Although do I ever feel guilty about picking the Niners to lose, especially since they're playing the Cowboys. :cry

Atlanta at Buffalo
Jacksonville at NY Jets
New Orleans at Minnesota
NY Giants at San Diego

These games are just killing me. All 4 home teams are favored, but the visitors look good to me. Going with roadies is always dangerous, but I can't help myself.

Atlanta V. Bills
How healthy is Vick? He seems to be doing better but Buffalo isn't an easy place to play. So far, last year's defense hasn't shown up for Buffalo. They've given up a lot of yards on the ground and Atlanta loves to run the ball. Plus, they've got a problem at QB. They had to go to Holcombe last week and I don't see things getting better at that position.

Jags V. Jets
If the Jags could go to Indy and shut down Manning, then what are they going to be able to do to Pennington's rubber rotator cuff? Leftwich got banged up by Indy but he's still going to start. What defense does he go up against, the one that got man handled by the Chiefs or the one that held the Dolphins to a TD? And is holding the Dolphins to a TD something to be even proud of?

Saints at Vikings
The Saints are going to be a road team all year long. This week is especially tough. They just got done with a farce of a home game at Giants Stadium and it's a short week to boot. Now they have to travel to the Metrodome, but should anybody be afraid of the Vikings? It's not just the absense of Moss that killing them. Moss missed games last year but the Vikings never looked this bad without him. I think the loss of Matt Burk has been devastating. Without Moss teams are bringing in some extra help to stop the run and without Burk at center the line doesn't seem able to deal with the extra defender. This is just killing Culpepper. Yeah, the guy has small hands and fumbles alot, but he's NEVER thrown INT's like this. Before this horrible start he was the 3rd highest rated passer of all time. He's seen that rank tumble 2 spots. He can't keep playing this poorly all season, can he?

NY Giants at San Diego
I like what I saw from the Giants on Monday night. Still, San Diego is desperate at 0-2. They could have won both of the games they lost. They could find themselves in a huge hole with another early home loss. Last year I probably would have gone with the Giants, but I'm not as eager to trust road teams as I use to be.

I think that the Chargers are very desperate. If they loose this one it will be very hard to come back.

Hahaha, I have been bashing Culpepper left and right. And what is the first thing he does the moment I put him on the bench? He pass a touchdown of course. Like a few seconds after the game starts. Maybe this will be a turnaround game for him.

Good luck to you all, this should be an exciting evening :)

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:11:48 PM
Don't worry, I had Williamson as well and knew he was going to start but I figured no way he would have a good game. Whoops!

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:16:24 PM
Why do they schedule Late Games for 4:05 or 4:15? I'm sitting here missing the start of the Pats game beacuse the Jets & Jags are so inept in OT that they can't score. Late games should be 4:20 at the earliest.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:37:03 PM
Ok so the game ends and then they waste another 15 minutes on the end of the Eagles & Raiders game? And have the nerve to show a quick clip of the Pats & Steelers game which is 7-7 first quarter, then a 2 minute commercial break....grrrr

JMK
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:39:23 PM
Yeah that's a drag for Pats or Steelers fans around here.

Is it me, or is Pennington's stock falling faster than Tom Sizemore's pants at a brothel? He's got a bad shoulder, but boy he has been BAD news for the Jets. I wonder if it will be Fiedler time in the Meadowlands soon. :lol

So now I'm 0-3 in dealing with both the Dolphins AND the Panthers. But this week I don't mind so much. :D

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:41:41 PM
You should have DirecTV. Then you would have seen the Pats and Steelers trade TD's in HD glory! :evil

Scary sight for Pats fans, big hitter Rodney Harrison is being carted off the field. That's yet another loss for your defense. Anyone else do well this afternoon? I'm 7-2 so far. :)

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 02:42:06 PM
Uh oh Pats just lost Harrison, this could be bad. Course they had a bunch of injuries against the Steelers last year.

