Jedieb

Jacksonville isn't a bad pick if Charlie Batch is starting, but if Ben or Maddox is starting then it's a pretty big upset. Jacksonville can play them tough, but it's at Heinz field and it's not late Jan. Tough place to win unless you're the Patriots.

As the early games go into the late 3rd and early 4th quarters almost all of them are still up for grabs. There are going to be a lot of dissapointed people this afternoon. We're going to be winning and losing a lot of close games today. The Chiefs just scored a defensive TD to grab the lead from the Redskins, the Cowboys have turned the ball over 4 times, but still have a 1 point lead on the Giants. The Falcons are tied, Cinn. just came back and tied their game. It looks like the only teams with control of their games are the Bears and the Ravens.

sirdizzy
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:40:26 PM
NO just tied their game, god how I hate the saints. They have the talent to be 11-5 but they have the heart of a 1-15 team. They use katrina as an excuse, somedays they play good others they look like a JV or scrubs team. i hate picking all saints games and decided I am picking against them all season from now go atlanta.

sirdizzy
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:46:15 PM
KC is playing pretty gutsy, more to win than just to not lose. 4th and 1 on their own 42 you punt the ball but they went for it and got the 1st down, now they can run 4-5 more minutes off the clock. Although thats a play if you don't get it I'd want a lynch mob to go after my coach, giving them that good of field possition.

sirdizzy
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:48:11 PM
hahahaha, carolina went for in on 4th and 1 at the detroit 4 yard like and failed to convert it instead of kicking the field goal to tie the game

ok I am seeing the same thing all over the place, 4th and 10 on the dallas 26 and the giants go for it and get a 14 yard reception

what is in the water today, 86 yard pass by harrington hahaha man did that 4th and 1 backfire

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:53:44 PM
The Giants handed it off to a rookie and he coughed it up at the 1. Cowboys are running out of the endzone and forcing the Giants to use their TO's. The Giants will get the ball back, but they'll have to start all over again outside the redzone. Bad call by Fox in the Carolina game. That late in the 4th you should go for the tie.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:56:42 PM
The Jags and Steelers are in a battle. 3rd and 9 for the Jags, less than 2 minutes left; 17-17
First down Jags, they're driving for the game winning FG.

sirdizzy
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:57:11 PM
I agree, there are certain places you go for it and others you don't. Cincy 4th and 4 at the tenn 42 and they punted it. To me you go for it in that situation, you are on their side of the field take a chance although cincy just scored again and look to have locked up the win.

balls back on the 24 yard line go giants (only because I picked em to win LOL)

sirdizzy
Oct 16th, 2005, 01:58:06 PM

Oct 16th, 2005, 02:03:11 PM

atlanta about to kick for the win

Oct 16th, 2005, 02:18:56 PM

Stupid Vikings, why do I keep picking you!!!

Yog
Oct 16th, 2005, 02:37:55 PM
The big question mark for me this week is the New England Patriots. They face a Broncos team in good form, but the Patriots can never be discounted. They are tactical experts in winning games like that, road games or not.

Looking good pickem wise, a perfect start so far :)

^^
Edit: scratch that. Steelers messed up

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 02:44:46 PM
8-1 as well, along with all of my piggy backers. Yog and Ryan, have you no shame? Did you guys just cut and paste my picks? ;)

Tough loss for the Steelers. They had Maddox under center, but I'm pretty sure both Ben and Ward were out of the game and that's the difference right there.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 02:55:14 PM
Tomlinson is a absolute stud, 84 yards offense and 2 TD's in the 1st quarter alone.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:02:12 PM
He's the best RB in the league right now. The Broncos just survived a sloppy first half and start the 2nd with a big first down. They were pinned deep in their own territory. At the very least they have to get the ball out of their own red zone. Defensive struggle in Denver, Pats up 3-0.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:03:22 PM
Bills up 14-0 on the hapless Jets. Can the 40year old Jet rescue the team 2 weeks in a row? I doubt it.

Yog
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:04:03 PM
Yog and Ryan, have you no shame? Did you guys just cut and paste my picks?

