I think Arizona is just better talent than St. Louis.

I also think Green Bay is completely inept on the O-line and lacks an semblance of a top 31 defense, so I think Romeo Crennel will outcoach Mike Sherman.

Baltimore, Philly, the Jets, and Chargers will all rebound.

The Jet's will have the hardest time winning I think, as long as Pennington is in as he looks weak and uncomfortable in the new offense.

The Chargers are a quality team and the Broncos are the Browns Redux.

49ers played a great game against a poor Rams team, but the Eagles are too good and too well coached to lose two in a row.

The Ravens should be able to move the running game now that Jamal Lewis should be out of preseason mode and into regular season mode. Jim Fassel will probably give a better running game after last weeks aireal assault.

Indy at home, ya gotta like especially with defense.

Detriot should be able to take on Chicago's weak offense with their defense and be able to score points.

And the Saints are just playing inspired ball and should win.

And the Skins just suck.

I see only 2 people went with the Bears at home. They're up 10-6 in the first quarter. The shocker is not only that the Bears are up, but that they've scored 10pts. We'll see if this upset holds up, good news for Fig if it does.

The Bengals are PASTING the Vikings. The Vikings look simply dreadful. The absence of Moss isn't just killing their passing attack, it's stuffing their running game as well. In Philly the San Fran revival has come crashing down to reality, 0-28. The Colts meanwhile are getting shut out in the first half again by another tough AFC defense. Wow, the Bears just scored a long TD to go up 24-6 on the Lions! Surprise, surprise.

Yog

Remember how I mentioned in the fantasy thread how I traded C. Johnson for Culpepper in one of the leagues I am playing in? Well, viewing the stats from the Cincinatti/Minnesota game, that trade is starting to look like the worst ever >_<

Seriously, what happened to Culpepper? He is playing like rank 12 pick QB, a far cry from MVP candidate. The Minnesota offense looks absolutely horrible.

Oh, yeah, and it utterly sucks that I was thinking picking the "upsets" Chicago and Tennessee, but changed my mind in the last minute :x

Jedieb

Joey Harrington is vomit in a football uniform. Only Boller deserves more ridicule. He just threw up a INT for TD to Mike Brown, 6-31 Bears. Anyone think Harrington will finish the season as the starting QB in Detroit?

And what happened to Peyton Manning. He does not excactly look MVP worthy either..

Both Carolina and the Jags have stud defenses. Although I am surprised that the Colts haven't been able to get anything going at home with that turf. The Jags did beat them at Indy last year when they split their series. The good news for the Colts is that their defense continues to play well. Even if the Pats lose, they're fine. They're losing to a tough defensive football team on the road, no shame there.

lmao.... it's one game, Yog. Every team has sloppy games. The Pats are still the team to beat in the AFC.

Jacksonville's defense has gotten a lot better over the last two years. If you remember, they beat the Colts in Indianapolis last year. I'm not really suprised by that 0-0 tie at the half.

Today only proves two things:

1) The dreaded "p" word is still rampant in the NFL.

2) Like preseason rankings in college football, preseason picks for division winners mean precisely squat.

Let's wait about a month before we start predicting the rise or demise of any teams. We all should know how quickly things can change in this league.

Pats losing to Carolina in Carolina isn't the end of the world. Regardless of last week they are a very good football team. Pats are really killing themselves more than anything else, dropped balls, overthrown balls, penalties, etc.

Harrington sucks, with those weapons he should be putting up monster numbers. I'd be suprised if he lasts the rest of the game as the starter.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 01:19:47 PM
The Colts are down a FG but are putting together a nice drive right now. Edge is all over the place and making some really great runs. They're in FG range right now. Man, Carson Palmer and Owens are having huge games and are burying me in Fantasy Football.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 01:33:52 PM
The Colts just took the lead with a drive in which they ran the ball down the Jags throat. You have to think that might loosen up that secondary the next time they get the ball. Meanwhile, the Titans continue to stun the Ravens, 3-16. What's up with that?

jjwr
Sep 18th, 2005, 02:01:10 PM
Pats are really sucking this game, it reminds me of the Steelers game last year when they just couldn't do anything right. Tons of penalties, uncharacteristic throws by Brady, etc.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 02:06:56 PM
The Colts held off a last minute drive by the Jags and won 10-3. Leftwich was getting hammered in that last drive but he kept getting up and was throwing in the end zone at the end of the game. Looks like the Panthers have the ball with just over 4 minutes to go. They've got the ball and a big 3rd and 6 coming up. If they convert here that's another couple minutes off the clock... no, incomplete and the Pats will get the ball back with plenty of time to make things interesting.

