Privates/Corporals do not have rank plaques on their uniforms. Soldiers under Warrant-Officer rank wear v-type white stripes on their sleeves. Sergeants have single-line rank plaques (continuing up to Sergeant-major of the Army through Chief Warrant Officer)-- Commissioned officers have double-line plaques.