Still early which is good but now their secondary is getting hammered again.

He was horrible today, I'm curious who they have at 2nd string as they are supposed to be a contender this year but not with Pennington playing that poorly.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:02:46 PM
And the Dolphins beat the Panthers. And they wonder why these things are hard to pick from week to week.

JMK
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:09:27 PM
I think Fiedler is their 2nd stringer.

You're right, picking the winners/losers of this league is getting harder every year. And I've said that for 3 straight years now. It seems the more you follow the game and the players, the more than info plays with your mind and ruins your picks.

Brady fumbled, then the Steelers gave it right back. :x

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:09:37 PM
Wow, Pats were just saved there by a really stupid play, down 17-7 and they would have been down hard.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:13:35 PM
The Steelers may end up regretting that. They could have put NE down 2 scores. Now the Pats have a chance to keep that Steelers defense on the field and wear them down. Damn, more injuries for the Pats.

Ryan Pode
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:15:53 PM
How'd Rodney get hurt?

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:17:58 PM
It looked like he twisted his ankle in a pile. And is there a worse team to lose your right tackle against than the Steelers? The Pats were doing a good job of picking up the blitz uptil now, but you know the Steelers are just going to be letting the dogs loose on Brady's blind side now.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 03:39:15 PM
Pats are getting all the bad breaks right now, course its only the 3rd game of the season and they are definetly holding their own against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:24:28 PM
4th and 1 in their own territory, down 5, only in the 3rd quarter and the Cowboys faked a punt, then went into a run formation, and proceeded to turn the ball over on downs. Stupid, stupid, stupid play call.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:26:07 PM
That wasn't a bad break, that was a dumb play. The Pats defense has to make a stand here or things are going to get really rough.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:26:31 PM
The Eagles should have won that game easily, makes me wonder how how good they are. Especially since KC handled them better than Philadelphia did. If I were Eagle Fans I be worried by what the Chiefs will do to them next week :evil. I can't figure the Panthers out they are the most inconsisent team in the NFL, I think Sports Illustrated cursed them.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:29:48 PM
Holding them to a FG was the big for NE, being down more than 6 would be tough.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:29:56 PM
Where is that game, in Philly or KC? I think those teams are even enough to go with the home team. KC has a tough roadie tomorrow at Denver. I don't care how inconsistent the Broncos look, it's still Mile High.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:31:44 PM
Pats held, down only 6.

I'm sorry but the Steelers aren't impressing me, Big Ben is a solid QB but he can't win a game, he has yet to do it. He's a bigger Trent Dilfer, relying on a killer defense and pounding running game. His big throw of the day was about a 15 yard crossing pattern that Ward broke for 85.

Pats are killing themselves in this one, take away the 3 turnovers and they should be up by about 20. Thats the way things fall though :)

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:39:01 PM
I give Dilfer more credit than most, but Big Ben is a MUCH better QB than he is. I have seen him win games. He pulled out a few games last year with his arms and his legs. And this year he's started out with a perfect passer rating because he's accurate and doesn't screw up. Is he struggling against the Pats? Yeah. But the list of QB's who've struggled against that defense is as long as my Johnson. Look at Brady today, he's not setting the world on fire, he almost got picked off again. I'm not going to judge him on this game though.

Jedi Master Carr

The game is in KC, they are tough in arrowhead. I know about Mile High (I refuse to call it that crappy name.) Vermeil has never won there as the Chiefs head coach. He is 0-4, I think he is due, and I think the players want to win for him there.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:49:41 PM
True, he is better than Dilfer that was a bit much. The problem with Ben though is most teams aren't good enough to shut down the run and make him throw to beat them. 1st two games they rushed 73 times and Ben hardly had to throw, he only threw 11 passes in the 1st game. Yes he was accurate but when your defense is that good and your running game that dominant you don't need to throw.

Obviously its great for the Steelers, yeah boring to watch but its obviously very effective.