Man, a couple of teams just fell flat on their face today, mainly the Vikings and the Lions. The Ravens just put up a late score, but a loss against a weak Tenn. team doesn't bode well. At least they're going into a bye week and have some time to righten the ship.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 02:13:12 PM
That fumble seals the deal for the Panthers. Watson was trying to make a play, but he got hammered. Wow, I had flirted with picking this upset, but I got burned by the Pats too many times last year. Still, it's a road game and out of the conference. Good news for the Colts though. They've weathered two tough defenses and come out with wins in both of them.

jjwr
Sep 18th, 2005, 02:16:41 PM
I figured going into the game it was 50/50 for the Pats, they just came out flat and only lost by 10. They really killed themselves this game with the turnovers.

Honestly though it doesn't bother me, as much as the Pats have won I can't get upset about this loss :)

Vikings yes.. have I mentioned so far in this thread how much they suck?

Now for some football trivia:

Which QB have made 0 passing TDs, a wonderful total of 8 interceptions, getting sacked 4 times and having an awesome combined total of -4 points these 2 last weeks on a team I have. Im benching him next week...
The answer is Culpepper

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 03:36:27 PM
He looks completely lost out there at times. Methinks he misses #84.

hey, could someone remind Jake Plummer and the Broncos that they're playing the Chargers at HOME? Holy crap did they look inept in that first half. They should have easily driven down and gotten a FG at the end of the half. The crowd is all over them and rightly so. This should be the season that forces Pat Bolen to lop off the GM portion of Shanahan's brain. Enough is enough, it's time to get someone to take care of the front office and let Mike S. concentrate fully on coaching.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 05:10:37 PM
How about Atlanta? They looked great Monday and played average today against a so-so seattle team. Says a lot about parity today. Really the surprise teams are the Ravens and Vikings, although the Broncos could join them. And what about the NFC North and West? Those two divisions look horrible. I think Seattle will win the west by default (Arizona looks bad still and the Rams look pathetic as well). I have no idea who will win the NFC North now, put the 4 teams in a hat and pick out the winner lol. Although Green Bay looks horrible, it is pretty bad to lose to Cleveland. Farve probably wishes he retired last year.

jjwr
Sep 18th, 2005, 05:12:51 PM
Holy Parity Batman!! Not much conclusive this weekend, even the 2-0 teams weren't exactly dominant. Steelers won by a comfortable margin but the Texans are horrible. Colts scratched out another tough win, they could be for real this year.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 05:18:35 PM
I am curious to see how KC looks tonight. If their defense show anything, heck they have a chance to be one of the dominant teams, with that offense. Especially since SD and Denver both don't look that good. Denver just beat the Chargers barely. Looks like SD is starting to choke, I think they were a fluke last year. Denver well they aren't that good. So I waiting to see what happens after tonight's game.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 06:13:25 PM
Hey, how about some love for my Bucs? The defense has had two back to back solid games, the rookie RB looks great, and the Griese is playing steady QB. I think the key for them will be to manage a split with the Panters and the Saints, but they could surprise some people.

Rough day with pics. I've squeaked out an 8-5 record so far I think. I believe Ryan is in the lead right now. I need KC, the Giants, and the Cowboys to come through for me.

Figrin D'an
Sep 18th, 2005, 06:30:54 PM
This is going to be a very frustrating first half of the season for a lot of fans. So many teams are either too unpredictable to know if they are actually good or not, or just look so terrible right now that there are few positives to give one hope.

There was a lot of really bad football today. There were a few bright spots, but there was so much ineptitude by so many teams, it's hard to see through a lot of the garbage.

It's a good thing I convinced myself back in June that the Packers were probably going to be a .500 team this year and little better. Makes their crappiness thusfar easier to handle. The really sad thing, though, is that they still have a better than average change to win the NFC North. (Chicago may have the final say, though. They have the defense to take the division, as long as Kyle Orton gets a little bit better each week. He played pretty well today.)

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 06:34:08 PM
I am 7-6 right now, I am doing okay considering the crazy games.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 06:37:56 PM
NFC Norris Division
Chicago 1-1
Detroit 1-1
Green Bay 0-2
Minnesota 0-2

Write it down, I'm predicting someone will win this division with a 7-9 record!

I can't see a single one of these teams running away with the division. Remember the year Chicago came out of nowhere and won 13 games? It's possible they could catch lightning in a bottle and win most of their divisional games. Today was a big win and they scored every way imaginable. I feel bad for Favre and the Packers. Now that Walker is gone I don't see how they can get a consistent offense going. The offense got them back in the game today but the defense gave up that long TD at the end of the game that just killed them. As for the Vikings, I think we all underestimated how badly Moss's absence was going to effect that offense. Culpepper looks horrible. Defenses are playing him and that offense completely differently without Moss there. They can't run, no one can get open, and the defense is back to being a seive. Mike Tice may want to start contacting real estate agents soon.

