Are there any restrictions/limitations for personal ships that need to covered, for those of us who aren't as spaceship savvy as others. Calling all ship gurus ... ;)

I found a list of ships for evaluation -

I’m not sure what the general consensus is. My opinion, however, is that large vessels that require extensive personnel to operate cannot be individually owned. Additionally, most large craft have extreme operating expenses—food, fuel, maintenance, etc.

It would be on an owner-by-owner basis, but I'd think it's safe to say that an individual's craft should be fighter sized or freighter sized (or somewhere in between).

Being specifically in Black Sun/Smuggling/Pirating/Hunter class, I just want to nail down all the options in that category.

Since you have makings of a group already, I don't see any reason why Black Sun couldn't have just about anything short of a full capital ship.

Why stop there? In SotE, they had a freaking skyhook which I'd argue is up on the pecking order when compared to your run of the mill capital ship.

Except for the whole general lack of mobility thing, yeah. But a very valid point.

Xizor had a skyhook. Sorsha and Sasseeri are the two Vigos just below him - although at this point it IS plausible that one, or the other, or both, could afford their own skyhooks and the people to take care of them.

Indeed. We must remember that some rich patrons, like Baron Nextus - who during the Seti Ashgad thing - brought his personal fleet into action and it was quite numerous - -then again, he could afford to pay for the services of soldiers and crewmen in the fleet. Rich people may have a few ships to call their own, and companies would definitely have ships such as frigates for escorts. But a rogue or private person may have something that just he can operate. Unless of course, like Booster Terrik, he can afford to hire a crew. That however, would require extensive rping for the maintenane and up keep of said vessel.

Remember, in the Rogue Squadron books, he had a great deal of problems operating it with a skeleton crew.

There's also the possibility of a droid crew. But the roleplayer would have to understand the inferiorities of droids compared to humans, as well as vice versa. To quote Han Solo...

'Good against remotes is one thing. Good against the living...thats something else'.

I think something along the lines of a nice modified frieghter is always good, it has sleeping room for long trips and you can add more defensive stuff on it. It also can have the legs it out run or out accelerate larger ships if you need to run.
