View Full Version : Where and When: The Last Star Wars Movie

There is already a thread like this in the OOC forum, but I thought we should have one here. Where are you going to see the LAST Star Wars movie Revenge of the Sith, and when!?

Personally, I am going to be seeing it at the Century 16 Eastport theatres here in Portland, Oregon. I'm probably going to get there at an undisclosed time (can't have people beating me!) on the 18th for the midnight show and line up with some of my fanatical younger relatives. Some older, too. Anyone in the Portland area want to team up? (haha I know there is no one, oh well :()

Anyone else?

I'll be at the Cinemark-Powers theater in Colorado Springs for the midnight show on the 19th. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to get there super early to wait in line, I'll probably get there around 10:30-ish. If it's anything like the showing they had for Ep. II, it'll be a great time.

After that, I'm hoping to catch it at least once or twice later that day, and I'm going with my work group on Friday.

After that I'll probably lay off for a little while - but I'll definitely see it at least once more before it leaves the theaters. My days of going to see SW 10+ times in the theater are waning, but 5+ will do for me.

Now, the question is - should I bring my 10-month old padawan to the midnight show with me? :) Need to break 'em in early...

LOL I'd leave the kid at home. No one wants a crying baby sitting next to them, even if you can stand it. :)

Patton Creek Rave 15 in Birmingham, AL, for the 12:00 AM show on the 19th, if they've got a midnight viewing.

There's a number of theaters near me, the question is which one of them will be showing the midnight screening? None of them have any news posted on their websites so I'll have to start making phone calls soon.

Carribean Cinemas at Plaza las Américas in San Juan, PUerto Rico. I will be attending the midnight show the 19th with my local fanforce.

We'll start making a line at 6 AM on the 18th. Some of us are also going to serve as disguised ushers in the charity premiere that same night. I plan to be there until 9PM and then run back to the other theather for the line.

I'm planning on catching a midnight showing at the Valley View Theater in Roanoke. That Friday afternoon I'll probably take the boy. No way I'd take him to the midnight showing on a school night. If it were summer or Friday I'd consider it. I'd never take an infant to a Friday night opening night. Saturday or Sunday afternoons, my baby can cry all she wants. Those showings are full of kids and you should expect those kinds of distractions.

Will the PG-13 rating affect your decision on whether or not to bring the kids?

My wife and I went to the movies with our son when he was around that age once. It's just not worth the trouble. Sometimes you just gotta get out of the house, but there's not much your kid is going to get out of it at that age. My son is 6 and what the PG-13 rating means to me is that I should probably screen the movie before he sees it. He WILL see it. Not because of me, he's just into SW. He's the same age I was when ANH came out. There's a symmetry to this whole experience that I'm really enjoying. I distinctly remember showing my mother a newspaper with showtimes for ANH and BEGGING her to take me to it. I'll use my midnight screening as a chance to get a look at the more intense images and prepare him for them. He already knows much of what's going to happen because he's constantly asking me questions. Who dies, how they die, who gets toasted to a crisp, who gets their limbs chopped off, etc. He doesn't seemed phased by it one bit so I think he can handle it. But I'll explain the more graphic scenes to him and even how they were probably made.

Not sure when I'll be going just yet, but it will most definitely be to Edwards Cinema in Santa Maria, CA. My roommate and I are trying to get off for it, but we've still no definite answer. Though if we get really desperate, we'll just go to the midnight showing and suck it up at work the next day.

Hell yes!!!! I almost missed out on it though. I'd called the theater the day before and got the clueless, "Tickets will go on sale sometime in May." response. The next day we were all at the mall and I decided to take a chance and drive by the theater and ask for ticket info at the box office.

I will be going on 2-4 hours sleep that next day. The latest I could sleep in is about 6:30. Oh well, that's what afternoon naps are for.

That Wednesday will definitely be a day off so I can line up for good seats. Thursday will probably be a work day, despite that I'll be a zombie. Friday evening will be for catching up on sleep, then the setting up the weekend for a viewing or two.

Just have to wait for tickets to go on sale in my area.