I will say, and it just happened again he has shrugged off some serious hits by the Pats, Seymour almost just got him and he kept running. He is ridiculously strong.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:52:21 PM
I don't think Pittsburg is that good, they will not make it to the SB with that offense. I think the colts could give them a run. If KC's defense is for real they could too.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:53:28 PM
The play that he got hurt on in the first half was impressive. He was wrapped up and should have gone down, but still managed to throw the ball away and avoid the sack. He's going to get better. Meanwhile, the Niners and Cowboys are in a wild one, 26-31 in the 4th. Dallas is punting with over 12 min. left in the game.

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 04:54:28 PM
And he just did it again, he keeps avoiding the sacks, thats been huge.

Course he throws it right to Seymour and he drops it...that one hurt.

jjwr

Ouch after the first pass of the game Big Ben is 5 of 16 for 75 yds. Course the D is carrying them which is unfortunate.

Impressive drive. I want to see how the Steelers respond now. A lot of time on the clock so the run doesn't have to be abandoned.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:06:25 PM
Good drive by the Pats. I disagree about Big Ben avoiding sacks like that, their are times when it is better to just take the sack. You are flirting with danger throwing the ball to nobody like that.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:10:19 PM
What a HUGE first down. If they punted there Dwight probably would have taken the return right into FG range.

Eldorack

OMG...this Dallas game is intense.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:15:39 PM
Rothlesburger had two bad throws in that series and it cost the Steelers big time. They're lucky NE didn't get a big return on that punt.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:16:13 PM
And the Cowboys just scored a TD and a 2 pt conversion! Sweeeeeet. :)

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:17:16 PM
Big Ben is playing horrible, of course most of that has to do with NE defense. They are putting some big time pressure on him. The Dallas game is strange. I don't get the Niners they are almost like the panthers.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:19:49 PM
You have to admire NE"s play calling. Most teams would just try to run the clock out on the ground, especially with their starting LT out. The Steelers look like they're on their heels. They're already in FG range.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:25:08 PM
Last chance for the Steelers. I think they really blew it by not running more on that last series. They've got all their time outs so they can still try to break off a couple of runs, but the last defense in the world you want to go against in this situation is the Pats.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:27:49 PM
Again, why aren't they RUNNING the ball? 2nd and 3 on the other side of the 2 minute warning you can RUN the ball! Meanwhile, looks like the Cowboys have wrapped up their game. Great catch for the Steelers, but that ball could have been thrown better.

You know, if this were a Superbowl the Steelers would score before the 1 minute mark and then Viniteri would hit the longest FG in Heinz Field history to win the game.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:38:53 PM
They're not going to like that call in NE, but it was a good one. Gutsy play call. Now, RUN the ball on first to get the clock moving.

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:40:33 PM
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! Game over. I'm not even going to watch the end, I've seen it before. Viniteri wins the game with a clutch FG. Well, at least Ward gave me some big Fantasy numbers today.

Yog
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:42:42 PM
Well, its not over before its over. I am personally rather excited about Ward today. He could save me a game in one of the fantasy leagues. :)

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:46:06 PM
It's OVER. I said it earlier, the Pats would win because the Steelers would score too quickly. Good lord, why don't some coaches use the clock better. Run the damn thing down before you start going for the endzone. The Pats are already in FG range. Now the Steelers called a TO because they know the FG is a done deal.

Lilaena De'Ville
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:47:18 PM
You know, I was feeling really good about my 49ers pick until the last 2 minutes of the game. Brutal interception thrown by Rattay to end the game. We really played well but let up in the 4th which ruined us.

8-4 right now, only because of the late games. Dumb Panthers and Saints, I hate picking those teams. Jax-Jets I knew was a toss up, and Cincinnatti-Chicago was a push game too, IMO. Now need the Chargers and Chiefs to win :)

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 05:59:34 PM
Congrats jjwr, looks like the Pats gave you the week. I think there may be one person who can tie you, but you can't lose this week. Friggin' Pats! :shootin

jjwr
Sep 25th, 2005, 06:14:24 PM
Vinatieri!!! He's the man.

