Unlike his son Kieran, Artimus Devaneaux had an unbridled potential for genocide and cruelty on a mass scale. Kieran is more in tune with the teachings of the Jedi, despite his being an officer of the New Republic Navy. Twenty-five years earlier, Artimus had been the first generation of his family in nearly four decades to make an attempt at becoming a Jedi. His family had had a long tradition of training Jedi, having accepted members of the family since the first Kieran Devaneaux shortly after the Mandalorian Wars. But someone with Artimus' ambition and potential for cruelty should never have been accepted for Jedi training. He was expelled from the Order two years later. After returning home, his son Kieran was born.
When Kieran was a year old, Artimus conquered the Devaneaux family stronghold of Reydovan Prime and held it with an iron fist for fifteen years. He tried to train his son to be as cruel and unfeeling as he was, but it was Kieran's mother who taught him the ways of good and evil. Artimus found out, and in a rage imprisoned Kieran and his mother. When Kieran was fifteen, his mother was publicly executed. Kieran himself would have followed, but he was freed by a band of freedom fighters seeking to end Artimus' evil rule. A year later, Kieran and his allies struck. Father battled son in the raging battlefield of his palace on Reydovan Prime, and they ended up blinding one another in the same eye. By the time the battle was over, Kieran was a comatose, wounded wreck, and Artimus had disappeared.
Artimus travelled to the tomb of the Jedi Master his son was named for. Breaking into the ancient crypt, he stole the twin-bladed lightsaber, the silver-green blade that had assisted the Jedi Master in resurrecting the Jedi Order in the past and destroying the Sith Lords who had divided the Republic. Artimus thought it would be a great irony if this great Jedi weapon was used to destroy the Jedi Order. He waited seven years, tracking his son's whereabouts - and using his clone-son, Demon-Kieran, the son he had wished he had (which he had created as a "contingency plan" in case Kieran failed him), to hunt him. Kieran then joined the Jedi Order, and Artimus realized that in order to truly oppose his son, he needed training. Despite his higher experience, Kieran was a better fighter than Artimus, and the scar across his face was proof of his underestimating the martial prowess his son possessed.
Artimus has had several encounters with his son, the latest being when Kieran was on his way to the Outer Rim to rediscover his past. (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37610) Although the damage to Kieran's vessel was enough to force him to return to Coruscant, the damage to Artimus and Demon-Kieran's vessels was enough to cause Demon-Kieran to wait to be picked up by the Imperial forces. Artimus had to scrap the old cargo freighter that had been damaged beyond repair and buy a YV-666, just like the one he gave Demon-Kieran. Modifying it extensively to fit his needs, Artimus travelled to the city of Coronet on Corellia onboard the Hand of Artimus, as he called it, to apply for Sith training.
Artimus returned to his birthworld of Coruscant with a group of Sith, including Zereth Lancer and Je'gan Olra'en, to help test a potential Sith prospect released from the hospital (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37615). But Artimus also had his own agenda to advance: revenge. Along with fellow Sith Apprentice Jorshal Vuntana and assisted by forces of the Imperial Sovereignty - sent by his puppet Demon-Kieran - Artimus boarded and hijacked the Defender Star Destroyer Skyrider (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37765) and killed most of her crew in the process. With the Skyrider under his command, Artimus returned to Corellia, where he requested that Jegan Olra'en, the Sith Knight he had served with on Coruscant, to be his master.
