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 03:14:02 PM
Game over, an INT on a tipped pass. Well, now Dungy can rest his guys and get ready for the playoffs.

JMK
Dec 18th, 2005, 03:29:08 PM
That's the consolation. The guessing game ends; do they rest their starters or not? Well now the answer is clear. Next week vs the Seahawks is a situation where you can play your guys but risk showing the Seahawks your cards in case you play in the Superbowl, or rest your starters. The trouble with that is that it's pretty difficult to turn the mojo on and off like a switch. The Cardinals game in week 17 is a no-brainer. Then they have the bye week for more rest. Life ain't so bad for the Colts afterall. Now they can focus on what really counts.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 18th, 2005, 04:36:04 PM
Seattle may have nothing to play for either if the Falcons beat the Bears, the Seahawks clinch that and both teams will be sitting their players.

The Cobwoys are getting spanked by the Redskins, 21-0. Bledsoe just hit Whitten for a big gain giving Dallas some hope of getting something going before the end of the half. Unless there's a miracle comeback it looks like the Devil will be right back on my heels at 3 games.

Tipped pass for a crushing interception. Washington may be able to pile it on even more. Game over man, gave over. :cry

thats who Indy will lose to in the playoffs, the patriots in Indy, as the jags are going to get manhandled by them in the first round

If the playoffs started today:

1. Colts
2. Broncos
3. Bengals
4. Patriots
5. Jaguars
6. Steelers

Bengals are #3 because of division record and Steelers over Chargers because of head-to-head.

Wildcard weekend would look like:

Steelers @ Bengals
Jaguars @ Patriots

Scenario A:
Bengals win, play Denver
Patriots win, play Colts

B:
Steelers win, play Colts
Patriots win, play Denver

C:
Bengals win, play Denver
Jaguars win, play Colts

D:
Steelers win, play Colts
Jaguars win, play Denver

And then the winner of the two games play each other. With the winner of that advancing to the superbowl.

I think that 1-6 ranking will probably hold. The Steelers have Cleveland and Detroit to end the year and the Jags have Houston and Tenn. Meanwhile, San Diego and the Chiefs have to play each other and the Chargers also have to play Denver. The AFC West teams are going to cannibilize each these last two weeks leaving the last 2 WC spots to the Steelers and Jags.

It's one loss in a game in which they had nothing to play for. What we'll see these last 2 weeks from the Colts is the same thing we saw the Broncos do when they went 13-0. The starters will play first halves, and maybe some of the second. If anybody is nicked up they'll get to take the day off. I still haven't seen anything to make me think the Pats are the same team they were last year and even that team would have had a hard time winning in Indy in January. But that's why they play the games. We'll have to wait and see who's for real and who's a pretender.

Tonight's game is going to be a low scoring defensive slugfest, but it's got major playoff implications. If the Bears win, Seattle still has not clinched HF advantage. Which means their game with Indy next week is going to mean something to them. Right now Atlanta is clinging to that #6 slot and a if they lose they'll drop back to 8-6 with the Cowboys, Vikings, and Redskins. Tampa, even after getting pasted, has the #5 slot. If Atlanta wins Seattle clinches HF and the Bucs and Falcons would be tied at 9-5. Right now, the Bucs still hold the edge because of that 30-27 win AT Atlanta. Which sets up a WC battle next week when the Falcons visit Raymond James.

NFC Seeds
1. Seattle 12-2
2. N.Y. Giants 10-4
3. Carolina 10-4
4. Chicago 9-4
5. Tampa Bay 9-5
6. Atlanta 8-5
7. Minnesota 8-6
8. Washington 8-6
9. Dallas 8-6

Lots at stake tonight. Bears up 6-3 right now.

It all depends on which Steelers team shows up. Will it be one that hammers the ball with Bettis and Staley or tries to get cute with Parker? If they play defense and run the ball effectively they can beat Cincy.

