We didn't have this list started, and I miss looking at it. So, I'm doing it myself!

1. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith $366,502,577
2. Hitch $179,446,079
3. Madagascar $172,131,077
4. Batman Begins $154,800,369
5. The Longest Yard $148,692,427
6. Mr. and Mrs. Smith $146,082,474
7. Robots $127,771,408
8. The Pacifier $112,810,234
9. War of the Worlds $112,744,353

Of note - last year by this time we had ten movies that had opened that either had, or went on to make 100 mil.

I expect WotW climb to the #2 spot of the year with the second 200M+ gross so far. It should keep that position until Harry Potter, Narnia and King Kong later in the year. It has a good chance for #3 spot overall for the year (I am fairly sure HP will beat WotW). The strongest 100M+ chances for the remainder of the summer is Charlie and the chocolate factory and Fantastic 4.

My preliminary prediction of the top 5:

1. ROTS
2. HP
3. WotW
4. King Kong
5. Narnia

ROTS will reside safely on the #1 spot. HP should take the #2 spot easily. King Kong is a question mark. Could become blockbuster and challenge WotW if all turns right. Narnia should take a spot among the top 5. Charlie and Fantastic 4 is not going to make top 5.

Of note - last year by this time we had ten movies that had opened that either had, or went on to make 100 mil

Yes, the 'box office slump' is a bit exaggerated in the press. There were some really high grossing movies though, like Shrek 2, Spiderman 2 and Passion.

Yeah Passion, Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2 all made a lot of money. I slightly agree with you about Potter taking #2. I think GOF will be the action film of the series and it being back in the fall helps it should make 250-280 in the U.S which would be very good for it. Narnia is the question mark to me, I guess it depends how good it is, if it is a well liked film it could do a FOTR and make 300, at least should get to 200 at least. The question is how many 200 films will we have. I think SW, HP, WOTW, Narnia, King Kong will all make it. Batman Begins has been showing great legs and could crawl past 200, should do 190 at the very worst. For the rest of the summer, only two big films like you said Yog, both I think will make a 100 then you have question mark films. Dark Water, The Island, Stealth and The Dukes of Haazard, a few of them could surprise.

I hope that bastardization of the Dukes of Hazard fails miserably. It looks absolutely awful.

I would love to see it fail, but I bet it will be a hit concidering the crap teens watch these days.

lol kyle I am just cynical when I saw that Jack-censored (can't say that here heh) made over a 100 million I wondered about the moviegoers who went to see that.

Two new entries to the 100M dollar list: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ($114,106,000) and Fantastic Four ($122,560,000). Next up is Wedding Crashers which should hit 100 next weekend.

2. War of the Worlds $208,321,000
3. Batman Begins $191,108,000
4. Madagascar $186,631,000

I hope neither make it. Neither look any good whatsoever.

If Dukes makes it, it will because of teens they went to the American Pie movies, and I wouldn't call them great movies. Stealth has to be good, IMO to make 100.

Between Jessica Simpson's bikinis, Stiffler fans and Jackass fans, I'll bet Dukes will get to 100M.

1. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith $379,017,346
2. War of the Worlds $230,725,666
3. Batman Begins $202,358,091
4. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory $193,219,376

7. Hitch $179,495,555
8 Wedding Crashers $178,518,000
9. The Longest Yard $157,354,770
10. The Fantastic 4 $150,774,680
11 Robots $128,188,302
12. The Pacifier $112,810,234

Nothing else should make the list. Dukes will make it to 85 max, IMO. Four Brothers is the same. 40 Year old virgin and Red Eye would both need amazing legs, though 40 has a small chance right now. Red Eye could do in the 80's is the most. The next film besides 40 is Tim Burton's Corpse Bride or FlightPlan staring Jodie Foster both have shots, IMO.

Kong and Narnia should both get up pretty high on that list, I'm betting.

They will finish top 5, IMO right now I am thinking the top will be
1 Star Wars
2 Harry Potter
3 King Kong
4 Narnia
5 War of the Worlds

Goblet of Fire could past War of the Worlds by next sunday or sometime next week at latest. The question then is will anything past it? It should finish somewhere between 275-300 (I am thinking 285 right now) Will Kong or Narnia make more than 285 is the question.

Goblet of Fire will pass War of the Worlds today. Where it will finish I am still not sure, should make 275 at worst right now, so probably somewhere between 275-300. I am going to say about 285 right now.

It's hard to say. With all releases it's gonna be dropping theaters like crazy soon. I'm thinking more like 270-275M.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 10th, 2005, 12:58:03 AM
Well Narnia didn't hurt that bad theater count wise and most of the new releases aren't wide until the 25 that is the weekend that will hurt it, but I am confident it will make 275 after that I am not sure that might be as high as it go. Still considering the last two films made 261 and 249 that is still impressive and I sure wouldn't be disapointed in that. Heck that was my prediction before it opened :p
Another thing, the movie is doing great overseas, has made 570 million World wide going into this weekend. Since overseas numbers aren't figured out during the week it could be at close to 650 after this weekend. It will probably make between 850-900 WW and edge out Revenge of the Sith as the #1 movie WW for the year. The only film that could top it is Kong, although I am not sure if that can reach those heights.

12 Chicken Little $129,240,868

15 The Pacifier $112,810,234
16 The 40 year Old Virgin $109,289,008

Right now I think GOF will do at least 275 could do as much as 290, although I doubt that, probably low 280's which would be great. Narnia should finish 240-270, IMO. King Kong, no idea, could finish 180 range or up close to 250, have to wait another week for it.

Yog

I think Kong will go above 200M easily. It seems like the kind of movie that will have great legs. Note: I never believed in a huge opening for Kong.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 22nd, 2005, 12:18:21 AM
Right now I think Kong will go over 250, not sure, I am guessing 220-250 at the moment and it will finish 4th or 5th for the year.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 22nd, 2005, 05:59:36 PM
King Kong might be in trouble now. Yesterday it fell to 4.8 million and Narnia past it to retake #1. If Narnia is #1 this weekend over Kong, Kong will not make 200 million.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 29th, 2005, 07:31:17 PM
1. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith $380,270,577

15. Robots $128,188,302
16 The Pacifier $112,810,234
17 The 40 year Old Virgin $109,289,008

Walk the Kine should inch over the 100 mark by the time Oscars come out. The only other film to have a chance is Fun With Dick and Jane and I think that won't do it right now. As for the rest of the list, I think Harry is safe at #2, I think it will do between 280-290 right now (it is making 2 million a day during the holidays. Narnia should make somewhere between 260-280 and Kong 220-240.

Harry Potter should cross 290, I wish it could do 300, but unless WB really pushes it, I doubt it.
Narnia should do between 270-285 and finish third for the year. King Kong looks to finish between 215-230.

Narnia is up to #3, it could make as much as 280-290 right now. GOF is inching towards 290 and Kong 220-230. One thing interesting to note Goblet of Fire passed Revenge of the sith world wide 851 to 848 respectably. I am not surprised, Potter is defintely more popular overseas than Star Wars is.
