Last year we had tons of hurricane threads in the BO forum. I really hadn't planned on starting one for Dennis(was hoping someone else would - or he'd peter out). But since it's about 12 hours give or take, from landfall I figured I'd go ahead. This is serious folks. The latest advisory has this as strong as Hugo in '89.
A strong Category 4.

Looks like it will hit between Pensacola and Mobile not good at all for that area.

And the way it just gets stronger and stronger - the place it makes landfall is going to be in a world of hurt. Wow, we thought Ivan was bad.

Pressure continues to inch down. If it hit at current intensity it would be the 7th most intense to hit the US.

Oh man :( This is going to suck for Mobile/Panhandle.

Like everyone else, I was hoping it would lessen if not just turn into a tropical depression. Pack up and go somewhere safe, please!!

It has lessened a bit during the day. Maybe not enough to matter much.

Between shark attacks and hurricanes I think I may have to scratch my summer vacation in Panama City. :(

I heard over the radio about an hour ago that tornadoes have done more damage than Dennis, itself :(

Isnt it the same as El Nino and La Nina? Interesting reading (thanks, CMJ)...and not so good news for FL and the surrounding areas if its all true :(

I'm pretty sure El Nino and La Nina are shorter range events, lasting just a couple of years respectively. Similar ocean temperature event though.

Wow. . .my whole family lives really close to Mobile, I'm uber worried for them, have been all day. I live in FL, but luckily it's Jacksonville. . .as far as I know though, my family is okay.

The Pacific Ocean occilation index, which defines if a El Nino or La Nina is occuring has been positive for an El Nino since 1998. The best we've had is a leaning towards neutral index in 2003-05. We need badly a nuetral or a full La Nina a year ago given how even the monster dam system that can give sydney a 4 year water supply without rain is worryingly low. If it wasnt for some finally major rain a few weeks ago a major inland town would have run dry.
In a full blown La Nina, I would expect the river here to reach a peak flood of 25 meters if its bad. We aint seen a flood for over 8 years.

Hurricane passed fairly easily. This was a puppy compared to Ivan. We didn't even lose power here.

Not bad enough to lose power here or flood, but enough rain that I don't have to do the stupid tent sale at work today! :D !

I don't think I can handle another hurricane. Last year we lost our power twice for a week to two weeks each time. I was pregnant during the time so I was completely miserable. Nothing but PB&J sandwiches and no a/c or warm water. I just hope this hurricane dies down cuz we don't need another Andrew.

Deniis screwed me over so horribly :(
I was supposed to have a full weekend this weekend, but they cancelled work Sunday when in all truthfulness, they didn't need to. So we had to make up for it last night.
I haven't slept but four hours since yesterady afternoon, and now there's a dead rabbit right in front of my porch steps. Thanks Dennis!

It screwed me over too last weekend. The wind it sent my way ruined the day I had planned going to the park to draw. My papers were flying everywhere, making it impossible to draw.