Well, the Bears finally benched Orton and put in Grossman to a standing ovation. Grossman just completed his second pass and the crowd is going nuts. His first pass went for a first down and the crowd gave him his second standing ovation. I'm sure Orton is a nice guy, but he blows. He may not be throwing many INT's, but the guy short arms one ball after another, misses open receivers, and throws one ball after another to the wrong shoulder. Grossman just hit Mohammed again for another first down and the Bears have First and Goal. Say goodbye to the Kyle Orton Era.

Lucky Grossman. Still, more yards and completitons on 4 passes than Orton with 10.

Jedieb
Dec 18th, 2005, 09:43:51 PM
He might be lucky, but he's got the crowd and the team with him. I think it's obvious a lot of the receivers want Grossman in there. And I bet there are a lot of defensive guys that are sick of 3 and outs and less than 20 yards passing in a half. But you're right, he got real lucky there.

Now Vick just threw a horrible pass and the Bears are back on offense. Let's see if Grossman can make a few more plays. The kid needs to play and makes some mistakes. Even at his worst I think he'll be better than Orton.

It's amazing, but the Bears look COMPLETELY different on offense with Grossman in there. Even if they just get a FG on this drive, they look like a team that can actually get the ball downfield now.

Yeah its not like Grossman came out of nowhere, he was their unquestioned starter in the pre-season before getting injured. They definetly have a different feel to them with him behind Center.

As for the Pats, they definetly aren't the Pats team of last year but what your starting to see with this guys is the swagger is coming back. The Front 7 is absolutly dominating, Buffalo and Tampa were both top 10 rushing teams and were shut down. The secondary does still have holes but considering they are down to a street Free Agent and a rookie starting they are doing pretty well.

Last 3 games, Defense has allowed an Average of 3.3 Points, only 1 Touchdown and that was on a broken play at the very end of the Bills game.

Allowing an average of 160 Yards of Total offense Per Game
Allowing an average of 28.3 Yards of Rushing Per Game.
Scoring 26.3 Per game

Since Returning Dillon has scored 3 Rushing TD's and 1 Receiving TD in 3 Games.

No they are not quite back yet and won't be, Harrison isn't coming back. With luck their starting tackle Light will be back and they now have 2 meaningless games to fine tune and rest up for the playoffs.

Then you had Theismann who just kept going on and on about how good of a 'manager' Orton had become for that offense.

My opinion is that it's easy to be a good 'manager' when you realize that you really have no natural talent as a QB. See Fiedler, Dilfer, Orton...feel free to add to the list.

Ryan Pode
Dec 19th, 2005, 08:54:44 AM
Jim Harbaugh (circa 1998), Eric Zeier, Stoney Case, Tony Banks, Trent Dilfer, Randall Cunningham (circa 2001), Jeff Blake, Anthony Wright, and Kyle Boller.

That's every starting Raven QB except Vinny Testeverde (4,100 yards and 33 TDs passing) and Elvis Grbac (crummy numbers, but absolutely no running game as J. Lewis was hurt all season). :(

jjwr
Dec 19th, 2005, 09:02:07 AM
Orton can definetly be good but he's a rookie, he obviously wasn't getting the job done so I don't see why they had so much trouble pulling him. He held the ship afloat but they had to know with their anemic offense no way would they have gone anywhere in the playoffs with him at the helm.

As for the Ravens, rumors are they are going to either go after Phillip Rivers or try to find a solid Veteran. I'm not sure which Vets will be available, Collins should be but after that I'm not sure.

Tonight's game means NOTHING so let's go to the seeds.

AFC Seeds
1. Colts 13-1
2. Broncos 11-3
3. Bengals 11-3
4. Patriots 9-5
5. Jaguars 10-4
6. Steelers 9-5
7. San Diego 9-5
8. Kansas City 8-6
9. Miami 7-7

Yes, the Dolphins are actually in the playoff hunt. I don't know how Saban had done it, but if you're a Fins fan you have to feel good about next year.

NFC Seeds
1. Seattle12-2
2. Chicago 10-4
3. NY Giants 10-4
4. Carolina 10- 4
5. Tampa Bay 9-5
6. Washington 8-6
7. Dallas 8-6
8. Atlanta 8-6
9. Minnesota 8-6
Unbelievably, the Redskins are IN the playoffs if the season ended today. Not only that, but they have a shot at the division title. They get the Giants at home next week. That defense played out of its mind last night. Manning has problems on the road so I wouldn't be surprised if the Redskins are actually favored next week.

