Everyone needs to be aware that, because of the impending landfall of Hurricane Wilma on southern Florida, the Chiefs/Dolphins game has been moved from Sunday to Friday evening. Thusly, there will only be a little more than 24 hours to get your picks in for that game. All of the other picks will be due at the normal time (kickoff of first games on Sunday). So, please be aware that each person has the following options when making picks:

- Pick all the games before 7PM Eastern time on Friday

or

- Pick the Kansas City/Miami game in one post before 7PM Eastern time Friday, and submit the other picks in a seperate post by 1PM Eastern time on Sunday.

Either option is acceptable. Just remember to choose one of these. If you edit a post after the kickoff of any games, your entire slate of picks becomes void.

Well it might favor the Chiefs because I read that Taylor and Seau won't play because they rushed up the game. Without them Holmes and Johnson might run all over that defense.

We're not going to see any 13-1 records this week. There are a ton of games that could go either way. Should be a good week. I just hope DirecTV carries the Dolphin game. I heard it's not going to be national because of TV contracts. So unless you're in the Miami or KC areas you may not be able to see the game.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 21st, 2005, 11:12:35 AM
Saturday becomes pretty regular in December. They don't like doing those two days before that because of college and high school games. Also anybody else think that the game should have been played on Sunday at a neutral site? I think it would have been better for the city of Miami especially. The stadium will pratically be empty in a rain drenched game and nobody and those who go will be risking having to ride out the storm. To me that is wrong for the NFL to ask people to do that. But hey that is my two cents.

JMK
Oct 21st, 2005, 12:01:04 PM
The Dolphins wouldn't want to give up a home game if they can find a way around it. Nor should they have to give up a home game. It sucks for the Saints that they were saddled with that situation, but it's not quite the same for Miami.

But a game should take precident over the people of the city. The NFL should say the hell with what the Dolphins want, people shouldn't be in that stadium watching a game a couple of days before a hurricane comes into town, they should play the game somewhere else, a neutral site. Really this just smells of greed, IMO.

JMK
Oct 21st, 2005, 03:21:51 PM
From that standpoint yes, for the safety of the people of miami they should have started evacuating already. But no evacuations have started so it looks like no one is taking this hurricane seriously enough. Not yet anyway.

I am seeing a lot of people take the Giants, do you really think they stand any chance against Denver. They are not as strong as they appear as they play in somewhat of a weak division and really haven't beat anyone yet.

Denver has won 5 straight games against teams with winning records or at least .500. San Diego 3-3, Kansas City 3-2, Jacksonville 4-2. Washington 3-2 and New England 3-3

its not like the bengals were the combined record of their 5 wins is against teams who have gone 17-42

KC wins 30-20, the offense looked great 476 yards both Holmes and Johnson almost had 100 each. Though Freotte played terrible, they be better off with that guy who throw the 70 yard pass.

Jedi Master Carr

Well the Chiefs had that long plane ride and had to play 3 hours later so I think they could have won. Heck at times it sounded like the Chief players were tired. It also benefits them since they now have 9 days to prepare for the Chargers, which will be great.

Oct 22nd, 2005, 06:17:51 PM
Thats the thing they beat Jacksonville in Jacksonville, granted a lot of their wins this season have been at home but they are better at every single aspect of the game than the giants.

There running game will absolutly overpower the giants and when the giants stack the box like they have to to stop denver they will hit them with several long plays just like they did new england.

Eli is going to be a good QB but denvers front four should knock him down all day and hes young and the pressure hes going to get is going to be the difference. Denvers weak spot is their secondary but the giants aren't a stretch em kind of team they have slower route runners at reciever who go across the middle of the field and rely on the running game to suplement them. This plays to denvers strength as they are vunerable over the top but strong on those middling routes with the best lineback trio in the league.

The giants only advantage in the game is the home field and I don't think thats reason enough to pick em to win.

You might have mentioned it. I dont like them much either for the moment concidering I picked the Rams.

Oh, and it really annoys me the fact that Bengals have been DOMINATING so far against the Steelers, yet they had one TD called off and the other time near the redzone I dont know what the heck happened. Nevertheless, no doubt Bengals look stronger than Steelers right now.

They're still behind though. Where's the justice?

The Philly/Charger game is a real snoozer. Flags on every play, and 3 of them were no foul calls. T.O. pulls off a lame endzone stunt. Tomlinson has been completely blanketed. So lame right now.

