View Full Version : The Island

I just saw this tonight - I really really liked it. Michael Bay is known for blockbusters that lack the right story to go with the action (Pearl Harbor?), but The Island is not one of those.
I thought it was great. Anyone else seen it yet?
The very end reminded me of Logan's Run, and when i thought about it afterwards, there are many similarities in the stories. It lacked the nakedness and fuzzy 70's-ness of Logan's Run, though.

I liked it the first time I saw it when it was called the Matrix :)

Judging by the box office numbers, you were probably the only one here who saw it ;)

I loved this movie.
The action sequences were awesome. I liked the whole look of the thing.
Some Matrix-y comparisons, sure, but overall = very entertaining.

I thought it was a decent movie. Much improved from Pearl Harbor anyway. What a mess that was. I'm still recovering...

More 6th Day-esque if you ask me.

It's numbers are horrible. I'm a big Ewan fan so I wanted it to do well, but the Island probably won't get to $40M. With a budget of over $122M that's a train wreck.

It was a lot better movie than a $40M take.

Im surprised it hasn't taken in more than 40m. It better do more than Dukes, is all I can say.

I haven't seen it, but the clips that I see make me think of Logan's Run and THX-1138. Especially when I see that clip of Ewan and the blonde coming up from underground. It looks like someone decided to give Robert Duval a date after he's gained his freedom. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Similiar themes don't bother me as long as their well executed.

To me it's a smooshing of all those flicks. Logan's Run meets Coma meets REALLY BIG EXPLOSIONS! :)

I'd actually rather see Dukes of Hazzard than the Island.

Im sure you're not alone in wanting to see Dukes :)
But for me, I can only stand watching so many car burn-outs and a girl in short-shorts in a lifetime. I doubt I'll ever see this movie.

I'll have to go see it - hubby will drag me. I'll probably turn off my brain and enjoy watching Sean William Scott be goofy.

Don't get me wrong, I hear what you're saying, and I'm on board 100%, but that's the reason why they made the 'These Boots are Made for Walking' video. So you won't have to spend your hard earned $$$ on that P.O.S. movie. :)

I really liked this movie. It's right up my alley. The story reminded me a lot of 'Brave New World', '1984', 'Farenheit 451', things like that. I thought that they fleshed out the world of the clones really well, even if it was full of product-placement :rolleyes It did drag on a little at the end, but overall it was enjoyable.

The first half hour or so before they escape was pretty neat. I just liked the feel of the place, they needed to spend more time there. After that it was just alot of action that got boring.
It wasn't bad, but not really good either. You know what's going to happen because you've seen it before.
