This info came from www.pvponline.com - its a comic strip about the staff of a gaming magazine, I quite enjoy it and read it daily and have read through the archives at least once.
Anywho, the guy that runs it is a big comic fan, and posted this with Today's cartoon.
Look! up in the sky...

As I type this, John Williams' Superman theme is playing over itunes. I'm celebrating because AIN'T IT COOL NEWS just posted a story about the new Bryan Singer helmed Superman movie. The news post contains three gems that tell me the new Superman movie is going to be worth my time:
1) Bryan Singer pitched his idea for the movie to original Superman director Richard Donner before pitching it to Warners. He got approval from the man who's film Superman vision he respected most before getting approval from the studio.
2) Bryan has casted an unknown to play Superman. They didn't go with some big name actor "just because." And the actor, Brandon Routh, is from Des Moines, Iowa. The guy's FROM Smallville.
3) When asked if he would be using the John Williams' Superman theme in the new movie, Singer replyed clearly and boldy "Yes! Definitely Yes."
************************************************
Assuming its true all 3 are great news!!!!!! Especially #3, to me Superman needs that theme song!

The first two are nice to hear, especially that it'll be an unknown playing Superman/Clark Kent. The third... ehh... I'm of the opinion that the score should be new, and avoid a lot of ties to Donner's films. Don't get me wrong, I love the theme that Williams penned for the Donner films... it's one of the most recognizible themes in movie history. But that's also part of the problem. The more aspects of the project that are tied to the Donner film, the greater tendency there will be for people to be critical of things that Singer decides to do differently from Donner, simply for the reason that it "isn't like the original."
I'd kind of like to see Singer approach Superman from a completely different angle... maybe he will indeed do this. Using William's Superman theme just doesn't fit with that ideal, though, and makes me more hesitant about the project.

I believe the part about the actor is correct, as it first appeared on IMDB.com
Without further delay, here is the next Superman:

I think he looks right for the roll too. A little too "OC" for my liking in that shot, but he will look right when suited up.

Cool I prefer an unknown. Cast the stars for Luthor and other characters. I still say Luthor should be Kevin Spacey he would do an incredible job. Not sure who should play Lois.

Superman looks good! They're obviously going for the young look.
As for too skinny....who knows how old the picture is, and as we've seen with Tobey I'm sure he'll be bulking up.
As for the Score, to me it needs that score to feel like Superman, I know it has the ties to the older movies but that song is Superman, to me it won't be right without it.
Even if they only use it for Trailers and opening credits and a totally new score for the actual movie then I'll be happy.

Cinescape says Lois is one of:
Mischa Barton (THE O.C.)
Charisma Carpenter (ANGEL)
Mia Kirshner (THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS)
Evangeline Lilly (LOST)
Natalie Portman (STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES)
Keri Russell (FELICITY)

Out of all of those choices, I hope it's Evangeline Lilly.

And according to rumors it looks like that Singer is trying to get Spacey to play Luthor. That woudl be awesome. Spacey would nail that role.

This really is looking up. Just goes to show what happens when a director of Singer's calabre and charisma takes on a project. They have to keep the original Superman theme, as much as it will be a tie to the Donner films there really is no other way of saying this than it is Superman's theme. The original trilogy of Star Wars were directed by different men, they kept the fanfare because it is definitive and the same goes for Superman.
Again, for James Bond, look at the variation that franchise has under it's belt yet the Bond theme remains.

We now have Lois Lane and Lex Luthor
http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2420
Keven Spacey is going to be Luthor. First that is awesome news he will do a wonderful job with the role. He is great playing villains. Now Kate Bosworth she does have the look (I don't think she is a natural blonde so that won't be problem). She is also a good actress so she fits. Now who else is going to be in the film? There have been rumblings for a while about Jude Law playing a villain. Rumor had it either the Tereance Stamp character from Superman 2 which wouldn't really make any sense. Or Metallo which would be a cool character as Luthor could use him to try to destroy Superman.

If I remember, Spacey passed on playing the Green Goblin. I guess he didn't want to miss out on another comic book hit. I think he's a perfect choice. I just hope Luthor is more villian than comic relief this time around. I loved Gene Hackman's portrayal in I & II, I just would rather have Luthor be as evil as can be.
Jedi Master Carr

I can't see Spacey playing a funny villain. All of his villanious roles have more been very evil. Plus with Singer involved I don't see that happening anyway.

Jan 10th, 2005, 07:57:34 PM
Margot Kidder was an awesome choice for Lois Lane. The fact that she wasn't some stunning bombshell made her far more appealing and realistic as the character. She was just nice and normal, and if I remember correctly from the DVD commentaries, that was one of the reasons why she was cast for the part.
Personally, I don't like the look of the new Lois Lane; she looks like she belongs in Smallville. She certainly doesn't look like the fiesty, ruthless journalist she should be. I want Teri Hatcher. :(

Jan 10th, 2005, 09:34:14 PM
I just saw Terri Hatcher on Desperate Housewives last night. Yes, they STILL look SPECTACULAR! :crack
Margot Kidder wasn't a bad choice for Superman. The problem was that she wasn't young enough for a series of movies. I remember watching Superman when it came out and I thought she was great. But by the time we got to Superman IV, the Quest for a Decent Movie, she was clearly too old for the role.
Jedi Master Carr
Jan 10th, 2005, 11:28:54 PM
She was older than Christopher Reeve which was the problem. That is why they went for a younger actress this time around it works better. Also Bosworth is a good actress she just hasn't that opportunity to prove herself yet.