*gently pats his xerox copy machine* hehe

But no, seriously, I could not bring myself to pick differently. Those were the teams I thought would win, and it seems that was a good decision :)

Tomlinson is a absolute stud, 84 yards offense and 2 TD's in the 1st quarter alone

No kidding. He is one of the few players who actually live up to the pre season fantasy fotball hype, and then some. He deserved every single bit to be picked #1 in most drafts. The guy is an absolute monster. I have him in the fantasy football plus league, and he may singled handedly save the game for me, again.

Yog

There it is boys and girls. The game that will probably decide who wins this week. Denver just rolled off an impressive 97 yard TD drive to go up 7-3. Wow, it looks like Bruschi can't get back fast enough for the Pats. And Denver just got their 7th penalty on a late hit on Brady. Damn Denver, get your heads out of your ........

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:14:55 PM
Denver is playing good, definetly gonna be a long fight for the Pats.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:21:05 PM
Big time throw and catch by Plummer and Lelie. dizzy must be loving this! Denver looks great, but they've got to get these penalties under control. They can't afford to keep giving the Pats extra plays. At this pace they're looking at close to 20 penalties. The keep that number closer to ten and they'll win.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:24:43 PM
Wow Duane Starks sucks, the Pats so need the bye they have coming up to get some bodies healthy.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:25:12 PM
The Broncos are looking really good. It's not just the two TD's, it's that they were both drives of more than 90 yards. Plus, they're the first team this season to keep the Pats from scoring a first quarter TD. To do this in spite of 8 first half penalties is damn impressive. The Pats better respond in this next drive or this could be another AFC West beat down for them.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:28:46 PM
No offense against the Bronco's but their passing game isn't this good, the Pats secondary is this bad. Guys have been wide open all game, just like the last 2-3 games.

JMK
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:29:20 PM
I'm off to a 7-2 start. I'll take that anyday. :D

And I finally got a Dolphins game right!

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:32:09 PM
Looks like Bruschi will be back soon. That'll be a big boost for NE's defense. They need him back and quick.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:36:28 PM
Yeah they do. If they lose this game they will have gone 3-3 with road games against Falcons, Panthers, Steelers and Bronco's. Factor in their injuries and thats not bad at all.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:47:08 PM
Huge run by Bell gets the Broncos in FG range.... scratch that, TD Broncos. Yep, this is turning into a rout. With that defense, the Broncos look to be in great shape for the second half.

Yog
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:48:26 PM
Wow, the Pats are really getting a beating right now.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:49:00 PM
Wierd, seems every other gamet his year the Pats play great then lay a egg the following week.

In theory after their bye they could have Bruschi and their other starting CB's back - Poole & Randall Gay as well as a healthy Biesel and Seymour.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 03:51:11 PM
The rest of the season isn't a piece of cake for the Pats.

Buffalo
Indy
at Miami
New Orleans
at KC
Jets
at Buffalo
Tampa Bay
at Jets
Miami

Getting both Tampa Bay and Miami at home late in the season is a bonus, but they've got tough games against the Colts, the Chiefs at Arrowhead and Buffalo. That's not a schedule that can keep them out of the playoffs, but it's a schedule that's probably going to keep them from winning home field advantage. The TD got called back on replay, but it's first and goal from the 1/2 yard mark. This will probably keep the Patriots from getting the ball back with any time to do anything meaningful.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 04:07:24 PM
That last play was brutal for the Pats. Not only did they miss the FG, but the rookie LG got kicked out of the game for throwing a punch. Brady is going to get hammered in the seond half.

Yog
Oct 16th, 2005, 04:08:38 PM
This sure does not look like Patriots day

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 04:22:31 PM
To be fair with the way the Colts are playing and their cup cake schedule I don't see any way they won't get home field advantage.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 04:31:04 PM
It's not so much that the Patroits are losing, it's that they're getting pummeled. That's 2 times an AFC West team has laid a beat down on them. It's still early, but what's obviously clear is the Patriots don't look like the best team in the league. They haven't looked this bad in the regular season since the last time they missed the playoffs a couple of years ago.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 16th, 2005, 04:36:02 PM
Too many injuries that is just killing them. I am glad KC finally turned it around their schedule gets easier from here, they get Miami and Houston coming up. I think they will beat Miami and Houston well they are the worst team in the NFL.

