I'm not sure if we've covered this already or not, but how are we handling promotions?
I figure promotions to Jedi Master will be like normal, but what about Padawan promotions to Knight? Usually the Padawan goes before the council, but with these new renovations, there won't be a council to approve the Padawan. So what will we do? I know that if my character were a Padawan I'd like to know how I was supposed to rank up.

When you want to promote someone, just bring it up in this forum. We were thinking something along the lines of having the current GJO staff approving promotions, but if you posted it here then everyone (of Knight/Master rank) could have some input on it - if that's okay with the rest of the staff.

I don't think it would be fair to have it up to OOC positions to say ya' or nay' to IC concerns. I think it should be up to the master of that padawan to the rank of knight and then after knight, well to reach master it should take quite a fair while so by then the jedi would have the Enclave and perhaps a small committe/council can decide on the Master level?

and in the past when the Master of the Padawan felt that their Padawan was ready, they brought it before the Council. There was no instant promotion by the Master anyway.
Similar approach. As long as there is ample proof, aka RP threads, then the person gets promoted. Unfortunately, there is no Jedi Enclave yet... once there is a more establish foundation for a Council of sorts, then it can go that way. Right now, it isn't plausible for it does not exists. It is a short term solution when things catch up IC.

Thats how I was thinking Nav. But it would be a pain for who ever is the "council'' to have to all gather for a promotion. I know its important, but it would set everyone in a greater danger to be gathering more times then might be needed.
Maybe it would be by holo then, like the council in ROTS. But I dont know if those can be hacked into or not.
At the moment, if you are a padawan, it would seem unreasonable to think that they would be knighted right off the bat. Yes, it could happen but I wouldn't suggest it.

To Nav you listen.
We will use this method until such a time arrives that a more IC-friendly solution presents itself. Until then, just bring promotion requests here, and once approved, they can be RPed in whatever manner best suits the master and apprentice.

And I suppose promotions to master will remain as they always have been? I don't remember Master promotions being carried out IC, but I was wondering if there had been talk about doing that sort of thing IC.

I think there is usually some sort of IC trial, with the other current Masters organizing a variety of tasks/situations that the Jedi has to dela with - usually without their knowing (IC, and sometimes OOC) that they are being tested.

I like this idea because it kind of coincides with the movie. It would be cool for the Jedi Padawan/Knight to have a task before him, sort of like Luke had his task to confront Vader, and that was the only way he could become a Jedi. I don't know if that can be done in every case, but it would be cool sometimes.

Right, but it's very important to remember that the trials were the furthest thing from arbirtrary. A trial was always something that life brought up, and depending on how the Padawan/Knight handled it, was promoted.