Jedieb
Oct 23rd, 2005, 12:39:59 PM
Unbelievable that the Texans came back to tie the Colts. It's not going to stay that way in the second half, but that's 2 straight weeks that Indy's defense has started showing signs of weakness. Philly is driving to get another score before the half. It looks like they've totally shut down LT. I didn't know that Garcia was healthy again. If I'd known he was starting I would have been tempted to pick the Lions, but the Browns are still leading at home. And it looks like the Niners are trying to wrestle the "Worst Team in Football" title away from the Texans.

Yog
Oct 23rd, 2005, 12:41:41 PM
Hehe, being an Eagles fan, you wont get me to say a negative word about them :)

If were going to trash a team, lets trash the Vikings. God damn they look awfull! Oh, not to mention the 49'ers. Right now they are competing for the "worst team in the NFL award". Houston Texans actually gave Colts a fight so far, surprisingly.

Jedieb
Oct 23rd, 2005, 12:49:57 PM
I was trashing the Niners, I didn't say anything about the Eagles except that they were driving to get a score. McNab was looking good, but they made the mistake of going over the middle before the half and the clock ran out before they could set up a sure FG. In a game that seems to be all defense that could be huge. It'll be interesting to see what adjustments the Chargers make at halftime. I can't believe LT can be shut down for the whole game. Meanwhile, the Steelers just got a FG off a Palmer INT. Good defense by the Bengles because the Steelers returned the pic all the way inside the 20.

Yog

I think I saw Torry Holt on the sidelines in street clothes. With Bulger out as well I don't think the Rams have enough to come back on the Saints. Even their Jackson TD was set up by a long pass interference penalty. Meanwhile, Dilfer is having his worst game of the season and the Lions ar up by 3 and driving in the 4th.

Jedieb
Oct 23rd, 2005, 01:36:57 PM
The Chargers are at the Philly 8, so they'll tie this up unless they turn it over. Man, they've completely given up on running the ball. But this close ......... TD to Gates. I thought they'd give LT the ball this close, but Brees has been hot on this drive. Now, if they can get LT going on their next drive they may be able to run out the clock. Now let's see what Philly comes back with.

Rams just got a big completion to get inside the Saints 5. But, with only 11 minutes and down by 10, it may not be enough. 3rd and goal and the Rams get the ball inside the 1. Bulger got his shoulder sprained (or seperated, depends on who you believe) during the Colts game. I don't know what happened to Holt. The Vikings are driving and are just outside the Packers red zone. It looks like Favre and company have cooled off. But with just 4:41 the Vikings need at TD to take the lead.

Yog

Stupid Browns. They had to punt after pinning themselves in deep with a 4th and 26. But there's only 1:18 left, that one is probably done. The Vikings have the ball at the 50 and used their last TO to leave them 8 seconds. Please, don't give up anything on the sidelines.....

San Diego's interior offensive line played terrible the entire game. That makes a difference in the running attack of any team, even with a back like Tomlinson.

The only team that impresses me, even slightly, thus far is Indianapolis. With their improved defense, they should be in the AFC title game at the very least. There's a few other good teams around both conferences, but so much of the league is ridiculously inconsistent, or just plain awful.

I picked the Seahawks and the G-Men, but I sure as hell didn't expect those games to go the way they did. Both Denver and Dallas le those games slip through their hands. Especially Dallas, they the Seahawks dead and buried but couldn't put the ball in the endzone when they needed. And Cortez has got to go. Not like I'm complaining, but can someone explain to me why Bledsoe was passing towards the sideline with the lead, on the road with 5 seconds left in the 4th quarter? Isn't that football 101? Run out the clock? Take a knee? What was that? I didn't see it so I only heard what happened, but I can only imagine that I'm missing something or that I have a detail wrong.

He's DA TUNA!!!! Honestly, the assistant had no business being there and he'd already been told to back up. Ya gotta love cranky old coaches. And speaking of the Tuna Temper, they just cut Choketez. Choketez is lucky, Larry Allen was probably going to get around to killing him sooner or later.

Packers
Yesterday was the nail in this season's coffin. The Pack had a 17 point lead on the road against a division opponent. With that win they still would have been only a game out of the NFC Norris division. To make matters worse, Ahman Green is out for the year. I thought they were ready to make a similar 2nd half run to last year, but that fell apart once they gave that lead away. Sorry Fig.

Chargers
You're the best 3-4 team in the NFL! The Chargers and Marty better find a way to stop losing all these close games. We saw what they're capable of when they beat up on the Patriots in NE. But we've seen them also make a habit of losing close games. They will NOT make the playoffs unless they get over that nonsense.

