View Full Version : The bad way to pick up chicks: Car - 1, Man - 0

So, last night, at about 10:30, I left my College Dorm and began heading for the music building to put in some late-night practice on my trumpet - I'm a music major, so I have to do those things. So I get on my bycicle and start across campus. As I'm going along down the road, I come to an intersection. There's a car coming from a ways away, and at our respective speeds, had she kept going straight, it would have been gone before I reached the intersection. It gave no implication that it was going to turn, so I kept going straight, moving over to the other side of the road so as to simplify the turn I was going to make. Out of no where, when I'm about 10 feet from the intersection, this car turns onto the road I'm on, coming straight at me. Of course, I swerved like a maniac to get out of the way, but the car made absolutely no effort to avoid me. In effort to speed up my turn, I leand as far into it as possible, only to find my bike securely nesseled underneath the car's tire. It was several seconds before the driver even rolled down the window to see if I was ok.

Luckily, I had turned far enough that my body was out of harm's way, and I managed to land securely on my feet, no damage done. My trumpet was likewise unharmed - thank the Lord for that! My bike, however... does everyone know what pringles potato chips look like? Yeah. That's my front tire.

So finally this girl rolles down the window, says that she just wasn't paying a bit of attention to where she was going (Really? I never would have guessed!) and apologizes profusely, offering to pay for my bike. I kept my cool, didn't let myself get angry - the Jedi would be proud. Before she left, she gave me her phone number so I could call her if she needed to pay for the repairs. In short, I met a girl, and got her phone number within five minutes, at the cost of my sole means of transportation. Not exactly my favorite way to pick up chicks...

Anyway, in case anyone cares :mneh, I'm alright, no harm done at all. The bike is still ridable, kind of, but it's really hard to get the wheel to start turning and it makes this funny noise like a puppy getting beaten or something... when I speed up, the pitch goes up, too... it's actually very funny to hear :lol . Still, even with the damage done to my bike, this makes for a really funny story :D.

Just don't make this your normal way of trying to get dates. Could get a little expensive :p

Sounds like an awfully expensive way to get a girls phone number :lol

Next time you see her driving you should run away. :) And would you really want to go out with someone who doesn't pay attention to where she's driving and harms bicyclists? :p

I guess that was a bit misleading... I'm not actually going out with her, nor do I plan to in the future. She's quite a bit older than me, and I don't typically go for the wreckless type that try to run over you. I suppose the wording there was a bit awkward, though. That statement was just referring to the fact that I got her phone number. My bad :D.

I'm with Shawn on the "puppy being beaten" thing. Care to tell us how you know what a puppy being beaten sounds like?

I've heard a puppy whining before, and I'd imagine a puppy being beaten would be the same but a whole lot more frantic. That's what my bike sounds like, a puppy whining a lot more frantically than puppies normally whine - like a puppy in convulsions or something. Trust me, I have never witnessed a puppy beating, much less participated in one, and I don't plan to change that.

It's kind of like when you say something tastes like crap. Do you really know what crap tastes like? More than likely, no. But you can make a pretty good guess. Same thing here.