These last 2 games for the Colts mean absolutely NOTHING. Momentum means squat. It's simple, you have ANY kind of nagging injury, you sit down. Next week will probably be the LAST time Edge wears a uniform this season. If the Colts have a lead at half time next week I'd start pulling one starter after another and completely ignore the 4th quarter. Staying sharp for 4 quarters is nonsense right now. Give your guys the first half and then start playing your scrubs. The Eagles completely ignored their last 2 games last year and still made it to the Superbowl. After losing their undefeated bid Denver fell asleep for the rest of the season and lost 2 of its last 3. Let everybody who has to beat their brains out Indy. You can play a few series in each of these games then take a nap.

End of the season sucks for fantasy football if they ain't got nothing to play with.

As for the Ravens, if you want to keep Kyle Boller, get a vet. Those will include: Kerry Collins, Kurt Warner, Brian Griese, Jon Kitna, and Jeff Garcia. I'd rather go with a vetern. But, the Ravens first need is o-line.

They're mathematically in the hunt but that's about it. Still, I am happy about that considering where the team was last year. They could have even been in a better position this year had they taken care of business against the Jets in week 2, Bills in week 5 and not laid an egg with a 22-0 shutout loss in Cleveland a month ago they would be right up there and looking good for the WC, with a shot at the division.

The future looks bright. Hopefully they'll get a better QB via the draft, or free agency and be ready in 2 seasons from now to contend for the division, and possibly more.

Brooks could definetly do well elsewhere, lets not forget that whole team is a mess. With a coach like Saban Brooks could be a very effective QB.

What about Rosenfels? He's done quite well in relief in a few games, why not let him start the last 2 games and see what he can do?

From the N.O games I've seen, Brooks has shown flashes of star calibur performances. But his O-line collapses every other play, forcing him to push his throws. I'd personally love to see Brooks prosper some place, though I might be biased... I'm stuck with him for 2 more years in my keeper league. :D

Brooks in Miami might not be such a bad idea. He's got a canon for an arm and he's pretty mobile. With a running game and that defense he might be able to flourish there. He'll be one of the better QB's available and he's sure as hell an upgrade from what you've got now.

Dec 19th, 2005, 08:23:12 PM
You guys should probably get a guy like Brooks and use your first round pick on the best QB available and roll the dice. Remember, Marino didn't go until late in the first round and we all know about Brady. You never know what you might find, but the Fins have finished so strong that they're not going to be able to draft one of the top 3 QB's coming out.

JMK
Dec 19th, 2005, 09:20:52 PM
Not unless they trade up with someone. I'm not sure how long Saban is willing to go with 'caretaker' QB like Frerotte or Rosenfels. He'll probably want to get 'the guy' to start next year, which is scary. He just may go after Brooks. But if he does want to draft the QB of the future they'll have to get a true veteran guy, someone who can mentor him for the first year. I don't see Brooks as the mentor, he probably won't want that role.

The Dolphins also seem like the sort of team that would go after a David Garrard. I don't know if the Jags plan on keeping him, but he's been a good looking backup so far.

Watching tonight's game...who's playing QB for the Ravens? He's got Boller on the back of his jersey, but that sure doesn't look like the Boller we know. 2 first half TD's?

It'll definetly be Rivers, they have pretty much already said they are keeping Bree's.

I still can't believe the Packers got 3 Monday Night Games this year......

On the bright side near the end of next year they are going to have a small selection of games they can switch from Sunday Afternoon until Sunday Night as Sunday will be the more marquee type game from now on. So in theory instead of Packers vs Ravens we could have had Colts vs Bolts in primetime.

Yeah, I see the NFL working there. There have been a number of dud prime time games in the past couple years. And I know that must drive the NFL crazy to have meaningless games out there as the playoffs approach. How on earth did the Packers get 3 MNF this year? Is everyone still that much in love with Favre? Did they do it because they all figured this was going to be his last year? Will they plan it this way again next year if Favre returns?