Ryan Pode

Lance Casey

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 07:03:02 PM
Going with St. Louis gave me a leg up, but I got lucky there, that game could have gone either way. Collins just fumbled after overthrowing a wide open Moss. Still, I'm impressed by the Chiefs D. They look much better than last year. But, they need to get a big lead early. The Raiders showed they could move the ball last week and early on that drive.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 07:26:04 PM
14-7 now KC. Johnson had a great run there. What hurt that Raider drive was the punt return that made it tough.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 07:28:02 PM
I have no doubts that the Raiders are going to put some points this year, but I haven't seen a thing that leads me to believe that they've done much to improve that defense. It looks like Holmes is okay. Man, that's a loaded backfield when a guy like Priest goes down and he's replaced by a stud like Johnson.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 08:12:00 PM
Yeah I know it is great to have a back up like that. Really the chiefs defense played very good in that last drive by the Raiders. Derrick Johnson is everywhere the guy is amazing. Best LB in KC since Derrick Thomas died. 17-10 right now, biggest problem for the Chiefs have been short yardage, part of that problem is Roaf is out for this game (should be back next week) that is hurting on the 3 and 1's. I would think about play actioning and throwing to Gonzalez.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 08:30:50 PM
Good defense play by your boy from South Florida Jedieb :) Mitchell looks like he is finally turn the corner and becoming a good LB. Also who else is missing Patrick and company? Sharpe is awful. And Tricio isn't really made for play by play.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 08:33:57 PM
That South Florida nod brought a smile to my face. Way to go Mitchell!!!! :crack

Moss was robbed on that pass interference call but the holding call was legit. That return by Hall that was called back was amazing, he really is a freak. Good defensive stand to start the second half. Kenison is on my fantasy team so I need him to make some plays here!

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 08:38:35 PM
Two observations on that TD;
1) Randy Moss really is a freak.
2) Was that Al Davis, or a dead man with a towel on his lap?

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 08:55:40 PM
Davis looked really old. At least the Chiefs got a FG there, those two holding pentalities killed them. Black is young guy so I chalk that up as inexperience. Are you hating Sharpe? The guy is a horrible anouncer he keeps saying the same things, he is obviously not cut out for calling games.

Jedieb
Sep 18th, 2005, 09:09:53 PM
He should be grateful ESPN took him back. Last time I saw him he was slumming on the NFL Network. Stopping the Raiders after that FG was key. A TD here and the Raiders would be really. Big 3rd and 10 coming up for KC.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 18th, 2005, 09:14:49 PM
Another FG the only good thing about these last two drives has been time of possession. At least they are eating up clock, if they can stop them they could possibly win the game with a long drive. One thing KC has a better kicker than Oakland, Janx I guess has been smoking too much of something :p

That fumble by Parker hurt, he should have stayed down and he would have the first down instead he tried to be cute and couldn't hold on to the ball. Need a big stop here.

If they're going to score a TD you want them to do it quick. Worst case scenario is that the Raiders score and bleed the clock dry.

HUGE STOP!!!!! I hate to agree with Sharpe, but why didn't he throw to Moss?

Moss is doing a great job this game.

Congrats Carr. The Raiders are going to kick themselves tonight. They'll think of all the opportunities that they blew and the calls that went against them. But until they start playing smarter football they're going to lose a lot of games like this. How big was that first down to seal the game by Holmes? That's one of the things that makes KC dangerous, that they can run the ball when everyone in the stadium knows they have to run. The Raiders should have been able to stop them and get the ball back with a few seconds, but the Chiefs (even without Roaf) were able to run to the left side of that line and crank out a big run. Game over. I'm at 9 wins!

I like some of Sterlings comments. :(

"He took half of Missouri with him" thats gold right there.

Great stop by the defense. I bet they had Moss double covered. Everytime they showed Moss that last drive two guys were all over him. I agree about Holmes great run there at the end to seal the game. He had a very quite game but he made a big difference with some of his runs. Now on to Denver next monday night. I think they can beat the Broncos they look weak right now.

I thought Turico said that? He just got annoying like he kept saying throw to Moss, he seemed to be in love with him or something to at times, it got irrating. He also seemed like a Raider broadcaster which I guess what bothered me. Still they won, I don't care now :)

Denver played like a junior varsity middle school team and still won which is promising to me. I have to worry a little about the chargers because they should have easily won this game as the denver offense tried their hardest to give the game to them.

