I'm still wondering what a boffin is. Or is that Australian for "stupid bloke who is heralding the beginning of the zombie apocalypse"?

Boffin is a bit of "chiefly British slang" for "a scientist, especially one engaged in research."

The article didn't say if the subjects had acquired an un-natural taste for human brains... :)

Well I guess its good that I already have a contingency plan for when this all goes wrong.

This news is actually pretty cool, even if I hope to never need the procedure.

No one seems to notice the fact that they're just preserving live dogs by draining all the blood out of them, replacing it with goo, and then keeping them 'dead' (read: not moving, not cracking heads open and slurping brain soup) for a few hours before removing the goo and replacing the blood. Restart heart: alive dogs!
Not really zombies.

Dead, then magically not-dead = undead = zombies.
Sheesh... it's like they don't even teach apocalypse math to children anymore these days...

They're clinically dead, and then they're not. All it's going to take is one-slip up.

Exactly. One orderly puts vampire blood in instead of normal blood, and there you go. Happens all the time.

You guys think that's bad? I only now found out about this:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1754008,00.html
SCIENTISTS have created a “miracle mouse” that can regenerate amputated limbs or badly damaged organs, making it able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.
“We have experimented with amputating or damaging several different organs, such as the heart, toes, tail and ears, and just watched them regrow,” she said. “It is quite remarkable. The only organ that did not grow back was the brain."
The researchers have also found that when cells from the test mouse are injected into ordinary mice, they too acquire the ability to regenerate. And perhaps most chilling of all:
She is still researching their exact functions, but it seems almost certain that humans have comparable genes.

It's like something out of X-men.

Great... not only zombies, but zombies that grow bits back when you blow them off. At least you can still kill 'em by taking out the brain.
Thanks, science!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/resident_evil_apocalypse/high_teaser.html - it's going to happen, possibly sooner than anyone has anticipated.
