View Full Version : Construction of a Lightsaber
Bandage

Bandage returns from the errands that he needed to run, several datapads and a large case piled in his cradled arms. Finally reaching the mat on the floor, Bandage lays everything down before closing the door behind him. In the next few hours, with schematics and parts and the Force accompanying him, Bandage would attempt to build his first lightsaber. Laying out all the datapads in order before him, Bandage picks up one and begins the grueling but promising task ahead of him.

After a few hours of pouring through all of the current datapads, Bandage finds himself immersed with information on lightsaber construction. The essential parts were: a focusing lens to hone the raw power into a blade; a power cell to create a flow of energy to the other parts; a faceted crystal for color and blade composition; a power crystal to give the blade it's defined uses; and an emitter to carry the honed energy of the blade outward from the casing itself and into the air. A series of personal crystals could be added to give the blade an identity similar to the user, creating a unique lightsaber. Bandage felt that training sabers lacked these, for they were merely for training, to become adjusted to the use of a lightsaber, and not for personal use. Another essential part to the construction of the lightsaber, and not the lightsaber itself, is the Force, for it would hone down one's work to a precision unreachable by synthetic means, like the robotical assistance that some members of the Sith would use.
Bandage readied himself, opening the duraluminum casing, and laying out all the parts of his saber before him. They were innumerable, infinite. At first, Bandage was skeptical, as well as amazed. How could he, a doctor, create such a weapon? But that was just it. He was no longer a doctor. That title had been stripped from him. Now, he was a Jedi. And a Jedi was more than capable of creating a lightsaber.
Closing his eyes, extending his feeling to the parts before him, until the line between the pieces and himself was blurred or even nonexistent, Bandage focused himself. The Force would guide him, show him just what to do with his own parts.
Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, there was movement. It was Bandage's hands, but not just his hands. The crystals hovered, as if controlled by his hands. With a gesture to rise, the crystals slowly aligned themselves, ready for the biding of the Force.
A phrase escaped Bandage's lips, but the words, though quiet, were powerful, carrying such impact upon the process.
"The crystal is the heart of the blade."
With these words, the crystals became fully aligned, as if they were already in a dormant lightsaber, invisible save for the lone figure kneeling in front of it.

As the next phrase came to mind, Bandage did not consciously think about it. From the pile of parts, the power cell floated slowly from it, taking it's position in the unassembled lightsaber. As it slowly locked into place, the next phrase then came aloud from the lips of Bandage, the words empowering, meaning much yet very little to Bandage at one moment. It was not the words themselves that had meaning, but the idea that the words inscribed into the mind of the Jedi, the focal point of the ajoining of lightsaber, Jedi, and the Force. As the power cell took its place, Bandage's hands clapsed over his chest.
"The heart is the crystal of the Jedi."

Everything was going smoothly. No interruptions of any kind. Perhaps the others felt what Bandage was doing, and decided not to intervene in any way. This was, perhaps, good. His commune with the Force itself would remain undeterred.
With no real warning, Bandage brought his hands together, creating a diamond formation with them. The Force permeated the area in his hands, as the next phrase came from his lips.
"The Jedi is the crystal of the Force."
As Bandage's communion with the Force began to become more focused, the focusing lenses of the lightsaber floated from the parts, slowly but surely taking their places at the end, aligning themselves perfectly, as no being could do. This was the work of the Force, the assembly of something absolutely remarkable.

"The Force is the blade of the heart."
As the next phrase in the mantra came forth, another part of the lightsaber came floating into the assembly. It was the emitter, the part that allowed the blade to exit the casing, instead of melting a hole into the casing itself, thus shutting it down. As it locked into place, Bandage had an outlet, a place to use the Force more fully, and it was there, in front of him, in the construction of his lightsaber. Bandage, eyes still closed, brought his hands to his chest, one hand horizontal underneath the other, which was brought vertically, to signify the blade of his heart. He was well on the path of constructing his own perfection of the Force made material.

Bandage's lightsaber, now consisting of the power and personal crystals, the power cell, the focusing lens, and the emitter, was beginning to look a little closer to being an actual lightsaber. It closely resembled one, but was a little too thin, a little too exposed, and very unwieldable. As the next phrase came to mind, a color flashed in Bandage's mind, before the phrase flowed slowly from his lips, as the Force flowed from Bandage himself. It was what he felt now, that feeling embodied into a color. It was passion, a love for the Force itself, in the highest form. And the color was red.
Bandage had become the conduit of the Force, an outlet for what seemed to be the very essence of life itself. He was Jedi, but incomplete. Thus, the 'saber must be built. He must be complete. He was coupled together with the Force, though he was the lesser of the entities. The lightsaber would help to only strengthen the bond; it was the missing piece to the puzzle that was the Jedi.
"All are intertwined."
As the words came to be, the color crystal came from the laid out parts. It was as the color Bandage had seen, red. The red of passion, the color of blood. Perhaps that was why blood was red. Not the oxygen and nutrients passing through it, but the passion that flowed through the veins of all, even though it was often denied. Passion is life, just as the life was of passion. Passion for life, passion for the Force. The color crystal righted itself among the assembly, and as this happened, the rest of the workings came together, connecting themselves and coming into a more perfect alignment. They were becoming one, just as Bandage would one day become with the Force.

As the color crystal was put into place, the 'saber's inner workings were complete. Now it was time for the outer shell of the lightsaber.
The components, prompted by the Force, began to lift themselves up, assembling themselves around the levitating inner components, the 'guts' of the lightsaber. As they did this, Bandage subconsciously spoke, the next line of the mantra flowing from him via the Force, much like water would flow from a river.
"The crystal, the blade, the Jedi."
As the pieces of the outer shell of the lightsaber came into being, fused together by the power that defined life, the form became visible. It was perfectly cylindrical in most parts, save for the bottom, which came to a curve. It was unlike any Bandage had ever seen before, even though Bandage didn't truly see it with his own eyes. The 'eyes' of the Force were being lent to him. The knowledge came with it as well, for Bandage, without knowing of it, became aware that the 'saber he just built was known as a Fencing Lightsaber. Not many used it, or could. Bandage was merely overjoyed with the fruition of the lightsaber, and the very process from which it came to be. Soon, it would be complete......
Soon.....

As the remaining pieces of the outer shell of the lightsaber came into place, the final phrase of the mantra came to mind. It echoed in his mind, but Bandage let it continue to echo, until the 'saber would be complete. With a few pangs, and some searing sounds, the lightsaber was complete. It hovered there in front of Bandage, a Fencing saber with a black handled grip and dull colored durasteel handle, a belt loop hanging at the end. It would hook on perfectly with his belt. The 'saber slowly hovered, until it came within Bandage's grasp. He slowly, as he stood, reached for it, gripping it in his hands. The fit was perfect with his scarred, large hands, long and gnarled fingers gripping the hilt in his hand, the curve of the handle sloping perfectly down his palm and wrist. This was a perfection of the Force, made into a personalized assembly of material porportions. It was Bandage's, and his only. He would use it in the best of his intentions, he would use it for the cause of the Jedi, and the Jedi alone. He was now Jedi, he was now one with his new 'saber.
Bandage stood, holding the saber in front of his face. It ignited, a red beam of a blade coming forth from the emitter, casting a crimson aura about Bandage's body. It made him seem different; instead of menacing, like it would be with the Sith and their usually red blades, it was almost impressive, perfectly outlining his form. With his new lightsaber, Bandage quoted the last line, feeling empowered by the Force.
"You are one."