The defense played great though the entire second half and that is again very promising to me. Denver should eventually work their offensive kinks out and if their defense plays like that they could contend.

I personally loved the announcing team, course compared to the usual ESPN announcers a couple of said JV Middle School announcers could do a better job than the horrible regular 3 man team.

To me it seems ESPN can't get good announcers. I couldn't take the Theismann/Maguire grouping, and the 2 guys last night sounded more like local broadcasters than national guys. They were sooooo boring. That being said it was a relief not to hear Maguire say "I'll tell you what" after every play.

Yup, it really comes down to who your comparing them too. The Macguire/Theisman combo is just horrible so anyone will look good compared to them.

Just thought I'd make mention of NT's former stud linebacker Brad Kassel who who had like 7 tackles yesterday and a pick six vs Baltimore yesterday. I loved that guy back in the day.

I like ESPN's Sunday night team. Fox probably has the best out there with Aikman, Buck, and Collinsworth. Madden is Madden, you either hate him or .... well I don't love him but I don't mind hearing "BOOM!" every 5 minutes. He's a familiar voice and a big game voice.

As much as I want to watch the Cowboys and Deadskins, I'm going to be really curious to see how the Saints do. Over the last few years the Saints have been one of the most underachieving franchises in the league. They've got talent on both sides of the ball but they always seem to find a way to blow it down the stretch. Being displaced by Katrina may actually force this team to grow up. If they do, they could be dangerous. The coaching staff could go 1-15 and not get fired. That's got to be liberating. They barely won last week, but they beat a good Carolina team. A Carolina team that made the Pats look sloppy yesterday. If the Saints can win this "home" game at Giants Stadium they'll start to make a believer out of me.

Damn, should have picked the better team instead of going with the emotion pick. Atleast my boys are owning the skins right now so i should go 8 and 8.

I was going to go to bed. I wish I had spared myself the misery. 77-0 with a 13 pt 4th quarter lead against one of the more anemic offenses in the league and Parcells, Roy Williams, and company get beat not once, but TWICE for long TD's. Nice play calling Payton! This is the kind of loss that can get Washington a WC spot and keep the Cowboys at home. You can never underestimate how bad a home divisional loss can be. Especially one as gut wrenching as that one. Ughh.

10-6. Not great, but not bad for me. Keeping it consistent. :)

I loved that stat when they showed it, you should have known that as soon as they flashed that it was all over.

10-6 is great with the way teams are see-sawing. I've been down right horrible, gotta get my act in gear.

6-10, probably my worst week ever.

Thanks for nothing Cowboys. They could have saved me a shred of dignity. I just got killed from the sunday late games up to last night's games. :x

Ditto, if last night had gone the way it should have I would have at least gone 9-7, maybe even 10-6 but as it is I finish a average 8-8

Here's a quick question for everybody, what teams have humped your leg? Who have you gone 0-2 with so far?

0-2
Carolina (picked them to win week 1, lose in week 2)
Dallas (picked them to lose week 1, win in week 2)
Atlanta (picked them to lose week 1, win in week 2)

Thanks for nothing you inconsistent 1-1 wonders!!!!

Off the top of my head I know that Carolina screwed me twice, as has Washington and Miami.

I have not even bothered checking how I did, but I have a feeling its going to be horrible. Some of the upsets were shocking. The final quater in the Dallas game was a 1:50 odds thing. By all rights, Cowboys should have won that one.

Week 3 will be posted by Thursday evening.

Another note... in the future, please use the format of selecting games that I have laid out in the opening post of the Week 1 thread. (ie. list the full matchup, and make your pick clear with either a (W), a WIN, etc). It makes it more difficult to read and sort through the picks each week when everyone has their own style (and in some cases, order) of indicating picks.

I've helped Fig with this before and I can tell you that when you have a system in place it makes much easier to tabulate the results if everyone posts their pics in a similiar manner. Even switching games around or leaving off a team can throw you off and make it that much harder to get everything straight.

Aye, consistency helps in making everything easier to read. It will just make recording the win/loss data in my spreadsheet a bit easier.

I feel thankfull being 2 games over .500 at this point! A lot of "experts" were murdered last week and are well under .500 for the year.

Saints vs Vikings

Games like this are why its so hard to pick this year. Hard to see the Vikes going 0-3 but the Saints are pissed off and fired up.

Jedieb
Sep 22nd, 2005, 10:22:04 AM
When are the Vikings finally going to wake up? Culpepper can't keep playing this poorly. By now the Saints should be getting use to their road season and the Metrodome should suit them nicely. I don't know who's going to be favored, but I think I'm probably going to go with the Saints. It's not just that the Vikings lost, it's how they lost. They looked like purple pieces of crap.