Midnight showing here in the islands will be a big thing... Our 501st chapter will be out in our trooper suits promoting it. I believe it will be at the Consolidated Ward 16. Awesome thing about it other than in the flesh Stormtroopers? Is we get to sit and watch the movie no charge.

Then that weekend we help open it up at the Signature Theaters in Dole Cannery Square. Will be a hella busy time for us.

As for ROTS, I'm going to the midnight show, but I was initially planning on taking the next day off of work, but it looks like I may have to go in anyway - oh well, I can suck it up... And then Friday we're having a team outing to see it, so that'll be fun.

I'm just not excited enough to even consider opening week. I have even wonder if I'll even bother seeing it at all.

It's not a Star Wars Sucsk thing, it pretty much I cant honestly get enhused about what is just a movie anymore - any movie. So, while I can understand the passion for midnight screenings.... it just doesnt seem a priority I could justify.

Yeah. I have my doubts if I ever will. It's not somethign I could justify as a priority - I can justify some lesiure activites and even marginalyl justify motor racing as it's selling the ability to make racing parts - it's difficult to sell to myself a movie, any movie or DVD. I cant even really justify Internet time if it wasnt for the fact I have another screen with work open at the same time or I need a quick mental break.

Exactly and The where is nowhere and the when is probably never. However that response needs some form of responable justification, as I am I suppose a fan of sorts and just a NEVA SUCKAS!! can be read as a troll, even if it is actually a legitimate answer to the question asked to begin with. I feel a well justified answer has to be put to what is after all an unusual position for a Star Wars board.

Plus, JMK asked a good question (even if obvious) so he deserved a reply.

I'm still failing to grasp how a few quid and half as many hours at the "Talkies" is going to prevent you from reaching Doriiiftuuu Zen. It's a movie. They're not exactly asking for your foreskin and a vow of celibacy at the ticket booth.

I'd probably murder Jerry's Kids if some man in a suit told me I could only entertain one of my many recreational flights of fancy.

So I dont really think any movie is worth my time at the moment, why's that an issue? If I believe I can find more relaxation and fun doing somethign else, then why should I even consider a theatre, even if Ep III is a unique event?

Really Charlie, I dont think it matters if I believe I should not be wasting time on theatres. Silly point scoring or FYAD posting isnt going to prove any point and it's only serving to continue pollution in a discussion that should have had has my contributions the first two posts only anyway.

Because you contradicted yourself five posts previously in stating that you can't really justify any leisure activities that aren't in themselves a means to an end.

As for point scoring and FYAD posting, I have no idea where you're coming from. I'm actually making a point here.

Not that it matters. I'm not going to be a party to this passive/aggressive posting any more than I already have. G'night.

I understand what you mean, sometimes certain activities just don't seem important no matter how important or simple to enjoy they are to others. Going to a movie may have been a great release a few years ago, but now something that just doesn't seem justified to you. I'm like that way with the Simpsons. Loved the show, still do, but rarely watch it. It just doesn't fit in with my life or schedule. Still buy the DVD's and catch an occasional re-run, but new episodes on Sunday just don't seem like they're worth the effort.

But I do suggest you make some time for ROTS. From all the images I've seen here at Indy it's going to be a hell of ride. You may end up pleasantly surprised.

Got ticket for Colosseum thursday may 19 at 9.00 am local time, thats midnight + 3 hours EST in american clock, so I should see the film roughly the same time you guys do. Colosseum is the worlds largest THX certified theatre. The 978 seat theatre got a dome equal in size of that in St Peters church, a 70 mm projector with motion stabilisers and all kinds of technical wizardry for best possible experience. 22 x 9 meters silver screen, 20.000 watt 7 channel digital Dolby Surround EX system specifically designed by Dolby and THX for the Star Wars movies. If that wont do, nothing will :)

That's just about the size of the UltraScreens that Marcus Theatres here in the midwest US has at some of their cinemas. While it's not a digital projection system, I'm still fortunate to have one of these THX-certified monsters about 12 miles away, at which I see most every major blockbuster film, including the Prequels. The only difference is that the theatre I go to doesn't seat as many as the one Yog mentioned (510 seats compared to 978).