I saw the clock after the Steelers scored - 1:21 left, exact same amount of time as their first Superbowl. With the way the Pats were moving the ball in the air I knew the had a great shot.

Big Ben had a great game, the Pats were all over him all day and he managed to tie the game at the end.

My first good week picking too!

Jedieb
Sep 25th, 2005, 07:05:42 PM
Still, you saw the difference between Ben and Brady. I think Brady was 12 for 12 in the fourth quarter. And like no other QB in the league he throws soft accurate passes that don't force his receivers to make great catches. This was a huge win for the Pats. They still have some tough games ahead of them and they needed to bounce back from last week.

7-3 San Diego. The Chargers responded to that early Giants score and they've got the ball again. Let's see if LT runs them over again.

9-4 for me as well and I will be one of the few that will get the monday game right

I know we got a lot chief lovers here but for the love of pete guys the game is in Denver. KC doesn't win in Denver, like Denver doesn't win in KC. These teams split the home series almost every freaking year

Denver sucks this year though and the Chiefs are playing killer defense and their offense is on a roll.

Don't forget that Tampa Bay never wins in Green Bay either...

Exactly. The Chiefs will eventually win one in Denver, and Denver will eventually win in K.C. Why not tonight? Like jjwr said, KC's offense is rolling, their D is playing well and the Broncos are scrambling play after play. For God's sake they lost to Miami!

Well Plummer has looked terrible in his first two games, and none of Denver's running backs scare me. They have no Portis or Davis any more. Anderson and Bell wouldn't start for most teams. And their Brownie defensive line is a big joke. Still, I am worried because of KC's past there they have had some problems winning there. Though the last time they vistited Mile High on Monday night they won (of course one of the greatest QBs, Joe Montana, was playing for them at the time). So who knows I am hopeful they will win but we will see.

Jedieb
Sep 26th, 2005, 10:42:05 AM
I want to see how good that Chief's defense really is tonight. At some point in the game tonight they're going to see vintage Plummer, and they have to make the Broncos pay when Jake throws the inexplicable INT. They also have to hammer the ball with Holmes and Johnson. Denver has to shut down the run on first down and force Green into 3rd and long. They need to slow down the running game so their defense doesn't get worn out.

The Chiefs also have to make sure they don't injure themselves by slipping and falling in their sideline puddles. PUDDLES MADE BY DICK VERMEIL'S FEMININE TEARS!!!!!!!!

JMK
Sep 26th, 2005, 12:00:19 PM
Yeah, as long as they make Plummer pay for the boneheaded mistake that he's bound to make they'll be fine.

Can someone explain to me what the deal is with Plummer and that friggin moustache of his? He looks utterly foolish. Who would take him seriously in the huddle? I hope he lost a bet or something.

ummm guys did any of you watch the San Diego/Denver game last week they held LT the best running back in the game to 53 yards, now all of a sudden for some reason all you guys think they can't stop the run its unexplicable.

I have been impressed with the revamped defensive line they are actually getting pressure on the qb something they struggled mightingly hard last year to do, Its the offense that has me worried because I have yet to see them play better than a scrubs team.

jjwr
Sep 26th, 2005, 01:16:01 PM
Schottenheimer held LT to only 53 yards by horrible game planning. They unleashed him this week and look what happened.

Ryan Pode
Sep 26th, 2005, 01:37:19 PM
Denver = 19 rushes, 52 yards TWO touchdowns

NYG = 28 touches (21 rushes, 6 catches, 1 completion) 246 yards, 4 TDs.

The different distrubition (i.e. the receptions, passing) allow him to get more open with the run game. Not to mention Keenan McCardle and Antionio Gates had much better games, which also helped open up the passing game.

