On seeing the tangent that sprang in the What is a Sith thread, I figure we could benefit from changing the question to...

Just what are light and dark side powers?

In short, I think the light and dark side have more to do with how you wield the power, not the power itself. This differs from the RPG model, but I prefer generalizing power types and grouping them like this...

Light Side:

Healing
Calm Mind
Energy Absorbtion

Universal:

Core (potenial for self discovery or minimal training) -

Telekinsis
Equilibrium (enhance strength, coordination, leaping)
Speed Boost
Second Sight (sense motion, see/sense aura, danger sense)
Empathy

Advance (requires technique training) -

Deflection (w/o a lightsabre - energy and/or physical)
Clairvoyance (seeing future and/or distant events)
Read Thoughts
Confusion (distract, mind trick, illusions)

Dark Side:

Induce Pain
Fear
Energy Expulsion

By these broad categories, the power commonly known as "Jedi Defense" is a combination of second sight and equilibrium (seeing an attack coming and reacting to it quickly). Forming these kinds of combinations is how to account for specific powers we've used in the past.

Of those 15 power categories, any given Jedi can master 9 or 10 of them. This is how we get Corran, with energy absorbtion, but he can barely nudge a rock. And obviously, the more you learn of one end of the spectrum, the less capable you are of doing anything from the other.

IMO, even true masters like Sidious and Yoda could do 12 of the things on the list each.

Also on the far side of each spectrum are the powers of extended life. The light master becomes one with the Force when their physical body dies. The dark master essentially becomes a lich.

Beyond this, the universal powers simply manifest differently depending on how they are channeled.
