The man was one of the greatest chess players ever and now we here he has become an anti-semite, which is funny because he is in fact Jewish he must hate himself I guess, an ant-american, he praised the 9-11 attackers. He must be mentally ill or something he has just changed, it is sad in a way that this great chess player fallen like this.

His anti-semetic and anti-American comments are disgusting, but I don't think his playing in Yogoslavia warrants a severe punishment. Honestly, this guys life story doesn't exactly scream, "I'm happy and well balanced!" Leave him to his own self imposed misery.

Yeah that is my opinion let him go to some other country (he had been living in Hungary) and live there. I think he is mentally imbalance his whole attitudes towards the jews makes me think that (considering he is jewish).

Anyone that can stare at a checkered board for 8 hours at a time can't be all there.

Well he was this nutty, he didn't say anti-semetic remarks back in the 60's. Maybe he has gotten worse, I think he could suffer from some sort of delusional disorder but that is pure speculation. Also about Chess, it is a very hard game, you have to be smart to be really good at it, but at the same time just because Fischer is nuts doesn't mean all chess players are.

If you have any doubt about that, you should check out his personal website. I have to warn you, if youre easily offended, I strongly encourage you to dont visit the page, because there is a lot of racism and anti american material there. But if you dont take it too serious, you will laugh at some of the unbelievable and outragous stuff. Among the many gems include his radio interviews, the incredible letter to the Budapest police department and his quarrel with a storage company in Pasadena.

Recommended read is this article; , a synopsis of Fischers remarkable life, a sad but amazing story. You might also want to check out the unbelievable story (http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2002/12/chun.htm>Bobby) how he gets detained by the police in Pasadena ("I was tortured in the Pasadena jailhouse!").

In the end though, I cant help feeling sorry for the guy. While I dont like his attitude and political opinions, he was a true genius at chess with his extreme strong and agressive play. At the age of 13, he did what many concider the most brilliant chess game ever. He became grand master at the age of 15. During the peak years 1970 to 1972, he was likely the strongest human player in history. Since he was also a western player, he brought a lot of interest to the game with TV coverage etc. All he ever wanted to do was play chess. Shame the passion turned into insanity.
