So my husband, Joe, and I have adopted a pair of stray kittens! I mean, I was incomplete without cats, so it was high time to get some!

This one is Isis (http://www.egyptianmyths.net/isis.htm). She's a Bombay (http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/bombay-faq.html) kitten. Initially when we decided to get a kitten a month or two ago, I told Joe I wanted a black cat and wanted to name it Isis, after Catwoman's black cat (What?? Did you expect anything less of me? :p ). I researched cat breeds until I found the Bombay and decided I wanted one of those. Shortly thereafter, I found a Bombay kitten up for adoption from Second Chance Pet Adoption (http://www.freewebs.com/secondchancepetadoptions/) and we made arrangements to adopt her.
The story behind Isis is that she walked into an office building and started meowing, wanting attention. The people there called Petsmart, who works with the shelter, to see if they could take the kitten.

The shelter had named her Polly, as she is a polydactyl (http://www.messybeast.com/poly-cats.html), meaning she has an extra toe on each foot. You can see her sixth toe sticking out from her paw in this picture. Her front paws have six toes each instead of the traditional five (the fifth being the dew claw) and her back paws have five toes each instead of the traditional four. And she has no problems using her extra toes to have an advantage over "normal" cats. She has an amazing claw grip when she climbs, utilizing that extra "thumb" on her front paws.

When we first went to meet Isis, she was in a cage with her friend Bastet (http://www.egyptianmyths.net/bastet.htm) (the shelter had named her Gracie). We couldn't take Isis home at that point because she was too young and still being bottle-fed. After we got home Joe asked me "is Isis going to be all right at home by herself when we're at work?" One thing led to another and we asked the shelter if we could adopt Bastet as well. Deanna, the lady who was caring for both of them said that would be wonderful, and later expressed gladness that we adopted them both, as they had become best friends.
Bastet is a Pastel Calico. Her specific breed is unknown, so when you don't know the breed, you basically just give them the generic Domestic Short Hair title.

Isis is about seven weeks old or so, and Bastet is about a week younger at six weeks. Both are incredibly friendly and playful and very talkative. And they're growing fast.
During the day, they want to play for about two hours (the first few minutes which is spent porking on some food) and then nap for about two or three hours. And then the cycle starts up again.
Luckily they sleep right through the night.
So, there they are! Happy kitties! And they're ours! We figure if we can keep them alive, we'll think about graduating to something harder, like babies (much later, though ^_^; ).
