In a recent study on the value of higher education, Time magazine was quoted as saying, "Most colleges are seriously out of step with the real world in getting students ready to become workers in the postcollege world. Vocational schools... are seeing a mini-boom. Their enrollment grew 48% from 1996 to 2000... Meanwhile, those expensive, time-sucking college diplomas have become worth less than ever." So see?

"Expensive, time-sucking college diploma" = creating a franchise which has generated about the gross domestic product of Panama.

This is something the UK press have commented on. The "expensive, time-sucking college diplomas" are much more common now. Degrees are so common that employers need more. Students need to work on a lot of extra-curricular to make themselves stand out from the other 50 applicants who also have strong degrees in the necessary area.

How can you even compare Lucas degree to that of rhe modern day world. why yes I am sure that the degree helped him create the star wars franchise, this degree was earned in thr 1960's a vastly different economic and business world than today.

This is very true. Most college graduates today need far more than just the piece of paper from their university to secure a career in their desired field. As degrees become more common place, employers look more for other factors to differentiate between candidates and choose the best ones. Thirty or more years ago, a bachelors degree was a golden ticket to a great job. Today, it's akin to what a high school diploma once was in a lot of professions.

And unfortunately, a lot of college grads are finding this out the hard way.