Eagles
Note to Andy Reed: YOUR QUARTERBACK SHOULD BE ON THE OPERATING TABLE! Go ahead and keep throwing the ball 50 times a game. Yes, short passes to Westbrook are like handoffs, but McNab is hurt and it's only a matter of time before a LB comes free on a blitz and ends your season. You still have to play the Redskins twice and the Cowboys again. Both of those defense have players capable of getting to McNab if you keep throwing like you do.

Redskins
Yes, the Niners would have a tough time against USC, but would last year's Skins have put up 50+ against that team? I think not. Washington's defense is one of the best in the league. If Brunell really is healthy and back to his Jacksonville form then he and Coles may be able to give Washington all the points it needs to take the division from the Eagles and make it to the NFC championship game. Also, Portis is more than capable of putting up 100 yards on a defense.

Whoops, double posted.

Ravens
You suck.

Denver
You DON'T suck. So you got bitten by Manning and the G-Men. It was a road game that you dominated for 3 quarters. Right now, you're the class of a tough division and that defense is strong enough to give the older Manning something to worry about in January. I think Shanahan's post Elway drought is about to end. I still don't see the Broncos in the Superbowl, but they should finally win a playoff game this year.

Dolphins
I hate you.

Dallas
Washington is having the kind of season I thought you were going to have. And it'll goes back to that heartbreaking loss. You gave up 2 4th quarter TD's and you probably gave away a playoff spot in those 3 minutes.

Cleveland
Who cares?

Detroit
Yes, you're better off with Garcia, but who cares?

Steelers
Big win yesterday. You put Cincy in their place. But you're still trailing them.

Bengles
Big loss yesterday. But you're still in first place and Palmer and Johnson are for real. You are no longer the Bungles.

Tampa Bay
I love you, but you had a bye so what can I say? Oh, you lost your starting QB for the season. Big deal, Griese was just treading water. You drafted Simms to be the future, well the future is now. This season can set you up to make a SB run next year with Simms as your boy. The Bucs get back to the playoffs this year even with Simms at QB.

Indy
Undefeated and keeping the Dolphins champagne on ice. Nuff said.

Jedieb
Oct 24th, 2005, 06:31:12 PM
Whoops, got Moss and Coles confused. Oh well, they keep going back and forth. Who can keep track.

Vikings
You might still win that pathetic division. Big deal, you suck.

Bears
While you suck, at least you have legitimate reasons to suck. QB got hurt, young team, etc. Please win that division and put Mike Tice out of his misery.

Lions
Please win that division and put Mike Tice out of his misery.

Cardinals
Who cares.

Jets
Sorry Herm. I'm so, so, so, so, so, sorry. You're a great quote, but your team sucks.

Pats
They're the champs, period. Dracula isn't really dead until the sun hits his walking dead body. I'll believe this team won't be representing the AFC in the Superbowl when I see a playoff schedule and their name isn't on it. Even then I'll still be waiting for Brady and Vinieteri to stroll on the field and win the game, even if they're not invited.

Rams
Bye Martz, you'll never coach another game for the Rams. Secretly, Georgia is saying a prayer thanking the medical gods that gave you that freaky heart infection. The front office won't even forward your phone calls to the sideline. Nobody misses your whacked out play calling and time out management. If you're smart you'll get a offensive coordinator job and never try to drive the whole bus again by yourself.

Atlanta
I love watching Vick play, but you're the best player to watch NOT win a championship. You were clearly the most talented player in that Sugar Bowl, but you still lost. You'll keep doing that in Atlanta until you get a stud wideout or you learn to live in the pocket. Or, someone kills Tom Brady and/or Viniteri. (Yes, I'll spell his name differently every time. He's clutch, but he's still a damn kicker.)

We lost, I can admit it was a tough game on the road but that was pretty crappy officiating. On the game winning TD they had one of their offensive linemen draped all over the d lineman like he was a cape or something. It was such obvious holding that a half blind 90 year old man from the 3rd round of the stands could have called it.

And Plaxico is a dirty player, I have never seen a reciever committ more offensive pass interference calls in my life. God I kind of liked the giants tell i saw their dirty dirty team, now I hate them.

Wow, bored tonight Jedieb? Pretty good breakdowns though, all dead on.

Packers are officially dead, even as weak as that division is they are toast.

I have nothing against the Bronco's but I don't think they are quite over the hump just yet. Don't forget they almost blew a 28-3 lead on the Pats late and did blow a 6pt lead against the Giants.

Honestly that seems to be the biggest trend in the NFL this year, teams with late leads and being unable to hold them. Just this week alone the Bronco's, Cowboys and Chargers all had late leads and lose the game.

