I am now available to talk to anyone here for free.

www.skype.com

It's free, better sound quality than a phone (I talked with a friend in Germany, and it was like he was sitting on the other side of my desk it was that clear), and you can talk to ANYONE in the world, regardless of where they are - and what net connection they have. 56k apparently works just as well as DSL; or so I've been told. It supports up to 5 people on at the same time, too

So no more using up minutes on s'Il's phonecard if she can help it :)

Only one drawback I can think of is that if you're DLing something at the same time as talking to someone, it gets choppy and breaks up a little.

I've used it before.. I don't remember my handle though.

I spoke to a french guy who could only half speak english.. and to a guy who lives a state away.. both were very clear :)

I talked to the french guy for a while, and eventually we had to re-start the convo, since we couldn't hear each other. But other than that, it seemed to work just fine. I feel much safer using it to talk to internet people from other forums. I don't always trust them to have my phone number(oddly enough I trust you guys :mneh).. but sometimes I'm up for chat when everyone else is asleep.

Between this and the new noise cancellation feature I discovered on my integrated soundcard, I can hold crystal clear convos with my $5 mic.

Family comp has no microphone :(

I shall remember this for the day I get my computer hooked up again.

So when she said "somehow its vanished", she meant "I deleted it and then scrubbed myself clean"? :p ;)

I'm not sure whether to say 'I GOTZ OWNED" or explain that, no, we did not use it to have kinky cyberphone-sex. :)

I want to have kinky skypephone-sex :(

However, I'm not really on skype too much. It's a hassel to plug my mic in all the time. And I'm too paranoid to leave it :)

On a similar note, I've also been using a program called Eyeball Chat for a while now. It's a chat program with a pretty good webcam client. It lets you customize video resolution and quality for optimum framerate. I've managed to get smoother video playback with EC than any other similar programs I've used, including Yahoo! messenger.

Link: http://www.eyeball.com/products/eyeballchat.html

It supports voice chat, as well as letting you sign onto AIM, MSN and Y!. The only drawback I'm aware of is that you can only have a webcam session with 1 person at a time (I think).

IM me if you get it and I'll be glad to provide my s/n.

It says "< name > was added to your contacts, even though the Skype Name was not found

The Skype Name does not exist or this person has not been online for a long time"

wruh? It says this every time I add someone.