Right now Denver's rush D is ranked 22nd. They're going up against a rush offense that's ranked #3. It doesn't take much to figure out this could be a mismatch. They might have only given up 79 yards to the Chargers, but the Dolphins rang up over 150. I think KC is going to be much closer to 150 than 80. Without HF advantage the Chiefs would be close to a TD favorite.

Word just came in that Rodney Harrison is out for the year. Ouch. That could be the blow that keeps the Pats from three-peating.

As weak as the AFC East is looking I can see them winning the divion and making the playoffs but repeating against the likes of Manning, etc will be tough without Harrison out there.

That's funny, I read that and all I hear is; "Pats face their yearly injury hurdles but still continue to win when they're not suppose to.":|

Yes, that a HUGE loss, but the ONE team in the league that can deal with this is the Patriots. It SHOULD cost them, but I'll believe it when the clock hits 0:00 in January and they're on the short end of the score.

Seriously, this game is just ugly personified. The Broncos have been all over the field all night long. Green looks like Fiedler out there and the KC O line looks reminiscent of the Dolphins' turnstile crew of the '04 season. I don't get how you can look so good for 2 weeks and then stink up the joint just because you have trouble in a certain stadium. The Chiefs are really taking a lot of D-U-M-B penalties as well.

final stats KC 22 attempts for a paltry miserable 74 yards

oh thats right those rankings are stupid BS, denver has the #3 defense in the entire nfl last year and that didn't stop indy from racking up 40+ points against them

The difference to this Denver defense and last years is they are getting pressure on the QB, their were moments in that playoff loss last year where manning had 10-15 second to disect the denver D. You saw it tonight by pressuring Green they forced turnovers and had the game in hand forcing KC to abandon their running game.

Call em the browncos or whatever you want that denver front 4 is getting to the qb and pushing the oppossing Oline around.

Now like I said before I don't think this says anything about denver or KC either. Denver wins in Denver, KC wins in KC simple fact of the afc west.

Ryan Pode

The difference was the 17-0 hole KC was in during the first quarter. They had to pass, Trent Green dropped back about 45 times. Thats never the formula for success.

They really missed Roaf in that game. That Black who replaced was terrible. Also I guess I will have to give Dizzy that one, KC almost always plays bad in Denver unless Denver really sucks like in 99 and 95 (both of those years Denver got killed in mile high by KC) or in 94 when Montana pulled off a miracle there. I bet KC kills Denver in Arrowhead later this year. Also Denver need the win a lot more, 2 games out would have been a deathnail for them. It doesn't hurt KC since they had to be 2-2 by the bye. Right now it looks the AFC battle will between KC and Denver now. I still think KC can beat Philly parly because I think the NFC is so inferior to the AFC its ridiculious. The AFC will slaughter the NFC this year.

JMK
Sep 27th, 2005, 12:23:12 PM
Well if the Dolphins beating the Panthers is any indication of things to come then you're right. The NFC will get their nads handed to them.

sirdizzy
Sep 27th, 2005, 01:28:36 PM
The NFC has been inferior for a number of years evidenced by the fact that since breaking that 13 year streak the afc has gone 6-2 in the superbowl.

I don't think San Diego is entirly out of the hunt but that 0-2 hole they dug is going to be hard to bounce back from and they can only blame themselves as Denver tried hard to let them win last week.

I will probably pick denver when they play in KC as I just can't bring myself to pick against them but I am pretty sure they will get whalloped at arrowhead like they always do.

I didn't even stay up to watch the end of the 4th quarter. The Chiefs didn't put up much of a fight in the 3rd and the Yanks were way ahead so I got to get a decent night's sleep on a Monday for a change.

It looks like the Jets are toast. Pennington, my fantasy QB, is probably done for the year. They're bringing in Testerverde to play for them. Their season could spiral out of control soon. That could clear the way for the Dolphins to make a run at a WC. I'd hate to play the Dolphins with that Jets offense.