As for the Pats, this team isn't done yet. Admittedly they have had ridiculously bad luck on the injury front lately but the bye came at the perfect time, if they get a few Corners back, the Safeties learn to jel and then Bruschi makes his mark that defense could make a huge leap to go with their much improved offense.

Pats vs Colts MNF in 2 weeks....this will be a massive game!

Eh. Admittedly the season is not going as planned. But, Monday night, in Pittsburgh, I feel that the 46 defense will once again show itsself. We saw it briefly against Indy, here and there. But after that it has generally stayed simple... but now its time to embarrass the Steelers on national TV.

Indy-Patriots in 2 weeks. Man, the implications from the result of that game are immense. It can give the Colts homefield through the AFC playoffs or put the Patriots back on top of the heap in everyone's minds, including their own. Can't wait for that one.

The Ravens are a mess. Before the season started I really thought they had a good chance to take that division, in retrospect thats looking like the toughest division in football with the Bengals, Jags, and Steelers to contend with.

Whats the deal with Lewis? The passing game has always been inept but now the running game is too?

Which brings up the new question, which coaches are done at the end of the year?

I would say Martz but it seems he's already done, no way the team brings him back if this interim coach makes this a playoff team.

Billick is a definite possibility, for a supposed offensive genius he has yet to get any real balanced offense going during his tenure.

Vermeil will probably retire on his own.

Tice is as good as gone

Probably others but thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

JMK
Oct 25th, 2005, 07:00:14 AM
Maybe Mike Sherman? A complete house-cleaning in GB? Tough to say with all the injuries (now Ferguson and Green are gone too) but he's got to be a little nervous. Tice is out for sure. Billick is a possibility too, I can't believe how terrible they are offensively. Everyone knows they can't pass the ball so they load up to stop Lewis. Totally inept. And I thought the '04 Dolphins were stinky.

Martz is already done, like you said. How short of a leash is Norv Turner going to be on if the Raiders don't pick it up? I would have put Shanahan on this list after the draft day debacle with Clarett, but at 5-1 he may have saved his job. I also gotta wonder when Mariucci starts to hear rumblings. Yes they're 3-3 and in as good as spot to win the division as ever but they're still the Lions and still pretty incompetent.

Jim Haslett? Tough call. He was on the hot seat before the season started, Katrina may have saved his job for another year. It would be tough for Lombardi to win under those circumstances.

Finally...Mr. Capers in Houston? 0-7 is pretty damn brutal. Hard to excuse that under any circumstances...or are they already tanking games in order to get a shot at Leinart/Bush?

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 25th, 2005, 09:26:42 AM
Capers, Tice and Sherman will all be fired. I think Houston should take Bush with that first pick, I wouldn't give up on Carr, they paid him way too much money to just dump him. Besides he has no weapons around him who knows what he could do. Of course he has no offense line either. Bush would still help them them most.
As for Vermeil its hard to say, he has talked retirement the last two years, if the Chiefs make the playoffs and come close to getting to the SB he might stick around another year. If they fall apart again or win the SB I am 100% sure he will retire.

And speaking of the Chiefs you left them out of your team parade, Jedieb :)

Will the Texans want to do what the Dolphins did last season though? Fire their coach AFTER the season, hire a new one and then get him to learn the team's philosophy, needs and personnel then hand him a top pick? Granted this year's #1 & 2 picks are just about no-brainers, but still...

Right now Dick Vermeil is crying. Because his team is in second place? No. Because he still hasn't gotten over the Spanking the Broncos gave him a couple of weeks ago? No. He's crying because he's a woman trapped in a walking fossil's body watching Terms of Endearment during the hormonal height of his/her menstral cycle. That being said, they're in perfect position to challenge the Broncos for the division. Their next meeting will be in KC and they've got 5 home games left while Denver only has 4. They're not as good as we thought after week 2, but they're better than last year. I expect the Chiefs to get back to the playoffs and act as canon fodder for the Colts and Pats. Congrats Carr!

Jedieb didn't talk about the Niners either, but there really isn't anything good to say. Young QB - they traded the only QB with any experience, and half of the defense is on the IR. The offensive line is pathetic, and they need a running back that can actually run. The Niners will be lucky to match last season's record with two wins. :p

I'd trash talk right now but my damn predicting skills have gone straight to hell. I am like a 90 year old person trying to drive a car who can't remember which is the brake and which is the gas. But when I get my mojo back (I think yogs stole it while I was sleeping) I will smakc talk you tell you are all ready to reban me.

You're right, I apologize.

I wouldn't have to sneak up. The old hip would undoubtedly give way somewhere between the first and second step to the top of the podium, leaving me to the throne by default. :smokin

Can those withered old bones still pick a walker up over your head?