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:06:00 PM
On the bright side the Pats aren't getting out muscled or dominated, they are just giving up stupid long plays. Hopefully when some people come back these things will take care of themselves.

Pats score, hopefully they can at least get the score respectable looking.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:08:48 PM
10 unaswered points by the Pats and the Broncos haven't gotten a first down in the last couple of drives. They took a breather and eased up after that last TD. They need a drive to eat up some clock and slow the Pats down. Time to step on that Patriots neck and squeeze........

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:11:12 PM
If you want to see a really telling stat, the Pats have not forced a turn-over on defense in I think their last 3 games, possibly 4.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:15:46 PM
That was a risky challenge. That's a time out the Pats really needed. Denver needs to crank out a few more first downs. Even a FG would make it a 3 score game and that would pretty much be the final nail in the coffin.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:26:52 PM
The Patriots are threatening again. There's plenty of time left for them to make Denver sweat. If they score a TD here it's a one score game with around 8 minutes left. Denver has tightened up and that defense now looks like it just can't figure out what BRady and company are doing.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:30:12 PM
Game gets interesting now, only down by 8.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:31:04 PM
And the Pats score a TD. Wow, you can see the Broncos tightening up and the Patriots playing with all the confidence in the world. We'll see just how far Jake has come. Denver needs to play to win, not to eat the clock or get some first downs. They need to play like they're down 8, not up by 8.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:39:17 PM
Denver likes getting in these games like last week with the Redskins.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:39:39 PM
Brady has the ball with now just 75 yards to try and tie the game. The Pats are friggin' Jason and Freddy Kruger rolled into one.

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:51:07 PM
That was a gutsy call by Shanahan. With that first down completion to Smith the game is prety much over. Even with a 3 and out the Pats would have less than 30 seconds left and probably the whole field to drive. Damn, do I hate the Patriots!!!!! :shootin

Lance Casey
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:56:34 PM

Jedieb
Oct 16th, 2005, 05:56:46 PM

jjwr
Oct 16th, 2005, 06:23:24 PM
Great win by the Bronco's. I honestly thought the Pats were gonna have it but Givens dropped a wide open catch which would have gone for some serious yards instead Pats turn the ball over on downs and never get it back.

JMK
Oct 16th, 2005, 06:27:23 PM
The Pats are just being ravaged by injuries right now. And then they lose their guard to a stupid penalty. Things are not going well in New England right now.

jjwr

Nope, to be fair though this is a game they could have easily won. Duane Starks was beaten on all the big passing plays, figure if they even had Ty Poole or Randall Gay then maybe those wouldn't happen and thats not even taking Harrison into consideration. Course no Dillon didn't help either.

Considering their first 6 games and the injuries they've had its not bad to be 3-3. All 6 of their division games are left, all they need to do is get into the playoffs and let Brady, Bill & Vinatieri take it from there.

omg i can't believe it I was trying to pick the Lions to win and I picked BOTH TEAMS to win. So - how do you guys score that? Just pretend I didn't pick for that game or does it count as a loss for me?

So far without it I'm 10-2 (if Seattle does indeed win)

I vote for it to count as a loss, not an empty game. Your total number of games should still match everybody else's. Man, I feel bad for David Carr. That Houston team is just dreadful and it's not the kid's fault.

Everybody has had a good week. If it wasn't for Steelers fumbles, 3 of us would have gone undefeated.

10-3 for the day, again I say it damn those OT games I could have been 12-1, oh well good week picking and indy should win tomorrow

Denver worried me for a bit there, they let up after that huge 3rd quarter TD and the patriots roared back but in the end they got the victory

5-1 is a good place to be

The sad part is once I heard yesterday morning that Roethlisberger and Ward definetly weren't playing I wanted to change my pick but I wasn't around a computer. As it turns out it was a close game anyway.