Here's something interesting for my fellow Superman obsessives:
BlueTights.net (http://www.bluetights.net) is to be host to bi and/or tri-weekly film blogs from Bryan Singer with updates on the movie and how things are coming along. His first blog is up and is basically a very brief hello but we do catch a glimpse of some storyboards and whatnot with the promise of much more to come. I'll be checking this site religiously from now on until next year. The wait for this and X-Men 3 is going to kill me!
And by the way, the director of X-Men 3 has finally been revealed as Matthew Vaughn. The director of Layer Cake: I found his work on this film to be very impressive, even if I didn't particularly enjoy the film itself. Add to this the fact that Zak Penn, writer of X-Men 2, has had his work on the script/screenplay accepted and I think you'll agree, things are looking up for the production after the huge loss of Bryan Singer from the team.
Good news for comic and super hero fans all around. :D

I know I'd rather see Bryan Singer at the helm of X-Men 3 but since he's doing Superman, and thank God!, it's not like they got someone like Paul Anderson to shame the franchise. I have faith that X-Men 3 will rock. And after watching these first two video blogs from Bryan Singer, I know Superman is going to be awesome. :D

#1 - The fact that they are rushing it to beat Superman.
#2 - The fact that they decide to give the thrid in the series of a very popular franchise to a guy who has ONE directing credit.
#3 - The fact that they already have a stupidly large cast, and are said to be adding three more characters.
#4 - The fact that they are doing a Dark Phoenix Saga story yet are apparently STILL GIVING CYCLOPS A SMALL ROLE.
Give Zak Penn all the credit you want, but he also did Elektra and Inspector Gadget. There was a writing team on X2, and some of them left with Singer.

Stop it, you're scaring me. :(
I have to say, I can't disagree with you on any of those points. However, on the point about Cyclops, I've noticed James Marsden isn't even officially signed up for X-Men 3 yet, which worries me since he's also playing a role in Singer's Superman. the whole point about Cyclops has to be hearsay, there's no way to prove he will have a small role until we see the film. How could they justify it in the Dark Phoenix saga?
I'm also really pleased with two of the new additions, the third, a lesser known character, I'm not too hyped about since apparently they've fudged about a few minor details already with her. ;)
In spite of all this, I still have hope: this has to be the best of the three!

Mar 21st, 2005, 12:07:03 AM
Well the director doesn't worry me. The guy has been producing movies for years so he has experience. The script matters most. Also rumor has it Gambit is going to have a small part. Who knows what kind of role Angel and Beast will play. Also they aren't rushing it, I bet they will end up pushing the release date back to Christmas 2006.

What seems to have happened is that Famke Janssen and the guy playin Iceman were in talks to join Superman, and then the X-Men makers set their filming times at the same time. This being after Marsden had signed for Superman.
In the future we'll get Punisher set in New York, Whedon doing Wonder Woman, Goyer/Reynolds on Flash, Iron Man and Luke Cage. I look forward to those far more than X-3 and Superman.

I adore Superman and Superman II. Suprise suprise! You should check them out again soon, Fett, I think you'll be suprised by how charming they are and how honest to the mythology of Superman they are: there are many moments during those films when I'm sat with this huge beaming smile on my face, everytime it gets me like a big kid.
Also, I noticed the thing with his upper lip, don't know exactly what it is however, I've noticed it's not their in shots taken while filming so it must be some sort of make-up thing. God knows what these poncy actors get up to in their trailers these days.

I like the costume. The guy definitely has the build for the suit. There probably isn't a more difficult costume to pull off on screen than Superman. Every modern comic book movie has had their heroes slicked up and updated. But that just wouldn't work for Supes. I don't want to see Superman in black leather or a muscled suit. It's fine for Batman, but not Superman. You can't change his costume the way Singer did with Wolverine and the X-Men. I think the darker colors will work just fine once the character is in action. People won't even think twice about them.
jjwr
Apr 25th, 2005, 07:01:35 AM
He definetly has the build, he does look very young though, gonna have to see him in action to see how it looks.
Like the others the only thing I don't like about the costume is the muted reds but a previously stated I'll wait to see it in action.

That JLA pic is horrible. Although you can tell the real heroes from the fake ones in there :p Bale's Batman looks 100 times better than those other clowns. What is funny is WB might be considering doing a JLA movie once the other DC films (Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Latern) get done.
JMK
Apr 25th, 2005, 09:40:38 AM
I would love to see a JLA movie, but having WB in charge scares me a bit. The people they choose for Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern would all have to be pretty young now if they were to ever make that movie. Superman is pretty much the oldest, and the leader, so if Routh sticks with the role of the Man of Steel for years to come, he should be the benchmark by which the others are cast.
Jedi Master Carr
Apr 25th, 2005, 09:57:22 AM
You forgot Batman I bet he is the oldest which would work since Bale is older than Roush. I think they will go with young stars who haven't made it yet that way if they do JLA the budget won't be that bad.
JMK
Apr 25th, 2005, 10:13:29 AM
You may very well be right, Batman and Superman are definetly close in age. I think I remember an episode of Justice League where some bad guy was profiling the members of the league and it had Batman pegged somewhere in his early 40's. I don't remember what it said about Superman, but it's probably around there somewhere.
As an aside, I don't think Batman considers himself a member of the team so I'm not sure if he'd be in a JLA movie. It works in a cartoon because you have have a cartoon do anything you want, but I think in live action with a bunch of guys like Superman, GL and Wonder Woman, an ordinary guy like Batman may not add much to the movie.
Jedi Master Carr
