NFC Wild Cards: Atlanta & Dallas - Cardinals miss by a tie breaker
AFC Wild Cards: Steelers & Chargers - Jaguars miss by a tie breaker

Pats & Vikings take home field. Panthers & Colts get the bye.

Wild Card Round of Playoffs

AFC Chargers vs Ravens - Schottenheimer chokes away another Playoff win.
AFC Chiefs vs Steelers - Played in Arrowhead the Steelers don't have a chance

NFC Cowboys vs Eagles - Eagles get beat up physically and Bledsoe finds the old Magic.
NFC Rams vs Falcons - Falcons can't score enough to keep up with the quick Rams

Divisional Round

AFC Patriots vs Chiefs - Chiefs can't keep up with the Pats offense at a boisterous Gillete
AFC Colts vs Ravens - Ravens D has the final say after another Manning Meltdown

NFC Vikings vs Cowboys - The Boys don't have the offense to keep up with the Vikings in the dome.
NFC Panthers vs Rams - Panthers beat up the Rams precision attack

Championship Round

AFC Patriots vs Ravens - Ravens D comes out strong and holds the Pats in check but their offense can't do enough against the Pats Homeland Defense. A battle of Kickers and the best in the business wins it at usual. 16-13 Pats

NFC Vikings vs Panthers - Vikes in a dome, Culpepper keeps the defense honest with Draws and quick slants and the Panthers offense has too many mistakes while trying to play catchup. 34-24 Vikings

Superbow

Patriots vs Vikings - Pats stack the line and beat up the Vikings receivers ala Superbowl 36 vs the Rams only this time their offense is much better. Dillon carries the load with 180yds Rushing and takes MVP honors. Pats 38 Vikings 21

Suprise Teams - Lions & Chargers, both will turn some heads this year.

MVP - Culpepper
Defensive MVP - ?? No clue, Peppers maybe?

So the Steelers are missing the playoffs? Still bitter Ryan? ;)

Damn, jjwr, why didn't you tell us who the month by month offensive and defensive MVPs were going to be? Slacker!

MVP
Manning
Defensive MVP
Not-a-Raven ;)

Steelers season was a fluke last year. They lack a good secondary, Farrior had one good season (in ten) and their running game is had miracle legs. With Staley hurt (like awlays), Bettis out of gas, Willie Parker will have to take the slack and sure, he looked in the season finale against the Bills, but the Bills played horrible. Look to see Pittsburgh in third with Cinci and Baltimore on top of it and for the Browns to be biting at their heels.

I think MVP will be Culpepper as well as OPOTY. DPOTY will be either Julius Peppers, Ray Lewis, or Ed Reed. If Ray Lewis is defensive player of the year, look for him to be MVP as well.

If its a Raven it will be Reed, Lewis is overrated and has been for a few years now. Dr. Z from CNNSi did a great writeup on the subject and reviewed a tape where he was credited with like 12-14 tackles for a game and found out most of those tackles were him jumping on a pile after the play was decided.

He was great in his time but he's not near what he once was.

As for monthly offensive and defensive MVPs...I considered but thats just too much work ;)

Thought it would be fun to bring this one back up and see how we did.

Of course things may change but going by today's standing lets see how many we each got right.

Jedieb
NFC - Right on Panthers and Hawks, 3 others still alive for the wild card but none are leaders.
AFC - Right on Pats, Colts, and Denver. Steelers should make it, Jets & Ravens were duds.

Ryan
NFC - Right on Panthers, Minnesota & Atlanta may make it, Arizona, Rams, and Eagles were duds.
AFC - Right on Pats, Bengals, Colts. Way off on Ravens and Jets. KC still contending.

JMK
NFC - Right on Carolina, Atlanta still contending. Way off on Rams, Lions, Eagles. Cowboys still in contention.
AFC - Right on Pats, Colts. Steelers should make it, Chiefs in contention. Ravens and Bills are duds.

Lance
NFC - Right on Seattle, Falcons & Cowboys still in it. Way off on Packers and Rams.
AFC - Right on Pats, Steelers, Colts and Denver and Chiefs may make it. Jets are a dud.

JJWR
NFC - Right on Panthers, Vikings, Falcons and Cowboys still in it. Missed badly on Eagles, Rams.
AFC - Right on Pats, Colts. Steelers and chargers, chiefs still in it. Way off on Ravens.

So the big themes were the Eagles were going to be good again, the Cowboys would either win the division or get the Wild Card(opposite of Eagles). Lots of love for the Ravens, Cardinals and Lions, not much love for the Bronco's and Seahawks who turned out to be top seeds.

Once again it just goes to show how weird this league is.

It's funny to see how some teams that most of us were high on completely fell apart or never got off the ground. The Redskins took me completely be surpirse although a month ago my prediction looked pretty good for them. I never would have dreamed the Ravens and packers would have tanked the way they have.

JMK
Dec 21st, 2005, 11:27:27 AM
Me neither. I thought the Packers would be bad, but not this bad. Of course the injuries made that worse. But I never thought the Ravens would be this incompetent.

The Redskins took everyone by surprise. I was really expecting the Lions to take that crappy division but the Bears D came back in a big way.

I most certainly didn't think the Bengals would be this good and I didn't think the Steelers would play the whole year with one foot on a banana peel.

I knew the Bengals would be good. I knew the Steelers would drop a lot of games, and go nowhere. But I also thought the Ravens would have had a capable offense...

If Bulger had stayed healthy, St. Louis would be in the playoffs and the Cardinals was a longshot.

I laugh looking at the Jets pick.

I thought the Jets were going to win a WC spot. If Pennington hadn't of gotten hurt.... who am I kidding, they still would have sucked. I think he's done. He never had that strong an arm to begin with. Now he's had what, 2 or 3 major surgeries in two seasons? I think if the Jets have a shot at Matt Leinert they'd be stupid to pass on him. Even the Niners should take him if they have the second pick. Alex Smith throws like a damn girl. Talk about a bust.

JMK
Dec 21st, 2005, 02:29:09 PM
Can you imagine if Aaron Rogers is a bust in Green Bay too?

Ryan Pode
Dec 21st, 2005, 03:44:55 PM
I don't think Aaron Rodgers will be a bust. He moved fairly good, like Brett Favre, its just when they left him in the pocket...

jjwr
Dec 21st, 2005, 03:50:32 PM
He can't be any worse at this point.

To give him a fair shake they need to give him a week of practice as the starter and see how he does.

Jedieb
Dec 21st, 2005, 07:34:19 PM
We haven't seen nearly enough of Rogers to make a judgement on him. But Smith has had several starts. What are his stats so far, around 10 INT's and ZERO TD's? But even more troubling, he's showing the inability to make certain kinds of throws. That's not a good sign. I don't think we'll know about Rogers until 07 because I think Favre is coming back next year.

Well to be fair with Smith, they need to give him protection and WR. They have neither. Also a RB would help, actually they need to lose to Houston. If I was that Coach I lose on purpose to get Bush. He would actually help them more than Houston at this point (because Houston needs a defense as well).
