Do you have any design elements you want to see implemented at TGE?

Get rid of the sidebar.

And here's a pic of what the forum would look like if that were carried out:

(assuming 1024x768 desktop resolution)

It might be a good idea to remove the sidebar. It's too difficult to keep the recent developments up to date. The rest of the information can be found elsewhere on the board without too much of a search.

Interesting idea.

It would look a little plain without the sidebar though. Look at Kuklos Ataxia (http://www.swforums.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=241) and ShadowFaene Fortress (http://www.swforums.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=97) . Those are two interesting-looking boards.

I like the side bar its useful.

They also don't have sidebars. What's the point, exactly? Or was that some marvellous Walter-Sarcasm?

I personally have never been a fan of sidebars, but thats just a peeve of mine.

I think the sidebar could, but doesnt currently, have alot of use. As it stands now, its never updated, and is taking up space.

If it were to be updated more often, then that bit of information could probably be displayed in something less obtrusive to my sweet sweet horizontal space, say dropdown menu maybe?

Dropdown menu would be sweet

No, no sarcasm. I was saying that the board would look plain without the sidebar, and on another non-sidebar note, look here are two boards which look cool.

The drop-down menu would also depend on being updated by a user (or multiple users) though.

Maybe a better way of doing what the sidebar is supposed to do currently (and more effectively, and without taking up as much space) would be to get rid of the sidebar and have a stickied "Recent Developments" thread here in the Barracks which everybody could post the links to their imperial threads in. The link to said thread would then be contained in the Imperial banner as part of the image map.

Sticky thread would work well also

A sticky thread would be much better because people could post their RPs and a mod could just add it to the list.

Ok, here's what TGE would look like with a recent developments addon to the banner, linked to the recent developments sticky thread through image map, and also with a table encapsulating it at 905 pixels.

And here's what it would look like similar to the above, only with width=90% rather than width=905, and the content centered. actually, this is what it'd look like if all the above is true and also your resolution is 1280x1024.

:p you don't RP anymore though.

I like it without the sidebar.

That is not true.

With the reset I've found a resurrgance in writing. Let's see if I can make it a month.

Opinions, please? Which of these two do you like better?

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/4931/preview4a3yh.th.gif (http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=preview4a3yh.gif)http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/3624/preview4b3rx.th.gif (http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=preview4b3rx.gif)

The first has a table with a width of 89% of your total desktop resolution, and the second has a width of 905 pixels, which is tighter. These screenshots were taken with a desktop resolution of 1280x1024.

I like the second of the two. The tighter design really brings it together.

The loose boarder causes more vertical friction and less horizontal, it just seems unbalanced. While unbalanced can be good sometimes, it doesn't feel right here.

But that's my opinion.

I don't like the sidebar because sometimes I have to scroll to the right to read entire posts, and I find that annoying. [/my two cents]

89% desktop. Think Pontiac. Wider is better =)

Pontiac... why think Pontiac when we can think Porsche?

Okee doke, I've submitted the new design.

Silus, when you talked to me about the idea of changing the category text ("Imperial Outpost, Holonet") to text images, were you thinking of just using the stylized Recent Developments-esque text (Episode 1 font with bevel and emboss), or something different?

edit~and now the new design is up. what do you guys think?

Lady Vader
Jul 12th, 2005, 10:48:44 AM
It looks like all the other boards. :\

But if the majority don't want the sidebar, I guess it'll do.

EDIT: It took me awhile to find the recent development thingy you were talking about. I hope new ppl that come here don't have too much trouble.

I dunno.. personally I didn't like the sidebar as it was too much clutter for me.

And just because it looks like the rest of the board isnt a bad thing... the layout is simple, but very slick because of the colors used.

FLASH. Everything in Flash. I want buttons, popups, crazy banners, all in extremely elaborate flash. Also, there should be a Wilhelm scream every time I click or type. In addition, I want several 640x480 pictures of the Emperor to follow the mouse pointer around.

Telan Desaria

I am confused....very much so.

But I would like to request that we have the large picture of the Defender placed in the background of the main page. Or perhaps something new, like an AT-AT or Carrack Cruiser.

I would also be amenable to a small GIF of a stormtrooper pointing his finger at the viewer and a flash of the Emperor Wants YOU popping up as the finger/arm extends.

I'm going to give this place popups. Popups, popunders, porn adds, porn adds with sound, and I'll make it so that you have to pay 80 bucks a month to view it.
