Taichi Yamagi is a Corellian native born and raised in Coronet City. He showed promise early on with the family's landspeeder and throughout his early school years he took great interest in classes to do with flying. Although his parents were advocates of peace, they agreed to let Taichi transmit his application to the Imperial Military Academy which accepted him into its fighter pilot training program at Prefsbelt IV. During his stay there his friends called him Tie due to his spending every moment possible in the simulators or down in the hangars with the real thing. Following four years at the academy, at the age of 21, Yamagi was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Imperial Starfighter Corps. Lieutenant Yamagi was assigned to the 3rd squadron of the 384th Fighter Wing, flying TIE Interceptors, aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Absolute, during a mission to aid an Imperial convoy under heavy rebel attack Tie brought himself to the attention of the Empire's premier fighter pilot Baron Soontir Fel of the 181st Fighter Group. Following another evaluation by the Baron, Tie was transfered to the 2nd Squadron of the 181st. There he served with distinction for several months before the Emperor ordered the Star Destroyer Imperial Sovereign to make its way to Corellia to suppress rebellion there. Tie's squadron was ordered to strafe a mass of protesters, however his love for his native world and its people caused the young Lieutenant to desert during the mission. Using his vast knowledge of the Corellian landscape Tie was able to find a suitable hiding spot for his Interceptor. Managing to procure a hyperdrive for his fighter he escaped the Imperial cordon around the world. Vowing revenge, he began a life preying on weakly defended Imperial supply convoys. While Tie severed himself from the majority if the instutions of the Empire, it is interesting to note that on his own personal Interceptor he kept the horizontal red stripes so that he could remember the unit in which he served which he believed was still an honorable group. When the Rebellion found itself pressed for pilots following the debacles at Hoth and Derra IV, Tie formally joined the alliance. Tie was assigned to a fighter squadron flying and X-Wing. His own personal Interceptor was kept aboard ship for possible use in the future for covert operations. However, Tie's welcome was not as warm as it could have been. Many of his fellow pilots and crewmembers aboard ship remain suspicious, fearing that the young Lieutenant is still in the employ of the Empire.
