April 2nd is when ROTS merchandise hits the shelves. Toys, books, video games, etc. Unlike the last 2 street dates, this one is on a Friday so I won't be showing up to work on 2 hours sleep. I'll probably be hanging out at WalMart at midnight with a bunch of other collectors and a buddy of mine. I know I'm picking up the novelization, I just don't know if I'll wait until the next morning or see if I can pick it up that night. As soon as I bring it home I'm tearing through it.
Here's some sites where you can see the goods.

Beware, spoilers abound. Minor ones, but spoilers nonetheless.

Personally, I will probably not spend a dollar until movie release in may. For theater ticket(s) that is.

I'll be dropping around $300. I wish I could hold off on things like the Trivial Pursuit DVD game. The damn thing will be 1/2 priced in a couple of months.

The SW franchise in terms of toys, comics and various merchandise is apparently still going strong. Does anyone have numbers or estimates on of how much money is made on star wars related toys and merchandise? We keep track of box office and DVD sales (and maybe games), but rarely these things.

I rarely bother with the toys or other merchandise unless it's something I'd buy without the Star Wars license attached.
IE, I'm not going to buy a crappy action figure just because it has "REVENGE OF THE SITH" plastered across the top. It's still a crappy action figure.

Actually the Star Wars action figures are the best made. Hasbro is the best toy company, IMO. I will buy a few figures, probably that DVD board game and the chess set for sure they are offering.

I'll be getting some figures and a few vehicles as well. Not as many as I did for TPM mind you, but probably about a dozen or so.

It all depends, considering I have other more expensive hobbies that take priority.

Naturally. Considering that my acquisition list isn't shrinking any time soon, it may be a while before I buy another action figure.

If you're a collector and you're into detail, McFarlane toys trump everyone. I think SW figures can be both collectible and have play value for kids. Besides, I'm not sure McFarlane toys are best compared with the 3 3/4" line of SW figures rather than the Unleashed line...

On the ROTS Toy subject, I'll buy some and probably more after I see the movie. As usual once you see how cool people are in the movie then you decide you want the figure.
As for McFarlane...eh, to me they aren't toys, they are statues. They are highily detailed how how much play value do you get out of them?
To me the top toys out there are the Marvel Legends line, those things are incredible, 30+ Points of articulation, big enough to get great detail and tons of recognizable characters.

You're all wrong.
The correct answer is Hunter Dan.

It's a mixed bag. Yeah, McFarlane figures look great. But if you try to do anything with them besides display them they're basically worthless. If you like great sculpts, and a larger size, then the Unleashed figures are a great way to go.
Overall, Hasbro has done a decent job with the line. Since 95 they've cranked out over 500 figures. You're hard pressed to find anyone who does a better job with the 3.75 scale. Yes, we've had Monkey Faced Leia, but we've also had a removable helmet Vader. I'm a completist, so I'll be right there with the other lemmings buying the entire line. I feel sorry for the cardback freaks. That's an obsession I'll never understand, but to each his own.

Hasbro defintely has Mattel beat. Compare the Star Wars line with the Harry Potter line Mattel has done. I know because I have bought stuff for my nephew, it isn't bad for kids but if you want to collect the stuff forget it.

Its definetly a great line and they manage to keep selling the same figures over and over.
I will still take the body type of the 3 3/4" Joes to the Star Wars. The Star Wars are getting better but the you can do so much with the Joe figures. Sadly the sculpting on the new stuff hasn't been as good, Star Wars is defiently up in that category and keeps getting better.

I want an action figure that can articulate more like a real person. I think it would be cool if there were action figures that had full range of motion--not just knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow joints, but wrist and ankle joints as well. And if the action figure's head could be tilted so that it can look up or down, or cant its head to the side, that would be nice. And if the action figure could twist its torso and lean over to the left or right, that might be cool too.

12" Jango Fett is for you, then.
It's easily my favorite toy I've ever bought.

The Joe O-ring, oh how I wish Hasbro would give SW figs the same treatment. Not that I play with them.... IT'S FOR THE BOY'S SAKE I TELL YA! I SWEAR!!!! :crack

As an aside, I just noticed they are making old school GI-Joes again! :D
I bought a five dollar value pack today. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes :cool

I like the way they do the SW Figures, they have their own style but a combo of Joe & SW would be cool.
Sadly the old School Joes have been put on hold by Hasbro, the current wave being released will be the last for a while. They are going to be replaced with a 8" version called Sigma Six, same characters but different type of figure.

I was never in to G.I. Joe when I was a kid, but it's nice to see the figures back. My son is on a Transformers binge right now. They're definitely one of the best values you can get in toys right now. You fool around with some of those and you realize just how much Hasbro has been overcharging for SW figures.
Am I the only one that bought that 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime awhile back? It's awesome and when I found it on clearance at Target for $17 I couldn't resist.

Not bad EB!
I hit the Local Wal-Mart on Saturday afternoon and they still had all the figures, most I didn't get as I already had them(i.e Vader, Anakin, Obi-Wan) or just didn't like the figure(Kai Adi Mundi).
Ended up with 4 Clone Troopers, Chewbacca, Wookie Warrior, Sidious, Secura Jedi lady, 2 red Imperial Guards, deluxe Anakin with armor, and a Grevious as well as the BARC Bike. No Jedi Star Fighters though, all they had was the figures and Lego's.

Glad to hear you found some Red Guards. They're short packed, and people are going crazy over them. This is the best version made of the figure so far. It's got some nice Crimson Empire style sculpting under the robe as well. I'll probably end up getting close to a dozen before the summer is over. Need to get that Shuttle display in order....

You guys are having trouble with the red guard? I haven't seen ONE blue guard whereas I've seen jiliions of red guards.
Weird.
