She looked down at the scrap of paper in her hands, carefully - not to mention just a tad slowly - reading the numbers scrawled across the crinkled parchment.

"Sevennn... twoo... s-six... Joll-Jollsan Skyway Avve-Aven-Avenoo? Coco Disstrict..."

A brunette topped head peered up at the number spraypainted in block print across the garage door that was before her. The numbers matched thank goodness, and the little girl let out a sigh. Finally. It'd taken her the better part of an hour to find the place, and so when she finally found it, confirming first that it was indeed the right place, she let a crafty smile play across her thin lips. Crumpling up the paper that held the address, she made sure the two blocks of wood - slung around her neck by a thin cord - were still there.

Her name was Joe. No last name, just Joe. And she was finally breaking into the "Big League". But she wasn't going to break into it by herself - heavens no. She was going to need help, and she knew just the person who would be by her side no matter what the she did or got herself into.

Todd.

Todd had always been with her, and the two were practically inseperable. And this new adventure was their ticket into striking it big. Of course, she had to actually tell him first. But hopefully when he heard what the job was, and how much it was going to pay, he would be in faster than an anooba after a jakrab.

Breathing in deep, Joe puffed out her chest, looked to either side, and ducked into the side door next to the main garage. Inside the darkened garage interior, she fumbled for a lightswitch, and after a few moments, slender fingers found the activator switch. Flipping it up, Joe watched as her surrounding were suddenly illuminated in bright, flourescent light. And the sight that greeted her eyes nearly took her breath away. The little Coruscant orphan only stood with her mouth agape.

What sat before her was the most beautiful speeder she'd ever seen - sleek, black, and obviously full of muscle... she knew Todd would have been salivating right now if he could see it... just the sight of the gold, stylized Corellian phoenix outline painted on the hood would have been more than enough.

And in less than two seconds she had sidled up beside it, running small hands along its' side. The cool metal felt good beneath her palm, and Joe reached out, tugging on the handle and smoothly opening the driver-side door. Hopping in, she quickly took the two wooden blocks from around her neck and fastened them to her feet. What her employers didn't know was that she wasn't in fact any older than 12 - but that didn't curb her determination. She and Todd were going to strike it rich with this job, and then after that, they could leave Coruscant and never have to worry about the Watch and the orphan homes ever again.

With a flick of the ignition switch, she felt the engine rumble to life. Both hands on the steering wheel and both feet (thanks to the wooden blocks) hovering over the pedals, she was ready. A quick search through the glove compartment yielded a small remote, and taking a wild guess, Joe pointd it at the closed garage door. Depressing the button, she watched in excitement as the door suddenly sprang to life, rising up into its' housing and exposing the empty alley outside.

It was now or never, and Joe pulled a pair of small, metal-framed sunglasses from their place on her shirt's neckline, donning them in a flourishing motion. She was ready. And Todd was going to get the surprise of his life.

Slowly pushing down on the gas pedal, Joe eased the powerful machine forward - out of the garage - into the alleyway - and towards the main road.

And less than ten seconds later, she was flying through Coruscant City traffic, heading for Todd's hideaway.

"You take the sprinkles, Rook. I'm not quite the guy for that operation."

Talbert leaned back in the seat of his squad speeder, brushing away the traces of a doughnut that had remained in his thick moustache. In the seat across from him, his understudy was busy with his own.

"So why sprinkles?"

"Why not?"

Talbert shook his head "Just isn't natural."

The Rook pondered this while chewing. "Well its not like anything else here is."

Talbert shrugged "Yeah, but at least I can suspend disbelief. Glaze, frosting, these things I can understand. Sprinkles are small, and they look like plastic. You ever stopped to taste a sprinkle?"

Rook shook her head. "No."

He nodded knowingly. "That's what I thought. Nobody has. Everyone who has...died."

Rook laughed. "What?"

"Oh maybe we don't know now." Talbert said, "But five will get you ten that we'll hear about it in a few years...how somebody has a one sprinkle doughnut a week habit and now they get butt cancer. Me? I'm not taking the chance, babe. I'm a survivor."

"Yeah..." Rook rolled her eyes as she polished off the pastry. "You're a rebel"

Crouched in an alleyway, behind a dumpster that the garbage scows had forgotten about, Todd was waiting. He'd picked the wrong pocket and almost gotten caught, although being small made it easier to slip between the heavy foot traffic in the Chiba Sector. Chiba wasn't like Coco, or Imperial Center, it was poor and rough, and so people walked a lot because not everyone here could afford a speeder.

But, he still had the wallet, and the grumpy man he'd taken it off of didn't have much to be mad about. It wasn't like it was full of credits of nothing. Pickin' in Coco was much more fulfilling.

Todd's stomach growled. Joe was supposed to meet him here for lunch, and he was waiting as patiently as he could. Didn't want anyone to bother him, so he always hid himself if he was going to be waiting long. Never know if an old mark would recognize ya, coolin' your heels in an alley.

The twelve year old street rat reached up and scratched behind one ear, wondering if he had nits again. Every so often he'd collar Joe and wrangle her to the nearest Hope and Home center and they'd get the works - bath, hot meal, flea dip - and they'd sneak out through the kitchen and grab extra deserts before the preachin' started. Todd didn't hold with those weird, Ithorian religious rites anyway.

Joe, please don't be late. Todd didn't have a watch today, but he could tell the time nearly to the minute by the sun and his stomach.

Joe steered the speeder smoothly through the skytraffic, crossing over into Chiba District and gunning the powerful engine while dipping the steering yoke down, effectively sending the sleek craft low to the underlevel traffic. She kept her eyes peeled for Todd's favorite alley, and soon enough she'd picked it out - three blocks ahead. Hopefully his mid-morning catch hadn't landed him in the clutches of some angry "client", or at the worst, sent him to juvy. Again. Both had been there more times than they'd like to remember, and each time they'd sworn to eachother to never get caught and sent back.

As the mouth to the alley rapidly approached, Joe stomped on the brake pedals and pulled hard on the steering column, sending the speeder into a controlled slide/turn. The extended antannae which sat atop the roof, connecting to the car's comm system, swayed crazily as she whipped the speeder into the alley.

Skidding to a stop, Joe let the mechanical beast idle - the deep rumbling of the engine causing the speeder to tremble even - and was instantly standing on the driver's seat, her head poking out from the open-ended T-top.

"Todd! C'mon!! We're gonna be late if'n you dun hurry it up!"

Todd had crouched back further behind the dumpster at the sound of an engine ripping through his alley. But at the sound of Joe's voice over the idling beast he stood to his feet, looking out over the top of the dumpster. His eyes popped.

"Joe?!" Todd scrambled out from his hiding place and was climbing through the open T-top before his stomach could growl again. She let him take the drivers seat, and he almost reverently placed his hands on the steering yoke. "How... why... heck I don't care. Can I -?"