Well criticall they weren't bombs but istead mixed or disapointments. According to Rotten Tomatoes both films were fresh, TPM had 62% AOTC 61% so I wouldn't call them critically hated now sure they don't live up to the OT which I think is more the issue. I have my tickets, got them Friday but the only thing is it say Wed the 18th at 12:01 AM I asked the guy twice if that was right, and he says that is the way they have to print it. Anybody think I should call the theater and make sure about this? I sure don't want to get turned away because of some stupid theater clerk.

JMK
May 4th, 2005, 04:34:02 PM
Yeah they both checked in at barely fresh but most, if not all of the comments you read today about those 2 movies is that there's a sense of disappointment in the first 2. Just about every article or story I've read has mentioned something to the effect that 2 prequels so far have been less than overwhelming. My point is the loudest voices for TPM and AotC are the ones that didn't really care for them, or flat out disliked them.

Without digging too much deeper:
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_wars_episode_i_the_phantom_menace/

The fresh comments on the front page basically all relate to the special effects and the grandness of the movie. the negative comments are the ones that still resonate today: Too many effects, not enough substance. AotC suffers the same critiquing. Unfortunately for TPM and AotC that is the stuff that will define these movies moving forward. All the great movies of the past stand the test of time because of great acting, great screenplay, great directing...none of which TPM and AotC have. Even the effects will look dated one day, and the reviews that were once positive based on the WOW factor will turn negative because the effects no longer elicit the same response...and the acting will still be wooden and banal.

Anybody think I should call the theater and make sure about this? I sure don't want to get turned away because of some stupid theater clerk.

I'd call just to make sure, but that's just me cause I think I would be just a little more than po'ed if I got turned away. Besides what would be the actual harm in calling just to check in on it?

Looks like 12:01 am screening after all, in a THX certified theatre.

Bought tickets this afternoon for a Friday afternoon showing for my son and me. I'd love to take him Thursday afternoon but it's a school night and I'll be going on a few hours sleep anyway.

Glad to see you changed your mind Cat. I really think it's going to deliver the goods. You'll be glad you changed your mind.

My line up is going to be ... miserable.

It won't be too cold in the afternoon (about 62) but it's supposed to rain all day. No overhang. Holly is a sad girl.

Hopefully I don't celebrate Ep. III by getting pneumonia!

Don't be sad Holly! It's going to be 62° here tomorrow as well, with rain. Plus, I'll be in line all by my lonesome with french Star Wars geeks, now if I can't be sad about that, then there's no reason to ever be sad! Especially about Episode III! :rollin

It's supposed to be cold and rainy in my area tomorrow as well, although I'm not getting in line until after work and dinner.

Partly cloudy and 61. Not bad for a May night in SW Virginia.

Theatre's in a supermarket and huge foyer. So not only will I be warm lining up... I get to see it first!

I'm a bit hyped up now. Surprising given what a crappy week it;s been.

12:01 AM at Rave 10, Vestavia Hills.

Found out the theater I'm going to isn't digital after all. Fortunately though, there is a digital theater about five miles down the road from it, so I'll go see it digitally on Sunday :cool

:mneh to all of you yokels without digital screens. We're all supposed to be barefoot, illiterate outhouse users in Alabama, eh? :mneh

Ok, I can't see the midnight showing because I'm working, but a small group of us are going to be trying to see the 10PM or the 10:40 PM showing on Thursday. That is if we can get our tickets. I'd get them, but I'm sleeping, and the others are working.

There's already one guy in line at my theatre (so much for being first in line!) but he started this MORNING, and I'm starting TOMORROW morning, so he wins fair and square.

Hopefully I'll be third or fourth in line. ^_^;

HAHAHA, just got back.

Much better than either TPM or AOTC. Quite different too. Got myself on radio twice, once after a six way lightsabre duel in the theatre and once on an exit interview.

Indeed it was. Remember, this is coming from someone who really dislike the prequels. So it must have been pretty darn good.. :eek

Had an absolute blast, especially with the lightsabre fight in the theatre. Hope the pictures turned out, the duels, the costumes and everything made for a great night.

Actually, it was multiple duels. The lads I was with really had some fun 'killing' anyone dressed as a Jedi, attacking hapless theatre staff and generally running amok.