I would have been tempted to switch my pick, but I still would have gone with the Steelers. Honestly, they should have won that game. I expected more of Maddox. To get a great return like that to open overtime and basically fumble it away, not once, but twice is just uncharacteristic of the Steelers. That was a big division and conference loss for them.

The Colts must be loving the way the Steelers and Pats have been getting bloodied and bruised. But they better keep winning because no one wants to go to Mile High in January.

The coast is clearing very rapidly for the Colts. If Denver gets swept aside at some point then this is their year. If not this year, then never.

I woulda said just void it from the record, but since you wanted Detroit, I'ma say loss.

I'm just looking out for ya LD. If we just ignore the pick then you won't have as many picks as everyone else and you'll be in that second tier of players who haven't been picking all year. I'd rather take a loss than get dropped down into that group.

Tonight could be interesting. Will the absence of Martz's play calling bring some sanity and balance to the Rams offense? Will they finally realize they have two great running backs that can put points on the board? Just how good is that Indy defense? Will Manning finally pass for more than 300 yards?

As flaky as Martz is as a coach I don't see how the team can be any worse off. Like you said maybe he will realize he has two stud RB's and pound the ball like crazy rather than throwing 50 times a game.

Well, 17-0 Rams with 3:31 still left in the first quarter. Yep, we all saw this coming. I wonder if the Rams are in any hurry to get Martz back?

Shocking start to say the least. I guess Payton & friends will have no choice but to revert to their form from last year.

Just about half time, Colts down by 6 now. Manning has only thrown for 88 yards and they are still running the ball like crazy.

I know this is shocking the Rams to me are pathetic so I am very surprised by this first half.

see thats why I think the colts could win the superbowl this year, there defense finally failed em and that offense woke up and slapped the heck out of the rams

Glad I missed some of the game last night and caught Puljos's heroics in Houston. :)

Indy put up a ton of points last night, but the game turned on defense. With that one play Freeney pretty much sealed the Rams fate. He unleashed that wicked spin move and stripped Jackson before he was even out of the backfield. Bulger got hurt on the INT return and that's all she wrote. Martin started out well, but eventually he got picked off a couple of times and Jackson had another fumble I think. After that quick start Indy held the Rams to just a FG until garbage time in the 4th. They couldn't do that last year.

Another thing I noticed, that's not the first time the Rams have put up big points on a Dungy defense. Yeah, they had that classic defensive battle in the NFC Championship game way back, but since then most of the Bucs and Rams games were high scoring affairs. That and the fast Indy track helped the Rams get off to a strong start. I still think Indy now has one of the better defenses in the league, not the best, but they finally have a top 10 defense.

Who knows how that game would have gone if Bulger had stayed in, he was definetly on and moving the Rams mostly at will against that defense.

Colts played well though, but I must say it makes me shake my head looking at their first 6 game schedule and comparing it to the Pats first 6 games. I know they say there are no conspiracies but I guarantee you the league would love to get Manning into the Superbowl.

No doubt there. It's easy to ridicule conspiracy theorists but sometimes there's just too much of a case to be made.

True. Both are having Phenominal seasons this year. It shcoked me that Davis went in the 25th roud. Before his injury, he was Carolina's number 1 back, and if I remember, was pretty damn good, if injury prone.

I can ridicule this one. They're the Superbowl champs, they're SUPPOSE to have the toughest schedule in the league. Their start was brutal, but they still get Indy in New England in a few weeks. And is it Indy's fault that Baltimore laid an egg at home to start the season? Later in the year the Colts will have to play Pittsburgh, San Diego and Seattle. The first 2 are in Indy but they'll have to go to Seattle and the Seahawks play well at home. Indy's got some tough games, it's not a cheesy schedule. Nobody has a tougher schedule than the Pats, but nobody is SUPPOSE to have a tougher schedule than them. But even with that tough start, you can argue that the second half of NE's schedule is a joke. The only playoff teams from last year are the Jets and Colts. And look at the Jets now. Is that a conspiracy? Nope, it's just the way it's worked out.
